Apparently unable to access the merrywine estate without the DLC gold road

okay, so i was chatting with a friend, and i invited him to visit my merrywine estate to see what i started to do with it. And then, my friend tells me "hey, i apparently can't access it without gold road. The error message tells me to update my game to gold road"
I sincerely hope this is a bug and not intended because we should not have to pay 40€ just to visit the house of a friend.
