Gold road w/o scribing is it worth it?

So, at the moment I have no interest in scribing. In large part because I'm still so burned out from the staff I just can't face another grind, yet. I'm really happy with the class skills I've got and satisfied with my builds. If there was enough ink freely available to experiment I might be temped, but I will not grind it.

So my question is, are the other things in the chapter, the quests, the new furnishings, delves and dungeons worth it without scribing? I will get Gold Road eventually. But if scribing is the main draw maybe I'll just put off buying until I can face grinding again and maybe it will be on sale... :-)

If you want to explore Colovia, the overland is beautiful. That said, the quest content hasn't felt all that appealing, but I'm not the best judge of that.

If you enjoy trials, yes. Lucent Citadel is probably the best trial to date. Not quite as difficult as vDSR but still fun and requires coordination and learning mechs.

The quest sometimes felt pointless (run there, gather that, help that person, repeat), but also had some interesting and amusing parts, so those few hours to complete it were not terrible. Worth the full chapter price? I don't think so.

Think of Scribing the same way as Antiquities were to Greymoor. A draw, but not the main draw. Yes, it will prove powerful over time and will become more and more entrenched in the playstyle of the game overall, but right now, in its nascent phase, it is niche and can be beneficial, but isn't the end all, be all.

The zone itself is equal parts beautiful and tragic, evoking a warmth and nostalgia while also hiding a sinister undertone, and warning of roads not taken, either due to circumstance or interference from outside sources.

Gameplay wise, the delves, dungeons and trials are all steps forward. The quests have memorable moments and the returning NPC's are a treat.

When taken as part of the greater whole that is Necrom and Gold Road (much like Vvardenfell to Clockwork to Summerset) the story becomes more focused, and you can see the overarching theme with a better clarity.

In short, yeah, check it out. Scribing will be there when you are ready for it.

If you enjoyed Necrom and the Necrom story arc, you will enjoy Gold Road as the culmination of that arc. I found the quests to be enjoyable; the world bosses are way too busy for the most part, and whomever keeps designing forced boss invulnerability should find a new idea; the delves are pretty well laid out.

The zone is beautiful. The house you can buy for doing the quests is really nice. I know you said without scribing, but I have enjoyed scribing and the questline was overall pretty fun. I do not regret the purchase.

    Yes absolutely!

    - Story of gold road with the recollection was fantastic
    - Ithelia’s portion was pretty solid too
    - Side quests were phenomenal in my opinion
    - Overland content (delves, WBs, public dungeons) VERY enjoyable, varied and cool. Beautiful zone as well and interesting WBs
    - Mirrormore incursions are great and a big improvement from last year in my opinion
    - I thought the writing for the scribing quest line was phenomenal

    New sets are fine
    - Highland sentinel is a good parse set, but in practice since it makes you stand still, not very useful in content lol
    - Tank set from lucent citadel is replacing EC largely and is great
    - Healer set and damage dealer sets are not that great

Lots of achievements! I’m a completionist so I love this

Also, lots of skill styles to earn and collect which I enjoy. Sad to see this system will be monetized in the future but there will continue to be earnable styles released on top of purchasable ones at least

For what it's worth, the Scribing questline is not at all a grind like Psijic. If you don't care about story at all, it's closer to doing the Mages Guild or Fighters guild questlines. AND you only have to do the whole questline once (unlike Psijic). After that, any character you want to do Scribing with just has to do the 5-minute intro quest and unlock the Scripts they need over time (you only need the scripts for the skills you actually want to make).

Inks are currently dropping at a low rate and scheduled to be added to boss loot, but you get 12 ink just for doing the quests, which is enough for like 4 full skills. So far, I've only made one skill (and sold my ink to make $$$), and I've been enjoying it a lot.

The new skills also not meta for DPS, and still finding their niche in other areas.

I've also been enjoying the story quests and achievement rewards for West Weald, but Scribing was my favorite part so far. Not everyone liked it, particularly people who sometimes find quests confusing.

I'm sure it's not worth it even with scribing.

I would not pre-order anything again.

scribing itself isnt too bad, if you really dont have much interest in it then just complete the scribing questline with 1 character so you can at least get inks and scripts, and then passively build those up, theres no need to really go after it unless you want achievements or to actually utilize the system

overall for questing content and overland, i would say that was definitely enjoyable if your more interested in that

if your having doubts, then i would just wait till the sale, scribing is a big draw of it, but its not the primary focus, just a major new system

    Yes.

Ultimately, there is nothing released for Scribing that is knocking my socks off. No reason to change builds or even participate, other than to unlock via the quest. I love quests. I hated the Scribing unlock quest. I have not yet purchased Gold Road for XBox, where I spend most of my time these days, but when I do, I have no plans to unlock Scribing there. Annoying quest. Too grindy.

Overland quests and writing are about average, and I have completed that content. None of them really jump out at me as being exceptional, but none of them remind me of going to the dentist, either. Unlike the Scribing quest.

I like the new delves, and not all of them are just some wanderings through a cave.

I have done one of the two overland public dungeons, mainly because I have heard talk of bugs in the other one. I expect that will get fixed, if it is actually an issue.

World bosses are world bosses. I am not exactly pleased with the new focus on boss invulnerability while adds spawn in from portals that I have to close. If bosses can be invulnerable, then I should get the same. That said, all bosses are now dead, so it can't be all bad.

Visually, the zone team did well. Lots of fall color. Lots of detail. There are always places where they do questionable things, like stocking an Ayleid ruin that has not been opened in a millennia with contemporary material on the bookshelves. They should just not have books on those shelves.

To say that the Chapter is buggy is like saying water is wet. I think players generally expect to pack a can of Raid. :disappointed:

At this point I don't think it's worth the full price, the skills seems niche and I don't see myself replacing for one of those skills. Perhaps in the future once they added bunch more of them like Greymoor, it might be worth it. And by that time surely there's been sales/discount.
