How Can I Ignore A Player?

I am a new-ish player to ESO - just started playing this past November. It's been slow and since I am a casual I haven't done much. I'm also only a free player having access to only the base game - no Plus for me nor any paid DLC except what has been given since November via the Calendar.

Anyway, this is my first post to this Forum so please forgive me if I am posting wrong. I would like to know how I can ignore players that refuse to respond in chat. I am specifically trying to ignore players that waste my limited playtime by running ahead and boss rushing in dungeons. I usually only do my one daily dungeon and since the release of Gold Road it has been a constant issue.

As DPS I wait my 3-15 minutes in queue only to get in a group where one or more players just rush past all the trash and bosses that they can leaving me to be killed by what they skip, cheating me out of valuable experience for my character and loot not to mention necessary activity to level my skills. I then have to endure a lengthy deserter debuff before I am allowed to re-queue and take my chances with another group. Most of the time I just logoff for the day, skipping the daily dungeon and hope I have better luck the next day.

If they offending player(s) do not engage in chat I have no way to put them on my Ignore List so I never have to group with them again. Unless there is a way? I have looked and asked ingame and there does not seem to be a method. Which brings me here to the Forum.

How can I ignore these players if they do not respond in chat? I'm not interested in debating their selfish behavior while they are part of a group - they have made their intentions clear - it's all about them, not the group. I just want to do my part to not have my limited playtime wasted by these selfish players by having them ignored and blocked so that I never get gouped withh them again.

And before the smart***es state the obvious, yes, I know I can just not play ESO and spend whatever money I would have spent here somewhere else. I'm kind of already doing that anyway since I'm not seeing much benefit to spending it here. But I still have some hope that eventually I might.

Ignoring/Blocking a player isn't going to prevent you from being grouped with them. It'll just prevent them from Whispering to you, and anything they say publicly won't show up in your chat window.

As in any MMO, if you're looking to group for a significant part of your time and enjoyment then it's really advisable to join guilds that are sympathetic to your playstyle and group with other members, rather than relying on PUGs.

You can block or ignore a player by using these steps.

When a player is ignored, their UserID will be added to the Ignored tab. If they were previously listed as a contact, their UserID will be removed from the Contact panel [O]. The ignoring player will no longer be able to see any communication from the ignored player. Attempting to send a whisper to the ignored player will result in the message "Player is ignored."

I wish group finder would not place you with people on your ignore list. I know it would mean a little longer queue time, but it would be worth it.

I don't understand not melting all the trash in RNDs. Not killing everything makes for a terrible experience for new players. I also see 1-2 ink drop from mobs in each dungeon I do. Never from bosses, only from mobs. (1-2 for all 4 players, not per player)

And it's fun. I used to use dark convergence, but then it was nerfed to something like a 25 second cooldown. But now arc has a pull skill, and with scribing, any class can have a pull skill. This makes it a blast to go into a normal dungeon, lay down one skill to group everything, and then blow them all up in 1-2 seconds. This is so much more fun than running through those mobs just to wait at doors because you are stuck in combat, IMO.

But some people will insist. The only option really is to drop out if that is not for you, and it sucks to have to requeue at all, and especially to have to wait 15 minutes to do it.

EDIT TO ADD: Worst dungeon experience yet goes to the March of Sacrifices RND where we failed the stealth check at Tacyr (sp?) because of the mobs someone had run through. We all got pull to join the encounter but were stuck in combat. So, can't go forward, can't go back. We had to abandoned it. So running ahead definitely did not save that person time and also wasted a lot of ours.

I find less people run ahead if you're doing vet dungeons.

As for queue times. I recommend being a tank because you almost always instantly get in.

Relying on the game to randomly group you with total strangers is unfortunately always going to produce random results.

I do think that ideally, the game should prevent grouping you with people you've ignored, but it doesn't... and such a system unfortunately still wouldn't prevent one from being grouped with other incompatible players.

Suggest using the group finder tool / trying out some guilds as more reliable ways of finding compatible players for group content. One can't control random strangers, but one can control their own experience by putting in some effort to find better groups.

