Magplar PVP build advice?

Hello. I want to try to get into PVP, and would like to ask the PVP community for advice on builds for magplar, since I enjoy templar and prefer to play in a somewhat ranged manner (it does not have to be fully ranged, I'd like advice on any type of build, really.)

I have watched a lot of PVP guides with advice, but I'm confused about many things. Some say deadly is best, some say orders wrath is best. Can you/should you use both in PVP? Are there better things to combine with these sets on a magplar? There's just so many different factors to think about and sets to consider, and I don't know where to begin since I'm inexperienced in PVP. I just know I'd prefer to play templar since it's my favorite class.

I'm open to hearing about one bar builds as well as 2 bar builds. Which type of build is better? Some guides say an oaken build, some say 2 bar builds.

(the only thing I cannot do is builds with trials gear since I'm not into doing trials)

thanks if you can help :)
Time flies like an arrow- but fruit flies like a banana.

Sorry for my English, I do not always have a translation tool available. Thank you for your patience with our conversation and working towards our mutual understanding of the topic.

2 bars are almost always gonna be stronger than 1 bar, since oaken doesn't put anything on the table that you can't obtain from the second bar. Second bar allows to slot way more heals. The only benefit of oaken is lack of downtimes on buffs.

I don't think deadly is the meta anymore. It's a set that buffs channels and dots, thus it buffs jabs. You said you want ranged, thus you want to have Crushing Shock / scribed single target, and it won't get that buff.

The classic combo of rangeplar today is Meteor (blockable, not dodeable) -> Aurora Javelin (dodgeable, not blockable) -> jbeam.

Idk about sets, it's not the class I play the most, I don't like how they nerfed jabs and his melee potential.
Ranged is still pretty decent tho as you have strong defensive package with Living Dark, Extended Ritual, Focus.

Delete the character and play something else. Templar range build currently are boring.

Doesn't Deadly still buff Jesus Beam?

Not meta but I recently started using hrothgar and wretched. Combining blazing spear and toppling charge into jabs/ beam with the hrothgar proc as well tends to be half decent.

It does, but it’s a waste to wear a whole five piece set for one skill. I’m a magplar main, and am having more success with Shattered Fate on my front bar than Deadly. Also, thanks to scribing, we finally have access to a ranged skill that provides Major Sorcery that isn’t garbage tier (unlike Degeneration). I would only go back to using Deadly if I also went back to using Jabs, but ranged magplar feels more fun to me these days, personally.

Quick and Dirty Guide to Decent (i.e., not optimized, but easy to play) Magplar Build

Bar 1:[Major Sorcery skill, either Degeneration or Scribing], [spammable, either Crushing Shock or Scribing], Radiant Glory, Javelin, Resolving Vigor, Meteor
Bar 2: Eclipse, Rune, Extended Ritual, Honor the Dead, Elemental Susceptibility, Dawnbreaker of smiting

Backbar set: Rallying Cry (use Ice Staff)
Frontbar set: Shattered is always good and as beginner much to recommend (For beginner I'd recommend a lightning staff here since you are ranged. 2 maces is on paper stronger, but requires experience to maximize potential).
Monster: Roksa (for resources) or Balrogh (for offense). Either works. For no CP, would go Roksa.
Mythic: Preference here. Wild Hunt is not optimal, but as a beginner on a slow class, it will make your time learning less painful. Death Dealer's and Markyn Ring of Majesty are both solid all the time. Saint and Seducer is probably best but requires knowing which buffs are on to get the most out of it.
Use one piece Trainee for last piece.

I like 2 heavy, 4 medium, 1 light, but it's preference more than anything.

If you have access to scribing, I'd *really* try to get major vitality.

Jewel's of Misrule is most efficient food. Health > 30K. Don't beam targets over 35% health (unless they getting attacked by allies, then 50%). You're not going to ever kill anyone half decent with Crushing Shock. Try to not to just stun people just because. You need to javelin + beam (or meteor) to kill anything so ideally, javelin people when their health drops to about 40%ish. Of course, if you need it defensively use it then.

