I'd like to have an AI assistant in ESO...

..to decorate my houses. I see so many great ESO home interiors on YouTube, but my creativity is no match for those people. Yet I'd like to have something better to look at than mostly bare walls and floors, with some storage units, my banker assistant, and maybe a few odds and ends I've quickly thrown together in some of the homes I own.

It'd be great to have an AI assistant that can just take a few suggestions, give me several proposed designs, with a shopping list of needed (and already available) furnishings, from which I can make changes, finalize, and then proceed to have implemented. It'd be so cool. I could tell the assistant what style I want, how big my budget is, what kind of feel I'm shooting for, etc. I wouldn't mind paying a good amount of crowns for such an assistant either. Say 10K crowns?

What do you all think? This popped into my head as I was working on my newly acquired Hall of the Lunar Champion, and after I'd hear a good podcast yesterday, in which the hosts discussed OpenAI's new GPT-4o (the "o" stands for "omni." This means that, in addition to taking text inputs, it can also natively understand audio and image inputs—and it can reply with any combination of text, images, and audio).

I think this would be a huge undertaking and resource drain if it's even possible at all.

However there are players you can hire to do just that. I'm not sure how much they charge but they do exactly what you are asking for.

You can ask another player to decorate your house. You need to provide the furnishings, but they can place them or advise you on the placement, and recommend furnishings to get. You could even do it collaboratively so you can learn from them as you're going along.

Regardless of my personal need for an AI assistant (none - I do my own decorating), I just think the harsh reality is that we're down to essentially one major feature and one serious content-release per year... we're continuing to see cutbacks (like with the mail and trader listing timers)... I don't believe they have the resources to undertake something like this, and imo what resources they do have should go into adding actual content / fixing, polishing, and balancing existing content.

I'm not trying to say the idea is *bad* mind you, just that there's a whole backlog of features / content / bugs to be worked on with what seems like very limited resources and I personally don't want to see them get sidetracked by what seems like a rather large and rather tangential side project.

I totally agree, it's not something we'll see ..ever. It's an idle wish, for an ideal (IMO) ESO. But I do like seeing the changes AI tech is bringing. Some view the changes as threats (e.g. the new Google Search "AI Overview"). But for me, beside playing (too much) ESO, I like to tinker with new tech toys, and I think that we're in for some fascinating times.

Agree. It would be a significant AI. Hundred or thousandfold more than any AI in this game and probably any MMORPG.

I expect there are players one can pay to decorate the home. It would just need to give them permission to handle decorations. They cannot take anything out of the house.

I'm.... not a great decorator. Or a great player....

Sorry. AI - just seems like at this point in time, a ticking bomb.

we are getting scribing, a housing feature, and a pvp feature so no not one major feature.
and update 43 still focuses on bug fixes like 39 did.

i doubt we'll ever get an ai assistant like suggested in this post, but the housing or zone devs could possibly showcase how they decorate/design furnished homes and the game's countless zone environments.

Something like that might inspire people who are new to housing.

They could name it Housenet. At some point it could determine that players are not using their AI decorated houses efficiently and “terminate” their access to the house. 🤖.

Seriously, I like the idea. But like others have said it may be too complex an undertaking for this game. I would also like for the companions to be further along on the AI scale.

I see housing and decorating as a creative release and a way to put ourselves into our home and make it our own. Having an NPC do it for us defeats that purpose.

Maybe it won't be a ZOS feature. I can imagine a near future in which OpenAi, Google, Anthropic, Amazon, or Meta will provide such an AI assistant - for a subscription fee, of course. This digital assistant will be able to access text, images, audio, and video, whether directly from our desktop PC, Mac, game console, or smartphone. It will also be able to access game and other software APIs, and therefore get all the inputs we'd want to give it. We can then prompt it (Her?) to give us what we want, whether it's a video presentation for work, a music composition, a poem, a Tiktok post - or a proposal for a house design in ESO.

Currently addons can do crazy things with ESO and give players much wanted QOL enhancements. I don't see why, hopefully soon, I can't bring a smart, personalized AI assistant to my game as well. :-)

I often help people to decorate their homes, I never charge and often supply significant amounts of furniture.

I enjoy a challenge with decorating and am continuously testing myself to think outside the box, whether it's my own or another players house doesn't matter, it's my happy place!

I can take months to finish my personal builds but try to be faster if helping somebody.

AI assistance would probably just annoy me! :D
