I see a need for a disagree button to be placed on posts so the community can ratio post that seem to be absurd.
please consider this.

Please search for the last couple of threads on this. It's just a very bad idea as it leads to trolling.

Because people live to click the disagree button when they dislike certain posters/posted ideas. It happens - and I've been on various forums where it's so common and so egregious the forum owners removed the option to disagree by clicking a button.

Here, you can surely disagree, but you need to make a post at least stating you disagree, and in general, it's better to state why, so there's a real discussion, in a forum FOR discussion.

The whole point is to be able to disagree without having to give a reason. People can just disagree.

Reaction buttons (positive or negative) do not add anything to the conversation. This is a discussion forum. Discuss your thoughts.

That's exactly what happened (and I think here too, why there isn't one now) - people used it to do as is done on reddit with "thumbs down" to sink posts. It's a form of trolling when pointed at particular posters or posts.

That is my whole point exactly, there is already an agree and awesome why not a disagree? Give the community itself the ability to sink the post.

The community doesn't need the ability to sink opinions just because they disagree.

    Edit
Disagree buttons also defeats the purpose of discussion in the first place. If you agree with someone, then the point has already been made. There's no need for repetition. If you disagree, then the point has not been made and should be added to the discussion. Otherwise, you're not contributing anything of value.

You should be explaining yourself if you disagree and want to contribute to discussion, so that why you disagree is known.

Completely unnecessary. If you disagree but don't want to say why, then just post "I disagree".

Because time and again, from the beginning of time (well the internet) humans have proven themselves incapable of being able to use anything remotely resembling a like/dislike reaction synergy in the manner in which it is/was intended. As individuals, humans understand the concept quite well. Add more than 3 individuals into the mix though, and it all comes crashing down into a pile of putrid rubble.

    Disagree.

If a change were going to be made, however, I'd rather get rid of all the reaction buttons. This isn't Tinder; reaction buttons add nothing to the discussion, and actual words and thoughts are a far more effective means of arguing for a good idea or against a bad one. Remember that the ultimate point of discussing anything on here is for ZoS to look at what's being said and use that in its future decision-making about the game. Imo, focusing on some meaningless "ratio" doesn't give them anything of value to work with.

How is clicking a disagree button trolling?

    The easiest example.

"I love how ESO treats gay characters as an unremarkable and normal feature of the world."

    12 disagrees.

This has been discussed in depth on a very recent thread.

    I disagree.

There is no need for a disagree button.
I have an ethereal crown of three spirit crows:
    - On top is Grandfather spouting words of wisdom.
    - On the left is Empathy who is rather naive.
    - On the right is Ego who is rather greedy.
The incessant cackling is quite amusing.

I agree. Consider, too, the fact that some people use the “insightful” button as a disagree button, while others use it as intended. It’s ultimately meaningless, and therefore serves no real purpose here.

The internet in general has become a dumbed down echo chamber in recent years. Discussion forums are one of the last remaining places online where you are repeatedly exposed to opinions you may either agree or disagree with. Making it possible to “ratio” posts that you personally consider “absurd” defeats the entire purpose of a discussion forum.

That's a myth perpetuated by someone who couldn't come to terms with players with an opposing view getting Insightful reactions to their comments. Either they couldn't comprehend why they were tagged insightful, or just resented it, who knows? But the Insightful tag most assuredly is not a disagree button, as it awards the poster forum/karma points.

I don't know about the points award, but I use "Insightful" when a post is just exactly that: an insight into the way someone regards a concept.

The better option is to post exactly WHY one disagrees. That's what leads to open discussions.

I’m not saying it’s a disagree button — just that some people have admitted they use it as a disagree button. It’s not a myth if people are claiming they actually do it.

True.. but I don't care for either.. some may say "Oh you don't want the dislike option because you can't handle it"... ok... you can argue the same for ppl who just dislike but don't reply why they disagree.. "you're hiding behind the dislike button because you can't handle what they will say about your reply".. imo.. the less pointless means to start arguments and deviate from what the topic was about.. the better..
