Wifi internet tip! I wanted to Share to fight Lag

So, i have a PC and rarely ever have Internet issues. I have ATT Wi-Fi and it has always been really good. When I moved a few weeks ago my internet playing ESO went to Crap and I could not figure out why because my Phone was lightning fast, and my TV had no issues either. I use Wi-Fi for my TV. I did some research and literally am so excited I have figured out the problem and have had NO Issues since.

It was 1 simple thing and i feel so stupid i did not even think about this. When i moved I placed my ATT Router on the Floor instead of a Table like my old house. It just so happens at my old Place my Router Sat on my Work Desk. My new Place it is halfway on the other side of my place, so I sat it on the Floor.

The FLOOR was the Problem 100% I have a PC with a Tower and for some reason having my Router on the floor does not allow the Wi-Fi Signal to properly dome my place and my Tower Struggles to grab the signal. Once i put my ATT Router on a Table Boom! Problem resolved.

i am at 100/80 and can-do Trials again with No lag and everything. So, i wanted to pass that along to anyone who has Lag issues. Raise your Router off the floor and put it on a Table and that could help resolve some problems.

Cheers!

Another solution is to use a wired connection. Even those of us who use a hardwired connection still suffer significant, frequent lag though. Most lag issues in ESO are server side, not client side.

Wires aren't always possible. If I were to move my desk if need to run ethernet along the ceiling through 3/4 of my house in order to get a wired connection.

You want wifi high up,and antennas angled correctly. On floor or in a corner surrounded by things means obsticles are blocking signals.I have mine mounted on wall(mounted sideways)with antennas pointing straight up and down.We get great signal even outside 200 ft away.
Also you can get a free wifi analyzer on phone and check for other wifi in area, and make sure the channel is on best one possible with least amount of ppl on it. 2.4ghz - 1,6,11...5ghz - 36,40,44,48...6ghz - 37,69,117,181, 213.Lots of guides with more details/options

I installed an Ethernet in most of my house when we moved in 23 years ago. It was a bit of crawling around. The key was planning the layout ahead of time such that I could use existing electrical and coax runs to find the interior walls I needed for the new Ethernet junction boxes and wall plates. It also allowed me to minimize the number of runs I needed. To wire three rooms on the first floor took me a couple of unrushed hours. To get to my second floor media and bonus room about another hour and a half. Even had it taken longer I think the time spent was well worth the performance improvements over wireless.

I love Ethernet and will always Take Ethernet over WI-FI but i must say ATT Fiber Optics is insanely fast and have had no issues since putting my Router on a table. The advancements in WIFI from 20 years ago are incredible... 100% Agree though if you're building without a doubt Wire Ethernet with multiple locations.

I wish I'd been able to do the same in 1985. But at that time, this area was.... "internet ignorant". So yeah.... I'm limited by HughesNet satellite. And actually, this area is STILL "internet ignorant".

Sucks, to be perfectly honest. I do run HughesNet on 5g over my dish, but even with the 2.5gb boosted modem it's not ideal.

    Ethernet for ever!

Even if it means some efforts due to routing of the cable, no way I would play wifi.

My wifi is reliable enough, and it's a LOT faster than any ethernet internet I can get here. Our national broadband network (Australia) is an exemplar of how NOT to do national broadband networks.

If Wifi isn't working due to obstacles like thick concrete walls, or if you get a lot of interference and connecting via ethernet directly isn't feasible, you can always try dLan/Magic/Powerline. I used it for many years in my old apartment and I was quite satisfied with that.

As getting a cable anywhere near my house isn't really an option, I'm using WiFi too. I had an Ethernet connection in my old apartment and so far I have not noticed any big difference between the two.

Another option is a Powerline adapter that you can use to run a short cable from the router to the "input" adapter, and a short cable from the "output" adapter to your computer, using the electrical wiring for almost ethernet-like latency. Although this depends on how the house is wired.

Both electrical outlets need to be on the same circuit. Chances are, the further you are from your router, the less likely this is to be the case, and if you are relatively close you might as well do what it takes to hardwire directly to your router.

WiFi needs to be at least the level of the devices that are connecting. Also, on the floor causes Multipath that makes it harder for the AP to do it's job.

Finally at a new location are there other APs in other people's homes interfering. Most APs can Auto Switch channels, but that function is sometimes turned off or not present.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Not true! Wires are always possible, unless you rent, then probably not. But if you own, get out there with some tools and wire it up! I have pro grade cat7 cables running through my walls. Why? Because I apparently live in a faraday cage. The best and fastest meshes struggle to cover my home. But I'm good now, all thanks to a Black Friday Netgear switch and a giant box of bulk cable. I highly recommend for anyone with a free weekend.
