[Suggestion] Quality of life Improvement - Master Writs

Good morrow everyone,

Let me start by prefacing this that this is MOSTLY for console player benefit (As pc has addons for this):

Master Writs: Console players have no kind of motif trackers other than a limited selection of achievement lists. Doing master writs on PC have a wonderful addon that allows them to stack up the master writs, and helps them knock them out all at once, and turn them in all at one time. How many Console players across Xbox and PlayStation have had to abandon master writs worth a LOT of vouchers simply because we have missing styles or other elements? It's extremely frustrating, time consuming, and downright anger inducing. Some of our community have limited time in a day, and want to play and have a quality of game life for the community the support and enjoy in their free time. Robbing them of this valuable time is a simple injustice. So, with that, I have come up with an idea for a quality of life improvement for the master writ system. My suggestion for console players is simple.

Adjust the text and/or colors on the master writs to help us determine if we (as a player) can do master writs at a glance. I am including two simple edited examples of a master writ below:

LLyOKCz.pngAxFdlG7.png

Now these are just samples of the bare root examples I have. As a former coder and web game designer I can understand what a task and headache this could be to implement as quality of life update for all servers and platforms. This would be beneficial to PC players also who do not, or cannot run with addons themselves.

As you can see by the first image, it does not list the elements you are missing (probably the simplest to implement) while in the second image, each part of the master writ is color coded to indicate what elements of the writ you are missing. This would, at a glance, allow people to see in their inventory, or in a guild trader what master writs they could do then and there and which ones would be worth buying (all green), and selling (elements of red.)

I feel that if this quality of life update where to be implemented, the community would have a much stronger crafting side and master writ trading market for sellers, buyers and guilds to sell them in. I also feel it would be a win/win for the entire crafting community as a whole, and the community at large that would benefit both experienced grand master crafters and new players just starting their crafting journey.

Thank you for your time,
MissK

Ha, I have never abandoned a master writ, but I did open one early in my crafting that required a trait that I had not researched yet.

I was locked out of doing any more writs of that type until I finished the research and completed the writ.

I learned to do a dress rehearsal before I crafted any more master writs.

Your suggestion is valid I think, they have added color text for other things, it might be provisioning recipes, whether you can do them or not at your current level and passives. So it would be consistent with what has been done before.

One could dream. I would love this.

I maintain a pretty comprehensive spreadsheet that I can enter item, trait, set, and style into via dropboxes and will pop red or green to let me know whether I can do it. But even that's still a bit time consuming having to consult my laptop while looking at master writs, but helpful. Well, except for now after the Jubilee event where I chewed down so many motifs, recipes, furnishing plans, it's horribly out of date.

Also support this! Really, for QOL stuff like this we shouldn’t have to depend on addons. Ideally, ZOS should be using the popular QOL addons to measure where the player pain points are so they can improve those areas in the base game.

Console Players need this. On PC I can tell at a Glance if I need to Bank or use a Master Crafting Writ.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I don’t see why it can’t be done. They show green/red on provisioning plans if you have the mats for it.

    it's an awesome idea!
though i think having text like "Trait not researched" and/or "Style not learned" would be better instead of colours

this too would work. it all really depends on how the code is for motifs.

Ha, I have never abandoned a master writ, but I did open one early in my crafting that required a trait that I had not researched yet.

I delete every master writ that I do not have the style or trait for. I don't even hesitate. There is ZERO reason for me to keep it as I will NEVER be able to complete it.

    never? that's really not true.
    you can research all traits.

and can buy a lot of motifs for ~20k or less.
if you dont wanna buy them you can get them from doing dungeons or daily quests

It's very rare for me to be able to afford anything at 20k. It's extremely rare for me to have over 100k. This game has gold sinks that only affect those who don't have obscene amounts of gold.

The chances of getting a motif are so staggeringly small that there's no point in even trying.

My main character has most traits unlocked for everything but Jewelcrafting. I still lack the Nirnhorned stuff. I managed to find a shield once, so I've got every trait for shields. But I don't have the stuff for anything else. In fact, that character is probably missing a trait or two on random types of gear I never use. Like training on one handed maces or something.

For Jewelcrafting, I've only managed to find a couple of the non-basic traits. I have Triune for Amulets and something else, but iirc don't have anything but the basic 3 for rings.

And no, I'm not using the auction house system. I refuse to participate in something I hate.

The chances of getting a motif are so staggeringly small that there's no point in even trying.

Every DLC dungeon motif has a guaranteed drop if you do it on vet hard mode. Do it with a group of 4 friends and trade amongst yourselves and you can complete entire motifs pretty quickly.

Most of the ones from coffers have in the neighborhood of a 50% drop rate (for the first one... subsequent are very rare).

The only ones that are a major pain are the ones from treasure chest leads in zones where all 14 of them from the same motif chapter all drop in the same zone (High Isle, Blackwood, Deadlands, etc...).

And then you have the anniversary event where they drop like candy (Yes, your chance of getting the specific motif you're looking for is really rare... but getting any motif, extremely common)

Now, if you don't want to do those activities, those are your choice, but you choosing to not do something does not make it "staggeringly small"

IMO - One big QoL improvement would be if duplicate MWs would sort in order, for example, 3 duplicate provisioning MWs in a row.
Better would of course be if they stacked, but that's a bridge too far for ZOX to let us have.

The PC addons we have are great (mostly) for being able to see which MWs are completable.
Self sorting any uncompleted MWs to the bottom of the inventory when mass-crafting and mass-turning-in 100 MWs in a session would also help a lot.

I play on PC (with addons), but, for my console brothers and sisters, it's just stupidcrazy that the QoL code above isn't already built directly into console code by default.
The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

for PC writworthy addon already handles a lot of this, and does almost exactly what your showing in the screenshots

(i get that this is an addon and doesnt help console users, but it is an option for those on PC)

    this addon:
    • shows when hovering on the writ if you are lacking anything to craft it (crafting passives, motif knowledge, tempers, style mat, trait mat)
    • shows approximate cost to craft (if you are running a price tracking addon)
    • allows you to queue up multiple master writs to pre-craft them before even accepting and turning in the quests
    • crafts the required item and upgrades it when visiting the associated crafting station

so i usually just stock up master writs and do them in bulk (during the first zenithar event i did this with about 80-100 master writs)
    plays PC/NA
    handle @Necrotech_Master
    active player since april 2014

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

Does it show in inventory without hovering over it for details? Like, ones I can't do will be faded and red like a class set I cannot wear on current character? I am less interested in precise details of what aspects of a writ are holding me back, and more interested in very quickly ascertaining a binary yes/no on whether I can craft it.

i am not sure if there is a simple indicator in your inventory if you can or cannot do it, i would have to look at its settings again

if there is a setting for that, i dont have it enabled right now because it doesnt display anything in my inventory, but shows it in the tooltip (which has been very helpful mostly in regards to the motif knowledge, or when im missing gilding wax for jewelry writs)
