Likelihood of Focused Efforts roll dependent on build?

Today I ran with a friend for the third time on our current builds, we got almost to arc 7 before we had to quit for dinner. She's on a 64 pt magic build that emphasizes the use of a weakening staff, I am on a 64 pt health build that emphasizes focused efforts. Today she was offered 4 Focused Efforts over 6 arcs, and I got 1. The first run I got 1, she was offered several, and the last run I was offered zero and she was offered eight.

Is this just awful RNG or do you guys notice the likelihood being dependent on build? It's getting to the point where this being strictly RNG is...unlikely. Maybe a tweak was made?

It's just bad rng. I've gotten focused efforts from the first boss on a build made to leverage it, and I've gone to arc 6 without seeing a single one. Many people suggest restarting after arc 1 if you don't get any, since it'd often be quicker getting a lucky focus efforts over pushing through higher arcs without it.

If it was just me not getting them, I'd be with you, but my partner on a different build is getting offered them constantly. The odds of this just being bad RNG seem low. Not impossible of course.

I sure would like if likelihood of buffs depended on build (AKA not getting pet buff on classes that have no pets???) but considering you can get the pet ones on classes that have no access to pets, I doubt there's any effect from your build on the rng.

That's a good counterpoint. Do proc sets that produce temporary third party stuff that attacks (morkuldin sword, the crows from that darkness set) count as pets for this I wonder?

To be absolutely clear, I am not saying ZOS do anything like this. However, interesting video:

Yes, but depending on set. "Real" pets used to have pet icon above their head (in combat this icon also has a sword):

But apparently this is no longer a thing for sets? I just discovered this now when I wanted to take picture of icon above Maw. Anyway, I checked with Daedric Prey, those sets are still buffed by it, so they still count as pets, just harder to identify what is a pet and what isn't.

From memory, sets with real pets that deal damage: Maw of Infernal, Shadowrend, Morkuldin, Defiler, Mad Tinkerer; Pets, but without damage: Engine Guarding, Chokethorn.
Archive Verse that gives you rat is also a pet.

Aegis, Scavenging Demise and many other look like summons, but they are just visuals/animations/projectiles with no brains.

Mad tinkerer's fabricant usually instantly goes into attack mode, so most players never see it walking around like real pet, but it can :)

My experience with ESO RNG is that it seems like the game has a hard time doing proper seeding or resetting seeds between RNG events. A number of game experiences with RNG make things seem like it's an "all or nothing" situation.
    Don't tank

That is indeed an interesting video, and I thank you for sharing. Of course ZOS doesn't get money out of me for putting me in The Frustrated Zone in IA, so like you I doubt this is what's going on. I imagine it must be just RNG but holy cow, about 20 total arcs with 2 FE for me and over 10 for my partner who doesn't need it, that is some heckin' bad RNG.

If I don't have a MINIMUM of 2 FE by the start of Arc 3, I restart. Anything else is a slog.

It is beyond me how Zos hasn't addressed FE yet. No other vision comes close to its power level, and its single handedly making deep runs possible without them takin forever.
For the record, I'd like other visions buffed to similar level. This fishing for FE to get a decent run sucks out all the fun for IA.

And it'll be made even worse with a bunch of new visions unless there are several of those new visions that are just as powerful.

    It´just RNG

I was thinking they pached out FE for beeing OP for a while since I didn´t see it for at least 1,5 weeks and then I got 3 before reaching Arc 3.

I play with a FE build and thake that quite relaxed - the FE builds are a gamble with a singular OP verse ofc you have to expect runs where you dont see it at all - remember a fight where I didnt have the damage to bring down Molag Kenas 4 summons in time it was so painful :D
