We need more time for character creation

The logout timer in the character creation routine doesn’t give enough time.

Long ago we could spend as much time as we wanted fine tuning the appearance of new characters, or editing existing ones.

Then something changed a few years ago and now we only have a few minutes before timing out and getting kicked to login.

This has been brought up a lot, by many people, and to my knowledge we’ve never seen a response from Zeni. @ZOS_Kevin can you give us any insight and pass along the feedback? It’s the primary reason I haven’t created a new toon for Gold Road.

We also need an hour grace period where we can actually see our characters in the world and make any adjustments we need, because we all know that our characters always look different in the world than in the creation screen.

Aaand that I don't understand these years what I playing. Why? Why tjey look different. Like there are different models in character creation than in the game. Many times I had problems with characters.
    Really sorry for my english

We also need a way to save and edit character pre-sets so that we can work on making a character and save the appearance without having to create it as playable yet. So many games have a system like this, and ESO really should too, especially since it has a fairly detailed character creator.

It's so irritating to loose a character appearance just because you got up for two seconds.

    Legends never die
    They're written down in eternity
But you'll never see the price it costs
The scars collected all their lives
When everything's lost, they pick up their hearts and avenge defeat
Before it all starts, they suffer through harm just to touch a dream
    Oh, pick yourself up, 'cause

I think it's the inactivity timer that kicks you out of the character creation screen. You aren't really logged in but are in between. And yes it's not enough time. I don't have a problem with the character looking different, but I spend a lot of time on the sliders and zoom in and out over and over. I have run out of time with the last three toons I created.

I agree, simply having an row of numbers you could paste would work well enough.
Grinding just make you go in circles.

The timer is for inactivity, same as it’s always been. If I need time, to find a suitable alternative name, for instance, I occasionally rotate the character, switch between the tabs, etc.

That would be awesome! Not to mention, how they sound, for as much as you try to sample, it’s different hearing the voice in different activities. As it is, I expect to have to recreate a character AT LEAST once.

There's always been a timer. You just have to toggle a setting back and forth reset it. It's part of why I come up with all my names ahead of time : p

There hasn’t always been a timer. Or if there was it was 30 minutes or longer, because I easily took that long messing around with my older characters while in Teamspeak. That’s how long ago it was.

Now even if actively working on the setting you get booted for “inactivity” in under 5 min.

Indeed, the character creator is awful. The ability to actually see how your character looks under different times of day etc. would be nice too. Even FFXIV has that.

    Winner.

It's the audio/voices that plague me, too.
The samples are really poor representations.

I do my own - get the look right, print-screen the sliders, save them to file, as for instance "redguard female", "breton female" etc.

I also have names ahead of time, because I can't NOT keep coming up with names, and they generally are attached to pretty fully fleshed-out characters....

This would be an excellent solution. Or, as suggested above, give us a lighting control inside the character creation screen.
I have an ethereal crown of three spirit crows:
    - On top is Grandfather spouting words of wisdom.
    - On the left is Empathy who is rather naive.
    - On the right is Ego who is rather greedy.

On PC I have full preset through screenshots in folders with names for every character what I made (and delete).
If I want to recreate, just alt-tabbing screenshot - game

I've had to constantly just hit up and down on menus to keep it "active". It's the worst when trying to pick names when your ideas were taken.

100% this or lighting adjustment. I made what I thought was a blue Argonian once and in game she was just grey :(

I use a similar method-I create on the test server, tweak and refine them using the free character changes on there, then screenshot them.

When it's time to create them on the live server, I use a program called "on top replica" which let's me lay a slightly transparent, click-through version of the screen shot over the game. Then I can duplicate the somewhat tough "triangle sliders" for body and face shapes exactly.

I've got a huge backlog of screenshots and names too. My brain never stops coming up with new characters I need to play xD

Eh - I write.... milllions of words since I was a child. Yeah, none of it's really publishable (well, one multi book series might be, if I live that long....) - one of the things I NEVER have problems with is characters. I can come up with a character for any perceived need, doesn't even take very long. That includes name, description, family and background, and how s/he fits into whichever fiction is in play (which yes, includes TES - Oblivion and Skyrim, and ESO).

And yes.... right now I've got 16 characters waiting for me to (grudgingly) spend the money on slots so I can make and play them. They aren't exactly happy about the delay....

What platform? I’m on PC NA and recreated one of my characters recently, as within the past few weeks, and I’ve never created a character under 5 minutes, I can assure you.

^ This right here. However, if they would simply just put natural outdoor lighting on the creation screen this would be less of an issue. I don't know why they put in uncommon, colored lighting for a customization screen.

Furthermore, the voice sampler is garbage. We should be able to sample all noises instead of it playing a random selection over and over.

Agree. The hubby created a female high elf templar character and when using one of her skills she quacks like a duck. He’s going to need to buy an appearance change token just for the voice now, I guess.

What makes it worse is that there are always a few sounds that seem somehow off. I had the same problem with several different voice types.
