Gamepad UI Question

How does one close a popup picture when using the gamepad ui and controller? Example are the drawn treasure maps or the brotherhoods black hand paper.

Put the controller down, open the map, use the keyboard to hit the x, or continue until you get the thing that the map shows the way to.

whichever button you use to exit stuff?
Xbox controller: B button.
PlayStation controller: O button.

or the map button
for PlayStation controllers it's the Touchpad, but i dont know the button name for Xbox controllers.

Presumably you're on PC and playing with a gamepad as this is the same issue that I when when I made the move from console to PC. In this case press the full stop key on your keyboard to unlock the mouse and then use the mouse to click the X in the top right of the note / map etc.

I never have to use the keyboard to close popup windows. I just press B (on an XBox-compatible controller). You shouldn't need the keyboard for that.

In most instances when using the gamepad UI on PC, pressing B on an XBox compatible controller will close pop up windows but that's not the case for all pop up windows. As an example, at the start of the Dark Brotherhood quest you're given a note that directs you to go to the lighthouse and if you read that using the gamepad UI on PC then the note remians on screen even if you press B. Other examples are the time breach maps given as part of the Psijic quest which behave in the same manner, unless ZOS have patched this since I last did them.

In my case, at least for Treasure Maps and Survey Reports, it was the addon "Lost Treasure" that was causing the popup images to remain on screen.

In Lost Treasure's addon settings: Mini Map > Show Mini Map "Show Mini Map, after using a treasure map or survey report."

You can disable that setting and it will no longer leave the popup on the screen...

i have no idea why it wouldn't work.
is it possible it's not bound to an Xbox button?

i am confused by the problem,
because my controller can control everything in eso on pc just like on a console except when i need to type to chat or search.

if it isn't an unbound button. is it an addon instead?
i don't use addons on pc so im just wondering

I am PC and use a controller while running around and fighting. Xbox does not close surveys, treasure maps or quest items. I do have a k/m for crafting, guild store stuff in town because the UI is better especially with addons like awesome guild store.

Anyway, you do have to use the mouse to close those windows. For me telhe easiest way is just hit <enter> giving focus to the chat window. You can use your mouse at that point.

This is the item I am talking about by the way. When gamepad ui is enabled nothing i press interacts with it because its overlayed on the screen while im playing and of course B is used for a skill action

I just would think that since this game is on console...and uses the same gamepad ui...there has to be a combination to access this object and close it.

Example...in PVP the combo to open up the scoreboard is D-Pad-Left + B.

Hoping someone knows one for other stuff like this

As @LatentBuzzard said, when using the Gamepad UI on PC the only way to close the Treasure Map/etc. popup is by pressing a key on the keyboard to unlock the mouse and then with the mouse press the X in the popup's frame. And just going to the target location does not close the popup either (at least I've never seen it automatically close).

I just tested by opening a Survey, and the map popup does not close from pressing the "B" button (or any other button) on the Xbox controller.

Well, I just tested it and pressing B works for me. So maybe some controllers aren't fully compatible with ESO? Seriously, I might not have done the Dark Brotherhood and Psjijic quests for a while, so I can't try those and maybe B didn't work (though I suspect it did). But I have never needed to use the keyboard to close surveys, treasure maps, etc. I do surveys and treasure maps all the time, in fact I just did a bunch last night AND just went into game and opened a survey and a treasure map, and both can be closed just by pressing B (as per the B - Exit prompt at the bottom left of the screen).

You might have some software running that's preventing it. Also, if you have Steam running (you do NOT have to be playing the game through Steam, you just have to have it running), it might be remapping some outputs. When I bought a new controller different from the one I usually use, half the inputs weren't working properly and after a little research, I figured out that I needed to tell Steam to stop doing the mapping.

But regardless, it is not necessary to ever use the keyboard when using the controller UI. It must be something specific to your system, or your controller type. Or you may be using an addon that's interfering with the input.

If you're getting the 'X' at the top right when it opens, then the game thinks you're in keyboard mode, so maybe the way you're opening them up is the problem?

There isn't. Press the full stop key on your keyboard to unlock the mouse pointer and click on the X in the top right hand corner.

PC may have a gamepad UI but it is not exactly the same as the gamepad UI on consoles. You may as well get used to it because if you want to make full use of of the benefits of being on PC (e.g. add-ons) then at times you will need to make use of the mouse and keyboard. Until fairly recently, you couldn't even use a controller to select characters from the character select screen. That's just ESO PC life, even when using a controller.

