Mass Reporting a Player

Mass reporting of a player, encouraged by zone chat or a specific guild, may be being abused. I know players now have the idea if they mass report, they can get a player banned. I think this should be evaluated by ZOS.

Thanks.

Reporting isn't as simple as simply clicking a report button.

You have to have screenshots/video of the offense you're reporting. Otherwise it just goes into the round filing cabinet sitting on the floor next to the desk.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with mass reporting a player. If the player is in violation of the ToS or whatever else they SHOULD be mass reported. Asking to go against this will bring nothing but suspicion upon the one doing the asking because if there was a violation shouldn't it be reported?

Now mass FALSE reporting, that's another issue, but that doesn't seem to be the issue at hand here.

I think it's good advice to tell other players to not engage in an argument with someone that is being toxic and offensive in zone chat, but to just report them. That puts the offensive player on ignore and keeps the reporter from getting into trouble themselves.

I have very mixed views. "Mass reporting of players" may occasionally be justified, although it should always be left to the individual player to decide when reporting is necessary and not be called for by another player.

"Mass reporting by a player" is another matter altogether, and in my experience usually tells ZOS more about the player doing the reporting than about the players they are reporting.

if this is knowingly abused, hopefully they get warned of banning if it continues.

Well I know a group of players conspired to report someone for a name about 2 weeks ago. I know this player has been around at least 8 months with this name. It wasn't an offensive name but maybe ... maybe misleading. I had never seen them imply anything because of their name. I saw it come across one of my guild chats to report them. I didn't. And it ended up, the player got banned. Yesterday someone said something that wasn't really offensive but this player is not liked that much. And players were echoing "mass report".

I agree if they are really breaking TOS. But sometimes it's questionable. And there is the idea that mass reporting gets someone banned.

Why does what WE as players think of as questionable matter?

I'm pretty sure ZoS has their policies in place and it's the duty of their employees to follow those policies so it's their judgement that matters. Our hand-wringing as to what is and isn't questionable doesn't matter, people can report what they want why you have any issue with this is beyond me.

The fact of the matter is; if someone violates a policy they should be actioned, whether it's one report or one million reports a violation is a violation, if nothing questionable was done, no actions will be taken. Just because you don't think it's a violation doesn't mean it's not.

I think mass reporting calls attention to things that might have slid by in the past.

    And this is bad why?

"Mass" reporting that happens because many people see something and happen to report it at the same time is one thing.

But for one or more players to use chat or Discord to orchestrate the mass reporting of a player with the stated intention of trying to get them banned is nothing short of targeted harassment IMO.

And verbally abusing a player to bait them into making a response which the abuser(s) can then orchestrate others into mass reporting should be a perma-ban offense.

We saw a bit of that within the PS4 EU AD comunity a while back. A player who seemed to be playing "get people banned" pvp instead of actual fighting the reds and the blues pvp. Baiting, and reporting for stuff that ranged from justifiable (if perhaps baited) to real Karen stuff. Anyway, it seems that ZOS noticed eventually: we don't see them around anymore...

    This, right here. I concur.

One of my guildmates recently had to change his account name and a few of his character names for some reason. His names didn't violate any of the T & C or CoC, but the claim was made so...there it is.

Meanwhile, the racist / misogynistic / sexist / homophobic names are rampant.

    Selective offense wins out, apparently.
