Returning player in 2024, have some questions

Hello I've recently taken hiatus for a while and looking to get back for the Gold Road and have some questions
  1. Is ESO content update plan still the same for 2024 and onwards? ie. 1 chapter every year, and some DLCs
  2. I have googled somewhere that it seems we don't get 2 companions when Gold Road launch, but it will be on Q4. Will it be a separate purchase required?
  3. I've watched the video of Scribing, feel underwhelmed. I think because there isn't much grimoires (base). Just 11 or sth. Is this is something that they'll keep adding in future chapters expansions like Companions

Thanks

1: no, it's 1 chapter, 1 dungons, and then 2 "things" (last year it was a huge bug fix patch and an infinte arena as the "things)

2: no idea, they never done anything like this before and nobody is from the future yet

3: that's not a question, but as it stands scribing is as close to spell crafting as we're going to get, 11 base skills, each with 8 versions, which inturn can also have 8 modifers stacked on them..and then 8 misc effects, so there's a lot to play with, if you're willing to put in the effort

    So 2024, and 2025 = 1 chapter, 1 dungons, and then 2 "things" ?

Also, when Gold Road release how much the Arcanist costs in Crowns

Hi! First of all, welcome back! :D Glad for you to be coming back around this time - Gold Road looks pretty incredible (at least to me) and I'm extremely excited for everything else that this year brings. To answer your questions:

    1) It's a bit different than it used to be. Previously it followed a structure like:

    Q1 - Dungeon DLC
    Q2 - Chapter
    Q3 - Dungeon DLC
    Q4 - Zone DLC

NOW - it is like this:

    Q1 - Dungeon DLC
    Q2 - Chapter
Q3 - QOL (quality of life) changes & bug fixes - this year we're seeing a new housing QOL feature
Q4 - A "systems" update (last year we got Infinite Archive, this year it's a PvP new system!)

    2) Everything in Q4 is free from now on according to ZOS - all systems are supposedly base game. I assume this will include the companions. Usually they're part of the package of a chapter, but being that they are separate, and they're being shipped in a "free" content update, I'd assume they're free, but ZOS hasn't outright said this.

    3) They had to start with something and this system will be expanding 100%. Currently there are 11 base abilities (grimoires), but if you include all customizations, there's over 4000 options. It's the spiritual precursor to spellcrafting in their words. Really cool system that is bringing numerous new abilities, that are customizable to all classes, and that will be able to fill in some of the holes that some of the weaker class/role combos currently have. I for one am extremely excited for it! I think once you get your hands on it you may form a different opinion.

Again, hope you have a good time now that you're back! If you play on PC, feel free to message me if you need anything/help! Cheers!

Not to hijack the thread but I am also a returning player that hasn't done anything in Necrom. Do I need to do some of the main story in Necrom before I start Gold Road? Thanks.

You might want to, so things make some sort of sense. Or you might do some research online, and see if that fills in the background.

Starting with Necrom, they've sort of gone back to the "longer story arcs" situation from years back - similar to the Daedric War Arc (Morrowind, CWC, Summerset).

So this year's chapter picks up where Necrom left off (cliffhanger-ish). I'm unsure at this point if the current "arc" will encompass more than the upcoming chapter or not. Someone else may have more info (I try not to "spoil" myself so I just don't pay too much attention to stuff on the forum....)
