What happened to Craglorn?

I recently came back to the game after a long break and Craglorn used to be full of people forming groups for trials both normal and veteran. Now its suddenly a ghost town? I did find the new group finder tool but it seems like people don't use it that much. So basically, am I missing something? Did everyone move to another zone?

People use the tool. It's probably just more efficient at highlighting how small the community really is. That said, bear in mind that you only ever see a fraction of what's available at a time. You only see your chosen section (trial, dungeon, etc.) only your mode (vet, normal) and only your role by default. You can relaax the role restriction via the detailed search in the tool.
PC EU: Magblade (PvP main), DK (PvE Tank), Sorc (PvP and PvE), Magden (PvE Healer), Magplar (PvP and PvE DD), Arcanist (PvE DD)
PC NA: Magblade (PvP and PvE every role)

Probably depends on where/when you play.

Here in Western Europe it's Sunday Noon and indeed there's almost nothing in Group Finder.

But yesterday at 8PM there were like 10+ vet trials PUGs open in GF for DDs and 7-8 for healers.

Trial finder is part of that, second one is recent years had major leaving moments for a lot of end game players making scene run dry, remaining people just gathered in discords yet again and interactions are going only there. So more casual part of crag left with the finder and most people are still afraid of making their own groups as always.

Craglorn was dead long before the Group Finder was put in the game.

Ghost town where? It's packed daily in PC/NA.

Depends of time of day of course, as always, you won't see much people at midday, but there is still usually a lot of people there and a lot more during pick hours forming and joining groups.

And in addition: there's still an ongoing pvp event, many players are trying to enjoy the last 2 days.

When using the group finder, it pays to be patient. Refresh every 2-5 mins while you do other things to see what may pop up.

It's possible for pug trials with known leaders to fill quickly if they already have at least one tank and healer.

A lot of guilds and discord communities use the group finder for fills throughout the night, but they tend to fill quickly.

It's not just the gf that has replaced crag, but also discord communities. Crag is a last resort. Using the gf regularly has opened the door to a lot of pve trial communities that don't necessarily advertise.

Also I think in general trial activity is currently in a bit of a summer lull, but things will pick up a bit during fall and winter.
