A few opinions (5 or so) on the expansion! Curious to see if y'all agree/disagree:
1. I think the side quests have been the highlight of the West Weald zone itself - Mizzik Thunderboots & Fennorian (or however you spell his name, sorry) and the blood-wine vineyard side quests really come to mind here. I had a FANTASTIC time going through these. When I first started playing ESO way back when, I had the WoW mentality where you spam through all the quests just to get to endgame as fast as possible. I always urge new players now to PLEASE take your time. The voice-acting and stories that you'll experience are some of the best in the genre. I'd go so far as to say I enjoyed the side quests MUCH more than the main story.
2. I felt as though the main story was very, very predictable. I won't comment on what happens, but I think it was seen from a mile away what we were going to need to do from the start. I'm a HUGE fan of the multi-year story arc, especially being that we've lost that Q4 zone story (albeit the MMO player in me is extremely happy to see an ADDITIONAL system added each year outside of the main story). BUT, I felt like the story was rushed a bit. Great characters, excellent voice acting, not the best model for Ithelia, but all of that aside, I really enjoyed it. I AM starting to get slightly tired of the daedric end of the world scenario that we see year after year. It really is time in my opinion to go towards stories about the people of tamriel. I could've had the entire chapter be about the recollection, Dawnwood & Skingrad/its people and I think I would've enjoyed it even more - much more potentially. Especially being that technically every expac we've had has been occurring in the same year (2E 582 I believe?), this has been a year for the record books lol!
3. There have been lots of complaints about scribing in general - ink drop rates, grindiness on alts, etc. I agree with this! I think that boasting about 4000 combinations for scribing just to have such an EXTREMELY minimal drop chance on both resource gathering and monster killing is shooting yourself in the foot. Sure, we'll acquire these overtime, but people are genuinely excited to experiment right now and this drop chance is frankly making people scared to do so considering you earn 12 total after doing each wing in the scribing quest. Also, TAKE YOUR TIME on the questing for scribing in my opinion. The stories are frankly incredible. Again - I find these stories along the way to be much better than the main story even (again my opinion
)
4. Zone-wise this couldn't be more beautiful. I've always been partial to snowy zones in any game - probably why I'm such a Skyrim stan and was pulling for Winterhold so strongly this year, but guys on console (and gals), the zone is ridiculously beautiful. The vineyard aesthetic, mixed with bosmer antics, imperial architecture in skingrad, etc etc... is just incredible. Hugely awesome job to the team on this.
5. I'd like to talk now about gear sets - specifically those from the new trial, lucent citadel, as these are typically the most "exciting" POTENTIALLY. Outside of the tank set, they are all EXTREMELY underwhelming. We have so. many. sets. in this game. HUNDREDS of sets. The healer set gives everybody 1667 max mag and stam, persisting through death, which is virtually nothing from a max stats perspective AND from a boost to weapon/spell damage perspective, it gives you an additional roughly 158 from that bonus, again, virtually nothing (1667 / 10.54 = 158 ish). Why? I'm a healer main, at least have been for the past 6 mo or so and will continue to be through this update at the very least, and this is just so unappealing. There's no reason to just continue to add sets to the game that do literally nothing to excite the players or have them chase these items. We need to come up with something new for itemization, spice it up a bit, etc. Theres quite literally no reason for this set to be in the game in my opinion. The trial itself is INCREDIBLE and i've had a freakin' blast with it. But that's my criticism there.
Don't wanna go on and on here, but figured i'd give my 2 cents here for what it's worth. It's truly, from a story perspective, zone, system, collection, etc etc perspective, been one of, if not, my favorite expansions so far. Extremely excited for console folks to dive in!
