Maintenance for the week of November 4:
• [COMPLETE] ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – November 6, 9:00AM EST (14:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EST (23:00 UTC)
I don't hate changes the devs make. That's a "roll with the punches" thing. What I dislike is people coming in here making statements about things that are "wrong" that other games do "so much better".
Every new feature seems to be a pale comparison of what it could of been.
Companions? Story, armor, skills, the whole thing could of been better thought out. SWTOR did a far better job. Then again, that probably why ESO's companions feel shallow. They did want to step on and toes.
ToT? Really? A card game within an MMO. Some people might enjoy it.
Antiquity/Mithics: A skill line of low grade brain teasers. With equipment you can unearth that only 2-3 MIGHT be useful.
There are more like OP classes that like clockwork get nerfed into oblivion a 1/2 year later.....got to sell those DLCs first right?
Scribing... let's be honest...every scribed skill is inferior to an already established skill. Spellcrafting was just too much I guess.
Dont get me wrong I still like and play the game....I'm just tired of the overhype of the next big thing just to have it deliberately watered down to a WTF state..
I think ESO is an interesting game to look at from a design and community perspective because it so sharply changed focus from what it was originally designed as. The rug was sort of pulled from under the original player base which has led to a lot of disappointment. However, the developers still make very weak attempts to keep some of the original players around.
ESO was honestly a pretty hard game in its early years. It also had a pretty strong focus on PvP and other MMORPG elements. One Tamriel was probably the biggest shift from ESO as a traditional MMORPG to ESO as a casual questing game with social elements. The original game and the game now are very different and appeal to very different crowds.
This is why there are people that are unhappy when things change and there's also those who are upset that things aren't changing. There's a now very small group of players that want harder content, PvP, and well balanced combat focused changes.
There's another crowd that doesn't like when content requires progression or a group to complete.
Recently it seems like even the solo questing crowd that gets the most focus is unhappy with poorly designed zones and quests. Scribing didn't seem to be a big hit with either crowd as well.
Long story short, the developers are in a difficult position of trying to keep the game appealing to very different types of players, somehow it seems that they are doing a poor job with appealing to ANY type of player though.
I think it comes with the territory when you play an MMO. You are essentially getting a new game every year or so if you sit and think about it.
Change is fine, the visceral reaction and constant whining can get old, but that's kinda what forums are for.
Tybalt Kaine Khajiit Nightblade Aldmeri Dominion
PC/NA
Guildmaster- Lucky Raven
Knight of Marrow - Blackfeather Academy
Adepti- The Witches Goblet
"Nightblade healer huh? How does that work?"
"I drain the blood of our enemies and fire it into you. It's a lot less messy than it sounds, and yeah I'm basically a Vampire without the whole AGH FIRE BAD"
Well, enjoying the game doesn't exclude a slight sadness and nostalgia for the past things that have been gone for ages.
Manaplar with tons of cc. DK wings that reflect meteor. Ball group of 24. Gankers at the IC entrance.
Trying vSO for vet12 gear. Desperate monster helm farm. New classes that were born OP and were nerfed after time.
All these things are still alive in our memories. I miss some of them. I'm glad some of them have been changed.
And here I was thinking that eating 50 mini tacos with one hand while playing eso with the other was eso's true skill
