Haven't played since ESO launch

Hi!

I haven't played ESO since launch, so basically I know nothing of what's new over the years. I am looking to get back into it, with buying the new expansions collection pack, so I get all the previous expansions too.

It seems overwhelming, I logged in just to see on my old character, and all these new zones, where do I start? etc etc and I'm unsure whether to buy it or not because of this overwhelming. If I create a new character, do I just start in the new chapter, as I want to be with everyone.

Also I am looking to play a dragonknight this time, as on launch I played sorcerer, are they fun?

DK is S tier in PVP atm. Might even be S+.

There has been lots added. But with One Tamerial you can easily play in new zone. There are probably things other than scribing I would start with. Gathering will get you pretty decent gold. Also do daily dungeon every day to build up transmutes (transmutation another extremely important addition ... do it because it will let you change traits on BOP & BOE gear. Lots and lots of craftable sets too. Join a trade guild because most have guild house with all craft stations. Plus it's a place to sell items.

    Thanks for replying!

So if I start a new character, skip the training thing at the start, it will put me in the new chapter?

It should, but even if it doesn't, you can go there (or to any other place you want to start at). Since One Tamriel, you can go to any zone to quest. It's a bit overwhelming if you are coming back to so much content, but take your time and do what you feel like!

I wouldn't start in the new chapter's main quest (Gold Road), as the plot is a direct sequel to Telvanni Peninsula/Necrom questline, and starts out with major spoilers for that. So the good news is, you can do Telvanni and then Gold Road without having to wait a year for the whole story like a lot of us lol! You can accept the prologue quest for Necrom from the Crown Store (Eyes of Fate).

    So my suggestion:
    • Necrom prologue: Eyes of Fate (Crown Store, free)
    • Necrom/Telvanni Peninsula main quest
    • Gold Road prologue: Prisoner of Fate (Crown Store, free)
    • Gold Road main quest (West Weald)

But there's so much to explore, so enjoy! Remember to feed your horse at the stables lol.

If you want something fun and new, check out the Scribing questline where you can craft cool skills--it starts at Adept Irnard Rirnil outside many Mages Guilds (Skingrad, Wayrest, Shornhelm): 6ilpoce57ymg.jpg

Scribing isn't connected to the other skill lines. It's a cool questline tho.

I recommend doing the tutorial at the start just because you get one extra skill point for doing it, though I'm not sure if they fixed this and give it to you when you skip it now. For a long time, you would miss out on a skill point if you skipped the tutorial.

I would also recommend just starting in which ever zone attracts you the most, you can do it in any order, though there is a chronological order to do them in if you're wanting the roleplay side of things.

You'll find that there are people in all the zones, so you don't have to worry about not being where people are, we're everywhere.

Take it slow and don't overwhelm yourself by trying to do too much too quickly.

If there is one thing you should start right away, it would be researching gear traits, as this becomes very important to know all of them by late game.

    [Edit]

    The chronological order is:

Base game faction zones (They all happen at the same time, but also the older content so it's fine to skip)
Coldharbour closes off the faction zone stories.

    Imperial City
    Wrothgar
    Hew's Bane
    Gold Coast
    Vvardenfell
    Clockwork City
    Summerset
    Murkmire
    Elsweyr North
    Elsweyr South
    Western Skyrim
    The Reach
    Blackwood
    Deadlands
    High Isle
    Galen
    Telvanni Peninsula

    And finally

    West Weald

I'd second this, but honestly, I'd start at the very beginning. Do your factions story, main quest line along the way, then do cadwells Silver and cadwells gold, then do imperial city and work down the list from there. You've got about 3000 hours of content ahead of you, get going!

I certainly wouldn't start in Gold Road for the reason already given, but I also wouldn't start with Necrom either as the zone questline ends with a world boss level fight that you have to solo with the result that a new player with a low level character will be totally turned off. So pick an alliance and start with their base zone progression.

Above all, just take your time and don't listen to a lot of doomsayers and streamers, just play in your own way and at your own pace. ESO is best played for the journey and not the destination. New players often come here for advice when they've played for 3 or 4 weeks and are already level 50 with 200 champion points, and we never hear from them again. They've burnt out more or less before they've started!

personally i found the base zones to be the most rewarding to play since the landscape and environment changes as you complete quests. later in development they found this approach too difficult to maintain due to players being out of sync with each other, but it always felt good to see a previously hostile area become safe.
It actually made it feel like I was having an impact and making the world a better place.

Don't think of it this way, it's actually quite annoying to be doing a quest in a new zone, getting into the story, and then 10 people smash through the boss you were about to fight, completely killing the mood.

This can still happen in older zones, it's just not as common to see people rushing through it like they do the new content.

    [Edit]

It's for this reason I usually wait a month before starting the new zone's main quest line.

Well there are no leveled zones anymore. It's a lot easier, your builds matter a lot less, and it would probably take you a whole year to catch up on contents. And the Alliance war and Planemeld are basically forgotten at this point. Oh I forgot they turned Summerset Isle into a giant melting pot. Anyone and their dog can go there.

    That's your summary.

The prologues are free for everyone! They're under "Quest Starters". They usually introduce something important for the main quest.