As you can see from the screenshots I posted, there is.

You mentioned that you use addons, so maybe that's somehow causing the problem. I don't use addons.

You need to read what people actually write and not what you think they wrote. No, I did not mention that I use add-ons and if you look above you'll see that I wrote

Note the bit in bold. I did not say that it happens in all instances, I said that there are some cases for which it does not work. Surveys and treasure maps work fine for me as well but below is a screenshot when using gamepad mode to view the Dark Brotherhood note

As you can see there's two instances of the note on screen and I have the option to press B to close it and go back. Below is what happens if I press B to go back though

You'll note that there's still a copy of the note on screen and I have to press the X in the top right hand corner to close it. So I will reiterate for you, in most instances when using the gamepad UI on PC, pressing B on an XBox compatible controller will close pop up windows but that's not the case for all pop up windows.

Yeah would be nice if ZOS could address whether or not its a bug or if its just meant to be that way. Cant imagine why they wouldnt have some form of combo or button I could map to for stuff like this.

/reloadui works for me.
Not sure if you need to have finished the quest associated with the map/paper though. I've only ever reloaded ui after finishing the quest.

I play with a Xbox controller on PC, and that’s an addon-related issue. A number of addons do not work with controllers, because the addon creators did not make them with controllers in mind. I mainly use mouse and keyboard in menus for this reason, and only use the controller in combat.

My bad on you using addons. But I was reading what people wrote. One poster in the thread stated that "I am PC and use a controller while running around and fighting. Another poster said "I just tested by opening a Survey, and the map popup does not close from pressing the "B" button (or any other button) on the Xbox controller." They're talking about treasure maps and surveys, not just to the dark brotherhood note and the one other item you're referring to. I wanted to show that you can use B to close maps and surveys.

But regarding addons (this isn't directed at you to be clear), if you use them, whenever something isn't working the way you think it should, the first step is to disable addons and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then you enable them back one by one until the problem appears again, and then you know which addon is causing it.

I don't use addons because they often don't play nice with the controller UI. I decided I'd rather have the full controller UI than the convenience of using some addons. When I use a controller, I want to use a controller, not have to switch between it and the k/m. Having said that, I do have to use the keyboard to search, and I do use the keyboard with guild traders because the controller UI doesn't work well with them - that's a ZOS problem.

Ok, I stand corrected... My apologies... It is an addon (in my case at least) that is leaving the "popup image" on the screen after viewing a Treasure Map or Survey Report.

I removed all addons, then tested opening a Survey Report, and now the "popup image" is not shown or left on screen. Then I enabled each addon one-by-one, and found that the addon "Lost Treasure" is the culprit...

I have been using this addon for yeeears and never knew about that setting. No wonder this has always happened to me...

I am not able to test reading a clue/note/etc. that leaves one of those popups on screen because I don't know where an easy to find one is located... I searched on 4 different characters trying to find that Dark Brotherhood note but I can't find it anywhere...

I am not using any addons. This is just base level ESO, reloading doesnt work. I cant find a way to close the overlay pages that show up. Yes if I open them up and it brings up the image in the center of the screen with the rest blurred out I can close that...but the overlay on the left side of the screen I cant figure out how to close it using a controller.

How do people on console close that popup? Does anyone know what that popup is called and if actions for it can be mapped?

As for context...the overlay in the screenshot is from the beginning quest of Blackwood where you pick up those pieces of paper

I get out of everything by hitting the enter key as if I wanted to type in the chat window and that frees up the pointer so I can close whatever it is.

Question...is there an issue with addons still running if you do this? Do I have to actually go through and delete all addons and libraries? I thought this would turn everything off and bring it back to base eso.

Sorry but I have no idea...

I tried finding that Dark Brotherhood note (that @LatentBuzzard posted) on 4 different characters that have never been to the Gold Coast but I can't find it anywhere... I remember seeing that note years ago, and it left that popup on the screen. I wonder if account-wide achievements might be preventing that specific note from being found again... Also there are some quests in the Gold Road that left a popup on the screen after reading something. I just don't know of another easy note/clue/etc. to find so that I can test it...

The addon "Lost Treasure" does say it works for Treasure Maps and Survey Reports, but it does not say anything about notes, clues etc. And @cptscotty says they aren't using any addons... So I really have no idea...

Without being able to find a note/clue/etc. to read that leaves a popup on screen, I just can't test it and say for certain...
