When you deconstruct a piece of equipment that adds a cosmetic, you get the cosmetic for it. Is it the same way if you research an item? Thanks.

Because if not, I'd lose the cosmetic. And I thought maybe the only way to get the cosmetic would be from another player giving me the item so I could get the option again.

No, that’s not how it works. You have to learn motif pages. They can be bought in guild stores, on the crown store, or found as drops in game.

? I think you might not understand the system particularly well. Deconstructing items doesn't give you any style options related to that item, you either have to consume a motif page or a outfit style page to get the collected cosmetic. Deconstructing items has a chance of giving you a style material, which is useful in crafting gear in a particular motif.

Deconstructing an item does not grant you access to the style of the item - as you said, cosmetic. WoW does that. In ESO, in order to acquire certain style, you will have to read the specific style/motif page. There's no other way of acquiring the cosmetic style.

What you see when you deconstruct an item is it being added to your item sets collection. When an item is in your item sets collection, you can reconstruct it in exchange for transmute crystals. This works as a ways of saving inventory space and, furthermore, it allows you to change the trait of said item.

Now, to the question. I don't know if researching an item adds them to your collection. I believe it does, since the item is technically destroyed (deconstructed).
