Quest dialogue full of daft slapstick comedy and one liners

What happened to immersive dialogue in this franchise? Why do so many conversations with NPCs end with irrelevant jokes that break immersion? Seems like much of the new chapter quest dialogue is stuffed with cheap jokes, innuendos, and lazy one liners.
