So if ive got this right. We need to have completed the necrom quests to start ithelias fury quest to get all the achivements for gold road. This is so disappointing having to buy necrom just to get the stuff I want from gold road. Is this correct?

I don't want necrom beacuse nothing interested me there. Gold road on the other hand have stuff that I want which is why I bought it. But to get those stuff I'm forced to buy necrom now which is very disappointing. Would have to buy it and even complete the quests for necrom just to get what I want from Gold Road. And we all know how cheap eso is

OH that's a bit mean. You buy a game (Gold Road) expecting to be able to play the story quest lines at least through to their conclusion, only to find out that you actually need to buy another game (Necrom) in order to complete it.

Wee bit cheeky there ZOS. I get not having access to new antiquities or card decks because you don't own the relevant chapters of Greymoor or High Isle, but to put story quests for the Gold Road chapter behind the Necrom chapter, is a bit naughty I think.

the only part that requires having both is the mini "epilogue" questline

the same principal was in play for every year long story as well (north/south elsweyr, western skyrim/the reach, high isle/galen, etc)

the epilogue questline is what essentially acts as a closer to the multi-chapter/dlc story to wrap everything up

I wanted to complete the Necrom Chapter I got all the way thru till I hit killing Vaermina, the last boss. I tried repeatedly until I was sick with aggravation. I stopped and won't go back. I think it very unfair to require the end of Necrom to do another chapter. This will be the last chapter I buy if this is the way it is going.

NOWHERE in all I read about Gold Road did it say I had to have completed Necrom to do Gold Road. Nor did I ever read the scribing would be virtually useless.

It sucks not to be able to complete and I won't put myself through the trouble. I'll just buy another game.

you dont need to do necrom to do gold road (west weald) story

you do need both necrom and west weald it to do the "epilogue" to wrap up the story from both chapters

thats how its been for every year long story even going back to vvardenfell (to get the epilogue for that story you needed vvardenfell + clockwork city + summerset, for elsweyr epilogue you needed north and south elsweyr, dark heart of skyrim epilogue was western skyrim + the reach, etc)

i would agree the vaermina fight was one of the more difficult story fights ive done, i think its the only one ive actually died at least once (not counting the high isle/galen ascendant lord mission where you had to outrun the lava)

It's not really the same though. All of your examples are related content, a DLC based off the back of a Chapter. Necrom and Gold Road are two completely different Chapters. As such they should be stand alone in their content imo.

It's true that this is the first time two different Chapters have funneled into the same epilogue quest chain, but it's also the first time since these epilogue/cap quests were introduced that we haven't had a Q4 story DLC to do that instead. The effect seems to be that the next story DLC (in this case, Gold Road) is replacing the old Q4 story DLC for this function. If they plan to continue that relationship, that'll be something to be aware of when purchasing content in the future.

The latter is only true for PC/Mac players. Necrom doesn't get de-Chapterfied into a plain old DLC until Gold Road launches, which is not for another 10 days on console, so console players will have about one day to get through Necrom if they are relying on the ESO+ free trial.

I don't think that's the case. In order to do the epilogue quest (Ithelia's Fury) in Gold Road, you needed to do both prologues, and both questlines - Necrom and West Weald - on the same character. But you can access scribing with just West Weald. On my newest account I didn't have Necrom until Gold Road came out, and those characters haven't done anything in Tel Pen or Necrom, but they're both able to start scribing by picking up the quest.

It is an AWFUL mechanic, and also buggy. DLCs should NOT be dependant on other DLCs, unless a firm is grabbing for money.

Even when you complete it, the flagging system they use is beyond buggy, meaning the main quest in Gold Road can bug out, leaving you with not quest, DESPITE completing all fo Necrom, and both the prologue for Necrom and Gold Road.

It is beyond a hideous mechanic. In all my years of gaming, I have never seen a firm stoop this low.

I read that scribing wasn't to improve number damage or anything like that, but it was to allow the players to make specific effects for their characters. Give the spells specific themes so to speak. It was not the intent to scribe more powerful spells than currently exist, as I understand it.

The epilogue quest is completed in a few minutes. Blink and you’ll miss. In fact not doing it will not adversely affect your enjoyment of Gold Road.

Scribing just allows a whole bunch of tailored spells whereby you can fill in any perceived gaps in terms of minor/majors, AoE, HoT, etc.

Plus you can colourise the effects so that your cobbled together skill bar can have more consistent colouring, thus enhancing self RP.

In terms of big DPS, heal gains no. But min/max champs like Skinny, Hack, Ned’s, etc will probably find ways and means lol for that extra 2%.

No “meat” from the latest Chapter is unavailable to players who’ve newly started and with minimal investment in just the new Chapter (plus the free old stuff). ZOS are not that dumb.

But ESO+ is free for a bit anyway for those who wish to get hooked into it - grind out as much as you want, just be quick about it.

For those unable to beat the final Necrom boss. General advice:

I did and I’m casual. You should have a highly levelled companion. Load it up with heals. On your back skill bar load up with heals and minor/majors but with the first slot as your best instant ranged skill. Front skill bar, long buffs and minor/majors. The first two slots will be your best melee skills or your lightning staff - players struggling are strongly advised to use a lightning staff - it’s the easy weapon.

Any tough boss - bow and lightning staff and strafe around the perimeter and move move move. Always heal as top priority and take the fight slow - ESO bosses like this never have rage timers. Your Q key should have an Insta heal and use it often.

If the boss seems to have a circular cage/barrier at times then it’s probably immune to damage. So heal. Also if you see extra spawns, try killing them first, especially if they are moving (always slowly) towards a boss (coz that means they will heal/buff the boss - standard MMORPG mechanic).

Honestly, end zone bosses are designed to be easily beatable if you basically organise. DM me if you are still stuck. I’m only casual but I’m happy to help. Not long ago I struggled too. Mainly due to lousy skill choices.
