[REQUEST] Companions need to learn to bash their target

I don't expect my companion to run around and bash all mobs channelling attacks. But at least bash and interrupt their own target. That should not be too difficult to do. It is ok if some delay between beginning of channelling and bash is there but then the blindest companion should realize that the target has to be interrupted.

If there's going to be any mods to companions I'd prefer ZoS to start with the fact that this is an MMO and recognize that there are other players involved who do not care for the intervention of your uncontrolled companion.

In particular, if I'm soloing a WB and you join in with your companion then go ahead, but please do not let your zombie companion pull the boss out of my AoEs.

At the very least activate the chaining synergy when the boss is standing right next to my standard :)

Aggro and movement are also an issue solo with a companion. My Azandar is specced as a healer, but somehow he always grabs aggro immediately and does his double roll dodge out to eternity. I’m here doing 60k+ on a Crag rift boss, and I get ignored until 10-15 seconds into the fight while they chase my companion, who definitely has no taunt. If I want aggro at the start so he doesn’t move the boss out of my own AoEs, I need to have a taunt myself.

This is not just a matter of not letting them do this. Companion aggro when not actually taunting needs to be looked at in general.

I suggest to open a dedicated thread where you can describe in all length how a companion should work with respect to taunting and aggro.

This thread is about the companion missing out too often when the companion's target is channelling an attack.

I use Mirri as a tank. When soloing WBs or normal dungeons she holds bosses pretty well. I've seen her bash-interrupt the boss many times. She's not totally reliable but I'd say she interrupts about half the time.

Yeah, I was going to say; my companion with a sword+shield bashes her target all the time and there is clearly some "behavior" type thing set to companion gear/weapon types.

I'm thinking Ember isn't going to need to do much bashing since she dive/rolls away from any attacker.

It's all dependent on what you have them spec'd. If they are ranged, they are going to focus on moving away from an enemy that's in their face... but if they're set for melee, they will bash. I have Sharp as 2H, and I've seen him bash targets when they try to cast. Any you have set as tank will also bash to interrupt... but I think it's on a timer, so they won't bash repeatedly.

It's time some of this much-flaunted AI was injected into our companions. Imagine being able to chat with them like Chat GPT, explain to them what to do like you would a player and they actually remembered it and understood mechanics. I have seen demos of this being done but not in ESO, it is coming, would be pretty cool.

Rule #1 of companion use: Don't.

Honestly do not see the point of them. I have all 6 max levelled, max rapport, all skill lines.

There's one synergy and no buffs.

Even with an improved AI, I don't see the pros outweighing the cons - especially once you get above 1000 CP.

they know how to block, rolldodge, bash and don't stay in AOEs, but they are nerfed with large cooldowns so they look dumb and most times useless, because if they werent nerfed like that, people would less likely have to meet with random people for content. They could even tank vet DLC dungeons without risk.

It works that way already. Just give them s&b.
I tested 6 companions in different roles. Every companion bashes their target when it is neccessary, if wears shield and 1-handed. I must say they do it not perfect, but good enough.
If you want them interrupt while they play dd or healer... it is not their duty, to be honest.
