Just start ESO directly, bypass the launcher, that works for me.

That works just fine until we get a patch rolled out and have to patch the game. Then what are we gonna do..
Hope we can get a fixed launcher update before the game gets a patch.

I just wish ZOS would give a link to the download on a server instead of insisting on the launcher. I loved that about WoW and RIFT....

I get the launcher message at shutdown only.

I ran a repair, it didn't change anything. So I just gave up. It doesn't disturb me since the notification comes only at shutting down. However, if someone get a solution some time, will be happy to know about. o:)

Thank you. Forgot you could do that. Game hung twice on me using the launcher. Went right in starting directly.

And we're getting a patch on July 9th. I haven't seen any updates on launcher issues status nor any more comments made by zos.
Has everyone here resolve their issues?

Nope. My friend still can't get into the game, no matter what he tries.

I've been getting this launcher error for some time, and have done a good bit of testing with it to see if I can pin down what is happening. Short answer is I can't, but I can at least reliably get my game to work. The performance of the launcher itself is terrible, my CPU and GPU go nuts when it is open, my fan starts to run nonstop. It lags, it starts to follow my mouse around if I try to click anywhere on it because it gets "stuck" on the mouse.

    Current launcher version: 1.6.2.2901765

    Things that did not work:
    • Restarting, anything. Game, computer, internet etc, did not work.
    • Did not have PTS installed, manually removed old addon files associated from having PTS before. I also did the "check for obsolete files" which did find and remove files, but made no difference.
    • Using the repair option.
    • Using any of the other update options. (always, after startup, never)
    • Deactivating all addons (this requires having to launch the game with one of my workarounds first) and attempting to launch the game in that state.

    What has worked:
    • Launching the game with the .exe, so long as the launcher is closed. If it is open, the game gets stuck on a black screen.
    • Launching the game with the launcher and then using control panel to force quit the launcher. Again the game will launch and get stuck, but once the launcher is force closed the game will unfreeze after a few seconds and launch just fine.

I deleted my launcher and reinstalled it, now shows an updating message on the start button but nothing happens. So I still start the game directly to play, will be so happy if the launcher can be fixed.

The new launcher automatically resets your preferences and hides the PTS environment, but it will still download the PTS updates in the background. The new message "The latest game launch has failed" you get when trying to log into the Live server is because the new launcher is detecting too much data being transferred, and you're getting timed out by some trigger.

You have to go into the settings and select "Show PTS environment," And then you will see that it's trying to download the multi-gig update in the background. You then have to find the setting which has defaulted to automatic downloading, and change it to "Never." Close the launcher, reopen it, and you should be able to log into the regular game with no problem.

I always cringe when I see that folks are repairing or reinstalling the game, because usually it's just something simple. The new notification about not being able to play due to corrupted files is somewhat of an amputate the arm to get rid of a blister on the finger solution. And in this case, even if you reinstall the game, you will still have the problem with the new launcher trying to download the PTS in the background and timing out your efforts to get into Live. The best solution would be for ZOS to have set the new updated launcher default settings to never automatically download PTS files in the background until players turn it on.

It should not be like this in the first place, I will go hunting to see if PTS is the problem, I have never ever activated that, hey, thanks for your input.... 😀

Yeah I found this out the hard way. I got the same notifications as the OP, but then it occurred to me the I wasn't seeing the PTS option on the launcher any more. So I had to go looking for it in the settings, and when I did, I saw that it was trying to download in the background and timing out my Live log in.

Others have had this problem as well, and here's some screenshots someone took of what to look for:

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/662210/pts-update-is-prioritised-over-live-update-preventing-live-update

I think one problem people are having who haven't logged in in a while is that they can't play the regular game because it needs to update, but it can't update because the PTS is somehow prioritized to update first with the new launcher. So as long as the PTS is updating in the background, you're not getting into the main game because it can't update 2 games at once. So it's throwing a code saying "Uh oh, maybe need to repair!" when actually all you need to do is let PTS finish first, or cancel it altogether.
