Sorcerer Battlemage is there a best race to go with this combo?

So wanting to be a Sorc and use a 2 hander and bow but also don't want to be gimped if I play a traditional caster...atm I am a High Elf but wondering if I picked wrong and should of gone with something else like a Khajiit for example due to Health regen, melee crit and bonus to stealth all which would compliment melee I think...

Or will it even matter and I should just stay with the High Elf and make up the other stats with gear? Will Health Regen from a Race like Khajiit actually help?

You want to keep Critical Surge and Lightning Form on at all times so the Altmers passives are actually quite handy.

I have to wonder though if that will make or break being a battlemage or any other kind of setup for that matter just as a caster...?

Race does matter to an extent, but it won't make a viable build unviable. The Khajiit passive Carnage helps with Critical Surge healing but only works for melee attacks. I'd say that Altmer is the more versatile of the two since magic attacks don't benefit from stealth and the health regen isn't great.

Ok thanks for the insight about that and the racials between the two...

Since I have had a number of people read this and not many reply think I will just stay with my High Elf (Altmer).

    Hi Clare,

I've gone for a DAoC "Thane" type; Storm Calling (Sorcerer), Heavy Armour, and 2H weapon as a Nord, going all-out offensive.

Hoping it works out well - stick with what you've got and let us know how it goes.

Personally for battlemage, I'm running a dark elf with dual wield and storm calling, with Lighning form, rapid strikes, dual slash, mages wrath, and the lightning aoe, and when I go in it's MW>LF>AOE>DS>RS>Melee and Keep LF, AOE and DS up at all times.

Using lightning attacks heavy and light armor mix with shield and one hand. Lightning form AOE, dark shards, the first lightning attack and low slash.

I made an Orc Battlemage. Probably not the best choice.

I opted to use Imperial just because I wanted to be EXTREMELY tanky. I also use 2-handers and have not had any problem with survivability in any dungeon as a tank and I have also done DPS. I went with heavy armor but Lightning Form is so powerful you would probably be better off taking medium armor because I am at soft-cap for armor and spell resist constantly without Lighting Form due to always having great gear. I think a great build would be Medium Armor Sorceror Dual Wield Khajiit because the Khajiit passive to increase crit chance would have amazing synergy with Critical Surge.

In the end I ended up going with Altmer because I figure it will give my Sorcerer a good base for doing whatever I want with the character. Though I looked hard at Breton, Dunmer, and Khajiit not necessarily in that order.

    Thanks for the replies!

I went with Imperial, just because I pre-ordered and could. I am VR1 now, and found a really sold build for me.

I'm working on two alts now. They both happen to be the two races you are deciding between.

In the end, it depends on what you plan to do more. If you want to be more melee, and bow, and then use your sorc abilities to back up those abilities, go with the Cat. If you want to be more of a 'caster', and do the majority of your damage with spells, go with the High Elf.

For me, I chose the High Elf because he is the tallest guy in the game. I wanted a big target that can get everyones attention easy.

For my Tank Sorc (on Ironside), I went with a 5 set Medium Armor. Without giving out too much information about my build, lets just say that I easily have 1600 armor all of the time, and push 1800+ most of the time, and 3k health. With the bonuses from Medium armor, I hit fairly well, and have a passive 30% crit rate (I don't use surge).

Like I said, I like to use stamina abilities, but I favor 1h/shield instead of 2h. I like being able to spam the crap out of Shield Charge and Puncture. It is so fun to fly through a field of enemies with sparks flying, knocking down one guy after another, and then have my team mop the floor with them all.

I can also charge in and tank the 4 NPCs at resource camps, as long as I have a pocket healer.

The only thing I didn't like about him, is he doesn't do a TON of dps. So that is why I was going to re-roll as a Cat, and dump my points into Stamina instead of Health.

    Just my 2c.

    Here is my Battlemage build
Khajiit (for crit bonus, stamina regen, and health regen)
2 handed (for weapon abilities and damage)
Mixed of medium and heavy armor (enchanted to provide bonus to max magica)
I built my character with a goal in mind of dealing massive damage without taking any and it's all about the stuns. I open with crystal shard (DPS/knockdown), then critical charge (DPS/immobilize), then uppercut (DPS/knockback), then mages fury (DPS). Anything at my level, give or take a level, is now dead without ever getting off a shot at me. That also lets me split my attacks between my magica pool and my stamina pool. Once I get high enough in storm calling I am going to add bolt escape. That will allow me to get separation from the fight, stun anyone around me, and let me restart that rotation on another bad guy.