Many players eventually move on from the random finder, using the other tools available to form groups with the random finder as a last resort to, for example, occasionally fill an empty spot. It's worth it imo.

Try looking for a group in the Group Finder tool instead of Dungeon Finder, and note it so that players know why you're running the dungeon. I've done this to complete quests and collect eidetic memory books and it worked fine.

This is partially correct, if you happen to get grouped with them in the dungeon finder their messages will still be visible in group chat. Also as mentioned, ignoring a player will not prevent future contact with them in match making similar to other MMO's sadly.

For OP there is an addon called Toxic Players, which is pretty nice for giving you notice when you do run into ignored players and has some hot keys and such to make it easier to ignore. If someone merits an ignore by me, I generally leave a comment/note in the ignore tab as to what they did. That way if I run into them again and they were really jerks I know to just leave the group and avoid them as much as possible. Sadly you will take the 15min penalty but that is up to you.

They're not necessarily selfish. They just have a different idea about how a normal dungeon should be played than you. We're all empowered to play ESO how we want to. They're as entitled to their view as you are to yours.

Some of them are grinding that dungeon for a particular item drop and may have done it dozens of times. Chances are if you get Falkreath Hold, at least some of the other players fall into this category and you're going to have to speed run it.

Dungeon exp is very low, so you're not really missing out there.

Personally, I prefer not to speed run. I hate being stuck in combat and normal trash packs melt so quickly, there's barely any benefit to skipping them most of the time. But I go with the flow. If the others want to speed run, I'll support that.

I suggest controlling what you can control by making a survivable build with a self-heal that can kill or at least survive trash packs.

Or as others have suggested, use the group finder or find like-minded players in guilds and discord communities. Don't count on a system in the game to match you with players like you automatically.

As others have mentioned, ignoring a player won't stop us from being grouped with them again. But there are other things to consider in this situation.

If a player isn't ESO+ and/or hasn't purchased any DLCs they will only get base game dungeons. Most players have done these so many times they just want to get through it and get it done. It's not a matter of being selfish but rather what these groups usually expect.

If I'm bringing a new character in that hasn't done the quest yet I always mention that I need to do the quest. Most groups will slow down if we just ask nicely.

I totally agree OP those people who run ahead dragging a mob of player killing trash are bad. I can understand why you wouldn't want to have anything to do with them going forward. It is a selfish behavior that prioritizes what they want over the idea that 4 person content is about the experience not the reward. It's unfortunate that if you sign up for a random dungeon you have no real control over who you are there with.

A guild is a good suggestion, asking nicely at the start can often help. If it's just one person running ahead vote to kick is an option although getting a replacement can be time-consuming.

I have been healing in randoms for years and have been through those base game dungeons so many times my stickerbook is full but I know everybody starts somewhere and supporting new players is good for the game so I do it.

Is this true? Every MMO I've played he had it setup that I was never grouped with anyone I had ignored. ESO does not have the same design? I know that ESO is completely unlike any MMO I've played but I ASSUMED it would have this standard feature present in other MMOs.

If true I guess I will be playing even less than I have been. It is not worth my time to wait out the deserter debuff just to do the daily dungeon.

If you want to ignore the silent player, you may:
1. Open the friend list (default hotkey O), then choose "Ignored" tab
2. Press "Add Ignore" (default hokey E)
3. Start typing player's character name or @userId. Interface helps you with some hints here: it offers the players you were in one zone/group lately.
4. Choose the name/userId you want to ignore and confirm it with "Add ignore".

Unfortunately it won't save you from grouping with ignored people. You won't see their messages in chat both zone and private, but that's all.

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience in dungeon with random groups. I would suggest you to join a social guild that mention dungeons in their description.
Many random players plays aggressively in dungeons and you can't change their behavior, sorry.
Meanwile joining the guild group and running dungeon with guild mates was my best experience with learning the dungeons I've ever had.

Another way: gathering your own group in zone chat. It will guarantee you won't group with people you ignored. However the aggressive-style players can probably join you this way too. You can't check the play style by user id.
