Antiquity system bonus items

To be honest I now converted to just wasting the remaining time after I have found the antiquity as I really think the bonus items are just low incentive to spend that time on them. The money value is negligeable and for the useable items other sources are there that are much faster.

I really think there should be a chance to get really high quality items as bonus so that it is really worthwhile to try to find it.

Yesterday I "found" a gold lead bonus item. Granted, it was for West Weald - and I don't have the DLC yet - but it was a surprise. Also "found" a couple set armor pieces - nice if you're outfitting other characters.

So, while it doesn't happen often, there is the chance for something besides a stuffed monkey.

If youre not interested in the bonuses, you dont have to waste time. After youve dug up the main item, just hit 'escape' and you can leave with it. I do this sometimes when Im in a hurry, because yeah.. the bonuses arent that great.

However, I will say must of the time I go after them anyway, just to watch the explosion

I get them to see if I can. Especially once you get to the higher levels and getting them all out is a matter of connecting the fissures to trigger a chain reaction it's like a puzzle. It doesn't take long and I like to see if I can get it right. It's never really crossed my mind to worry about the gold value of the items.

How do you do that without breaking the antiquity? Some of them only have a health of 2 so I've always tried to avoid setting off fissures. Now I'm wondering if I've been missing something.

I don't always find bonus items in fissures (yes, digging up gold antiquities on level 10 characters so yes, there's supposed to be 3 bonus items). I will sometimes find a bonus in a fissure if it's near the antiquity, but the fissures at the edges never seem to have any in them....

I think they were saying they connect the fissures together, by creating a path between them all at the same depth and then you use the "A" button to create a chain reaction which clears the path to the bottom of the dig.

It is a effective and fun way to expose the bonus items! 🤣

Yes. I understood that. I just haven't found it to be the case - in my own case that is.

I'm not at my pc atm but I have several screenshots of the resulting pathways that can be created.

With enough time left to create a meandering path you can sometimes expose a good 50% of the remaining area. 🙂

Here's an example of the paths that can be created. I can't remember why I took a screenshot of this particular excavation but it works as an example:

    ThtqX8uh.png

What happened there is I fully dug up the bag first, then started using the brush to make a path between all the fissures. Since I didn't want to activate any fissures until I'd joined all of them, but also didn't want to waste the charges for the trowel and shovel I was using the shovel to clear an area off the path of the fissures, just in case they didn't expose all the bonus items (it doesn't always). But other than that I was focused on the fissures, so all those long 'paths' will have been cleared all at the same time when I activated one of the fissures. It can cover a large area and I've found that more often than not at least 2 of the bonus items are included.

I always fully uncover the antiquity first, then it doesn't seem to be affected. It sometimes means I have to create a longer path to go around the exposed area (especially if I got the location wrong at first and ended up with a large area cleared), but it means I won't destroy it.

Yes, that's what I do as well. I estimate I find bonuses in fissures about 15 or 20% of the time, and it's usually just one, not more.

Interesting that it's so variable. RNGeezus I suppose....

I have never damaged an antiquity when exploding a path way connecting the fissures but as mentioned by @Danikat I always uncover the actual antiquity first too.

Are there particular tools you need for pathed explosions? Or passives. I've just started to try and figure this trick out.

I like connecting the fissures. That is more fun than the main piece. But I don't sweat the bonus items. I uncovered a ton of the dig like the screen shot above and got bupkiss...

You need to connect the fissures (two or more) with a path of the same height. It doesn't really matter at what height that path is, except the highest ones (the white-ish layers) probably won't work. Make sure the path doesn't touch the antiquity if you haven't unearthed it already. While hovering your mouse over one of the fissures, you get a faint blue-ish line indicating what will be blown up when you explode it, so you can check if you got the path you want.

Then you have to use the upper-right tool (in the screenshot above: the one with the key A) when fully charged to explode one of the fissures. You need the second rank of the Trowel skill to do this.

A couple of pics to show what the joined up fissures look like with the blue highlight......

Then it's just a matter of pressing A/using the trowel whilst within the blue border. :)

The passive for the Trowel will enable you to safely trigger the fissures when you have it at 2/2. The 1st skill point removes 3 layers of dirt/rock, and the 2nd point enables the ability to safely trigger the fissures.

I have fully excavated quite a few of these and then gone for the fissures and broke the main item, even if the fissure was no where near it. I can’t really tell what I’m doing wrong so I just dig until I run out. I usually get all items unless it’s one of the gold ones.
