honestly still REALLY want this spell to get buffed to ACTUALLY be useful by making its 2 minute morph into one where instead of getting used on the first hit, it just lasts 2 minutes and hits anyone not CC immune with an unblockable stun and maybe also has some cool added runic visual effects like the arcanhist magic.

"hey let's take one of the most op classes in pvp and give it an unblockable stun that can affect multiple targets while basically not requiring casting an ability since it's a buff skill". Ah yes, no flaw here, zos please make this change, it is really needed.

To be fair, although the OPs suggestion is extreme, Rune Cage is one of, it not, the worst stun skills in the game.

You can’t block it; but you can dodge it, and to make matters worse, it’s completely choreographed.

I’m inclined to agree that it needs a rework.

So give sorcs TWO unblockable stuns. Heck, why not three while we're at it. :D

    There are already two…

You might have known that if you saw Rune Cage at least once the entire time you’ve been playing the game.

When a skill like Streak is part of Sorcerer’s kit…

… there really isn’t a point to one like Rune Cage.

@Theist_VII Oh, I'm fully aware, but as you mentioned, if you get hit by it, its basically your fault. To make Rune Cage useful in PVP is ridiculous when sorcs already have Streak.

Rune Cage is actually extremely strong on bash builds against block heavy targets. Using Streak throws you out of position but Rune Cage allows you to continue bashing while the telegraph plays out. Sure it can be dodged but you can't roll dodge forever. You can also get 1-2 spammables off during the Rune Cage stun depending on how fast they break free.

Reverb is the preferred stun on bash builds now that Shattering Throw exists. But Rune Cage still has a place. Personally, I think Rune Cage is one of the strongest niche stuns in the game. You can also use it on Bow Sorc from 41m range in Cyrodiil.

You never see it, which is the problem.

Sorc Bash builds are about non-existent, and as mentioned, stuns are not hard to source on bash builds. Bow Sorc, another extremely rare build to run into, you will end up having your stun slot taken by Streak. It’s a no-brainer really, you’re getting two of your most relevant problems on a ranged build taken care of, an escape and a stun, and that’s with one bar slot.

Really it’s no contest, Streak is just unanimously better than Rune Cage, keeping this in mind, either Rune Cage needs a rework away from a stun, or Streak does.

Personally I would choose to remove the stun from Streak and to make Rune Cage undodgeable, that would be the easiest way to balance Sorcerer right now.

No chance this happens. Nearly every Sorc would protest this change including the ZOS devs that play Sorc.

Of course, a change like that would be drastic, but with the new-found surviveability of Sorcerer, they now have everything.

Just a year or two ago, @ZOS_Kevin explained to us that the vision of the developers was that each class should have a weak area, and surviveability was the specific area Sorcerers were intended to be weak in. They are near unkillable now.

Now if every class should be without weakness, than I want better sustain on my Warden without needing to be battered by three or more people, better cleave on my Nightblade, better movement design and damage on my Templar, and just a better overall Necromancer.

Streak stunning people was how Sorcerer managed to stay alive when they couldn’t rebound using Conjured Ward, that need is no longer present.

I'd rather they just make rune cage into a single target sticky DoT (like entropy) where it attempts the telegraphed + delayed stun, but has guaranteed damage over a 20s duration instead of needing the stun to land and finish its full duration to do any damage (which is currently making it useless for PvE).

    Doing this gives sorc:
    - a reliable way to proc crit surge passively while kiting since the DoT would last 20s
    - a reliable way to keep minor prophecy up that's not relying on the cast time of exchange or the rng of frags
    - a non-pet class DoT for PvE
    - removes some of the potential burst (not that the "burst" from this ability is even remotely good or reliable)

Back in U36, I put forward the idea of removing the stun from streak and replacing it with a snare to give sorc a burst heal, the most frustrating part was that even that drastic of a change to streak was not enough of a nerf for the non-sorc mains to contemplate giving sorc a reliable heal, they were not going to be "happy" until streak was deleted entirely from the game. So at this point keep streak as is, the haters are never going to be happy no matter how it's changed, and changing it drastically will just *** off sorc players while not making anyone else happy, so no point making any changes to it at all.
