Connecting the Servers

Are yall ever going to connect the EU and NA servers so stuff can be moved from one to the other? A lot of us have characters and things on both but for reasons no longer play on one of the servers. Also you have people moving between NA and Europe.

I started playing on EU also (I live in the US) due to a friend in England who now no longer plays and may not ever again because she just had a baby. I'm no longer wanting to split my time between the servers but have a lot of cool stuff on EU that I don't have on NA. My cousin moved to Spain a month ago for his job and now he's stuck with high ping on NA or losing everything and having to start over on EU. We're hardly the only players in similar situations too.

Being able to merge the things from one server to the other would be awesome.

Unlikely. Too big a hit to cash flow. I personally prefer having them separate so I can have my multitude of alts on 3 accounts.

PC NA, PC EU (non steam)- four accounts, many alts....

I agree that account wide items should be unlocked on both servers. I am in the UK but play on NA and knowing I don't have anything unlocked if I go on EU server has stopped me ever even trying to log onto it. Better to make an alt account on NA then i can at least use it for storage lol.

I do not have issues with a high ping rate though and my ping rate is the same regardless of if I'm on my account that is through Steam and my account where i just use the launcher to log in. I have previously had latency issues in another MMO when I played on US server but I have never had that problem in ESO.

You still could. What I'm asking for is the ability to merge the chars and items if we wanted to. Basically moving them from one server to the other.

And yeah I also think anything accountwide should be cross server for when you want to keep characters on both.

Transferring characters and items would run into the same issue that they cite for why characters and accounts cannot be moved between platforms.

They don’t have the tool to move existing data from one megaserver to another now that they’re all populated, and they have no plans to build it. That prevents characters and items from being moved between platforms when people want to switch, but the NA and EU megaservers are distinct even within the same platform, so the limitation applies to that situation too.

This is also why they have to do completely separate copies of PC-NA and PC-EU for the PTS. They cannot coexist or be merged with the current tools. And when the PTS went live, it only impacted NA, not EU, because the databases are separate.

The issue of entitlements applying to both servers is a separate one, though. There I’d agree they would have do more work on their end to lose money down the line.

This has been raised here so many times, and each time it's been made clear based on answers provided by ZOS that it cannot happen. Anyone in doubt as to the mishaps that could occur if it was attempted 10 years after the separate server structures were developed really just needs to remember what happened when the PTS and PC NA servers were inadvertently synchronised just recently. If there was a one percent chance of it being enabled before that debacle, it is surely a zero percent chance now!

It's unfortunate that zos won't do this. It can be done because FFXIV has all servers regardless of location linked. You can transfer between any of them so clearly it's possible. It may not be easy but that doesn't mean it can't be done at all.

So you're saying FFXIV has high quality servers and ESO has poor ones, hence it can't be done?

I'd like for them to do it but they can't even fix the stuck in combat bug so I don't think their technical expertise would allow them to merge servers.

No, I'm saying the two games were designed differently, as were their server structures (for example, I'm not aware that FFXIV runs on megaservers). Of course if you change the server structures, server coding and rewrite the game engine then
anything is theoretically possible, but simply saying that because one game works in a particular way it follows that another game could work the same way is way off the mark.

ZoS has consistently answered questions about server transfers, merges, cross-play / save, etc., by saying basically that the game's server structure wasn't designed with transfers between servers in mind; and there would be various technical hurdles to overcome; and there aren't currently plans to address this.

Does it hurt to ask? No! But I haven't seen any indication that these answers have changed and I wouldn't get my hopes up.
