Clarification on Which to Buy & What You Get With It

Say someone bought the base game when it went on sale recently. I'm not even sure what all that includes anymore but I don't think it does have the later expansions but only what the game originally started with. Anyway, that's what they bought. So if they wanted to take advantage of the current sale and get Gold Road do they buy the one under Digital Upgrade or the one under Digital Games? Does that give them all the expansions up to Gold Road so they have access and can make a Warden or Necromancer or Arcanist?

Clicking each option literally tells you what's inside.

[snip] one is a collection of all chapters and gold road and one is an upgrade to gold road.

Ok the reason I'm asking is because the upgrade doesn't state it includes all the previous chapters but the way the descriptions are written makes it seem like it does. [snip]

They have said that when you buy the latest chapter it comes with the others rolled in. So since this person has the base game already that means they should only need to buy the upgrade. The other one has the base game included, which they already have so they should only need the upgrade. The other one is clearly designed for new players who don't even have the base game since it includes it. Hence, why I was asking.

So apparently they need the other one even though they have the base game already. I assume.

No. The base-game (~$6 on sale) is the parts of the game which released in 2014, plus Craglorn. The Imperial City DLC became an automatic unlock around 2019 and Morrowind became an automatic unlock in 2022-ish. I think the Warden class is now included with that, but it seems to depend on when you bought the base-game.

Gold Road is the current chapter expansion and comes in two basic flavors: Upgrade and Collection. The Upgrade is just the Gold Road chapter (no others) and the Collection is Gold Road and the other chapters from Morrowind through Necrom, including any classes added by those chapters.

Both Upgrades and Collections come in two flavors: standard and Deluxe. The standard version doesn't contain anything other than the expansion(s) while the Deluxe version contains various cosmetic goodies, usually a non-combat pet, a mount, an outfit and that kind of thing. The Deluxe Collection includes the Deluxe/CE items from the included chapters, but does not contain any pre-order bonuses from those chapters. The Deluxe Upgrade is only the items that go with Gold Road.

Thank you DoofusMax. That is exactly what I needed to know. Based on what's been said in the past it was unclear since they already had the base game.

You're welcome. One bit I forgot was that you need the base-game for the Upgrade (either flavor), but it's included in the Collection (either flavor). There are no discounts for content you've already purchased, so the base-game alone is mostly for "try it, you'll like it" purposes (yes, I'm old enough to remember that Alka-Seltzer commercial) or for pairing up with an ESO Plus subscription. Otherwise I'll usually recommend a Collection (with or without ESO Plus, but preferably on-sale) for players who are mostly interested in story content.

That was also a "Life" cereal commercial.

Does the Collection include that character slot that came with last year's chapter before they split it up?
