I like to take my own sweet time exploring a new area, particularly now that the amount of content has been reduced so much.

I'll wander around the new zone, pick up some side quests, do some fishing, find all the wayshrines...

No need to hurry, it will all be over too soon in any case :(

I have before but not this time- I'm just as excited but haven't got much PTO left. I do have 2 days Tuesday and Wednesday though. I find it can be too busy sometimes on launch to enjoy fully anyway and prefer when it calms down a lot. This time with having to do scribing before 1st July to get the dual mount (and having no clue where to start that) I feel a bit of pressure to get going with it though but I don't want to ruin the storyline while doing that either.

Hell no, the ye olde first rule of online gaming, as discovered etched into mysterious stone tablets during the paleolithic era is "never expect to play on patch day".

I look forward to Gold Coast and I will definitely try to play a bit, but I am not really expecting to finish a quest, and neither will I plan any dungeons, group activities, roleplay adventures or anything depending on multiple people being able to log in on a patch day. :D

No, my schedule won't allow for that. Between having a newborn and leading an international project at work, that just can't happen.

And even if it did, I don't know that it'd be worth it. I'd be disappointed to take time off only for a rocky launch. Plus, I don’t feel like the rewards are really worth it until the zone event a few months after release.

I usually take a break with ESO for 3-7 days. Safety reason.
The game may work stable after such a major update. But also may not.

Like a few others I am retired so I can set my own schedule.

However, I plan to wait a while before starting any quests so the bugs can be worked out. I would hate to get stuck and have to wait for another patch.

I am surprised to see how many others wait so it’s not so crowded. It would be nice if we could get solo quests for the storyline like the Harbourage quests.

I have to wait another two weeks for it to drop on console.

No, because sadly I can play all day.

But I do prepare for the expansion launch, gathered some transmutes and stocked up on low supplies. And try to finish some other things so I can skip those for a while, leads and such. PC EU

Have also started on PC NA during the last explorer's event, so made sure to have a level 30 there so I can get the scribing mount. And am also glad we'll get the 100k gold daily login reward this month.

Never have, never will. RL takes priority in my world, especially as of late. Given the current issues with the servers, combined with the standard issues and overpopulation after the launch of a new chapter, I might not play for the entire month of June...I'll log in for the daily rewards and the hireling deliveries, but that's pretty much it. Consulting attracts a certain kind of person. I was raised to work hard, and getting a taste of success made me thirsty. Thankfully I am at a company that rewards and encourages ambition. My current project will land me in sr. Management positions, so I’m dedicated to making that happen. Kids aint cheap.

In my sphere, most people are motivated by the want to leave something immaterial behind for mankind, to preserve and spread culture, or to build and establish knowledge (while being fascinated by the topic themselves - so, yeah, it's certainly not pure altruism). I'm a historian, among my friends, I have an archeologist, a conservator of historic musical instruments, a few teachers, a bookseller, and one organizes concerts. There's not much to earn in ranks or wealth, but then again, no one of us is interested in having kids, and most lead a rather modest lifestyle anyway (not because they couldn't afford, but because they don't feel a need for luxury). That's probably also a side-effect of being very immersed with other things. Anyway, everyone enjoys their work, most doesn't strictly limit themselves to working hours but also continue their projects in what would officially be freetime; and never seeing work as a burden, but actually as an enjoyment is a big plus, too.

We can enjoy work and play time both. We don't have to choose one or the other.

I see nothing wrong with taking some earned vacation time to enjoy new content in a game we play for fun and relaxation.

No, I already finished the main quest on PTS (when it is very very quiet) so I already saw most stuff. So there is no pressure.

I will rush through that quest again on launch evening and camp some word bosses with the crowds.

I work at home for 99 percent some when I big game release comes out I sometimes plan ahead so I can take work a bit easier that day :D

I don't have a wife and kids (thank god) and my partner is a gamer too so he understands when I am gaming in the evening when something new is out. He is usually playing something too then.

Never. For any game. There's always problems. I get a laugh at the forums as people rage about having taken off and the game is a buggy mess then they have to do maintenance for hours on end to fix it LOL.

I have a different approach: I want the new content to last as long as possible. I generally don't touch the new content on the first days, to stay out of the population overload. When things calm down a bit, I slowly start discovery, little by little, aside of my usual activities. This has also the advantage that if there are troubles and bugs, they get fixed before I start it.

I have the experience of my main game: lot of players know long in advance the upcoming content and prepare for it during the weeks before it comes, doing everything that is possible for it. On day it starts, they rush at doing the content. 3 or 4 days later, they proudly claim to have everything done and the day after, start complaining they want new content...

Each is free to play the way he/she wants. Am personally part of a minority who likes surprises, discovery and new content lasting for a long time. I feel no hurry. My well known laziness is supporting this approach of course... o:)

I'm out of my mind, feel free to leave a message... PC/NA

yes in my country we do believe in pursuit of activities which you personally want to cultivate. it is not considered wrong or a detachment from the life or family, but to add to enjoyment of life.

the family themself at this time will also be pursuing a goal for themselves, so it is understood when you take time for yourself, then it is yours.

my sons are allowed to get lego kits they will spend their vacation building, so their father (me) will allow himself to game, my wife wants to spend time painting. we get together in evening to discuss these pursuits or show progress on a goal we wanted. and have lunches and meals together.

preparing meals and chores is between all of us in this time. this is our family tradition. to cook meals together and do chores together, not only make one person work. this way, my sons learn important life tasks and responsibility in addition to cultivate their own pursuits.

but we let each other have independence for cultivation of staying on task without parents over the shoulder. for the children this is important. they learn to stay on task with the lego kit they like, and to research if the kit becomes hard. they develop a personal pride in completion of tasks without being asked by a parent to finish.

for my wife it is important she finds joy in her creative time. for me it is important to de-stress and have fun in gaming.

also, family members do not expect you to use your vacation time to visit them in my country, they expect you to rest. regular weekends are for family.

Time flies like an arrow- but fruit flies like a banana.

Sorry for my English, I do not always have a translation tool available. Thank you for your patience with our conversation and working towards our mutual understanding of the topic.

Haven't played a game "on launch" since DVDs stopped being a thing and downloading huge day1 patches became the norm.
Launches usually are buggy, no point in wasting a day off waiting for a hotfix, or extended downtime, or both.

A MMO also suffers from other players intruding in your solo story experience (still have PTSD from that moment in Morrowind where Veya found her brother and all I saw was dozens of bear butts.)

In general, I wait at least half a year with single player games, as they age like wine, while mmos are more erratic, and don't always change for "the better", so before major updates I try to finish all I want to do...

I don't because I don't trust the new content to have been patched sufficiently at launch. I generally try to wait at least until the Quakecon Sale. that way I can get it cheap after some time of additional patches and there's still enough time left until the obligatory chapter celebration event to allow me to do everything without needing to rush.

If I was taking time off for the expansion it definitely wouldn't be tomorrow. For one thing I'm in Europe so the patch isn't due to be done until the afternoon anyway, and will almost certainly get extended. But I think if I wanted to take time off to actually get to play I'd schedule it for the week after at the earliest, when there's been time for hot fixes and additional updates and bug fixes.