Even though you ranged, you cant stay at max range as Javelin is only 22 meters. But you aren't squishy so it's fine.

The only thing you really have to manage here is making sure your HoTs are up, which you should be doing anyway. Eclipse, Vigor, and Ritual together will ensure >90% uptime on Rallying Cry set (which you need).

I'm on Xbox ey and I see very few templates and even fewer magika templar's..it's my main and il keep pushing it into the mix. Using hrothgar with blazing spear and topple charge just adds a little more than stat builds I think. I play mele as I don't find range plar all that fun, I want to be brawling not standing back like a sorc who does it better any way.

I prefer wild hunt with swift as frees me up from using RAT and I can slot something else more useful.
I don't use any scribe skills as I haven't done the skill line yet, anything worth using?

I would love to see majorly sorcery moved to something other than jabs, I don't believe it should be tied to the stam variant spammable, just doesn't make sense. Id like to see some corrections like other classes have had but for what other reason templar seems at the bottom of the agenda right now.

Malcolm ESO has decent builds, there's no meaningful playstyle difference between mag and stam on Plar anymore. It'll be easier to come by the Major Brut/Sorc buff via Scribing next patch to open up more builds.

Healing Soul can potentially be a big upgrade over BoL/HtD with the Druid's Sig (even post nerf will be good), and either the Major Brut/Sorc Affix for bar compression, or Major Vitality for power. Contingency will also be able to add the missing Major Brut/Sorc in u43, right now I see it both offensive and defensive, often with Minor Force or Minor Vuln on it. Both of these will also have Major Sav/Proph crit buff as an option come u43 as well, for more much needed bar compression.

Healing soul is Aoe right healing lowest person nearby, I might be wrong but I don't see being useful as a selfish heal in group play such as bg/PvP. At least I have some kind of aim with HtD. Maybe contingency could work, in combination with vigor or block to consume it. Adding those buffs will also be nice, but got to unlock them first and as I only did the scribe quests today..got some ways yet

The targeting on Healing Soul can be awkward sometimes. ZOS should address that. Really loving Healing Contingency though now that I'm used to the activation dance, surprisingly strong burst and HoT that cross heals in an 8m radius, lots of unique affixes available, u43 bringing the major wd and crit buffs to Contingency will be huge for some builds.

The forgotten Healing Burst has been a fun find for open world DK, lower tooltip but it can AoE burst heal and purge on each cast, eats siege, and gives me the rare Minor Expedition so I can better keep up with Sorcs and NBs.

Here's a few of the ones I've enjoyed using recently. The low tooltips are unbuffed from 64 hp Warden and DK brawlers outside Cyro, the high tooltip on Contingency at the end is from a glass NB inside Cyro.

I highly recommend shattered fate with vicious death and having occult overload for a cp when you kill a target and get vd and oo to proc. Otherwise a tad squishy compared to using rally cry. Also balorg is the preferred monster set. Still boring attacking at range. One thing that get me is that some 2h skill with a range of 8m can hit my character when I can’t even get to use javelin with it 22m range on that target. Problem with Templar range builds is a good player will dodge about 75%+ off your attacks.

    Pvp Maggplar main here:

Draugkrin front bar with charged lightning staff, force shock as spammable. Balorgh or magma incarnate, rally cry back bar with shield. Majesty ring because templar passive give 16% spell damage bonuses(36% with major sorcellery).

    Vamp stage 3, atronach mundus.

But honestly, templar is weak, you need to wear 4 damages sets to have decent damage, and others classes have better defensive tools than templar. Try magsorc or NB(easy mod)

Saint and seducer will give you more DMG than Markyn ring, give it a go if havnt already.
I play mine as it's been my main since day 1 and I will always strive to make it work the best I can.
