Do Gold Road NPCs recognize Imperial characters?

Just wondering, since they are not recognized by anyone anywhere else in the game, including Imperial NPCs and zones.

    I highly doubt it.
Except for very special, unique moments, NPCs in this game never mention your race or appearance.

Also, every NPC treats you like you're a drooling idiot if you ask the only questions the game allows you to ask like:

    1. Uh, could you repeat that?

    2. Who is MOLAG BAL?

    3. I don't remember anything. Can you explain to me who you are again?

So, yeah. Unless maybe one NPC does, there will probably be no recognition of your Imperial race in the new DLC. (I love this game, but it really needs work in the Immersion department.)

There's recognition for Altmer in Summerset, I know that much. There's also a quest in Deshaan that recognizes the sex of your character.

Two characters recognized me as a Bosmer, so I was wondering the same.

The few times I can think of Imperial characters getting recognized for their race is by an Argonian npc named Huraeeth in Hutan-Tzel in Blackwood and the Gold vendor in Cyrodiil has race specific dialogue for every race.

They might, but they'll probably treat you like a foreigner regardless (like the Altmer in Summerset). God forbid your character be anything other than a homeless wanderer. Did your character originally come from Shimmerene? Too bad, you don't get a dialogue option saying "Actually, I was born here", you'll have to be fine with perpetually being treated like an outsider.

I remember there is an orc in Wrothgar that recognizing your an orc.

But he just tells you he can see that, and makes you look like an idiot...

I love games that have race-specific dialogue. It makes me sad that that feature is getting rarer and rarer.

The recognizing Orcs in Wrothgar is amazing. There's even a (main) quest that has a different possible outcome for male Orcs only. And yes, Summerset's dialogue differences for Altmer versus non-Altmer really made me feel that Summerset had much better Altmer than the rest of the game - basegame Altmer never felt like the Altmer I was used to in the series.

But my favorite NPC in Wrothgar has to be Nerus Lucullus, the Imperial vendor outside of Morkul stronghold. He has such great lines if you talk to him on an Orc where he firmly plants his foot in his mouth and then awkwardly tries not to have his face bashed in. I laugh every time I go up to him.

    • "I've got plenty of fine goods for sale! No raw pig meat, though. You Orcs do like to eat raw pig meat, right …? Did I mention I love Orcish culture?"

Yeah, that bothered me in both Vvardenfell and Summerset. The whole "you're an outsider" theme is pretty well-embedded into the Elder Scrolls series overall (along with starting out as a prisoner). It'd be nice if ESO was robust enough with NPC interaction for us to actually have our characters be from somewhere.

In the end, the dialogue options always work better if you're playing a non-Altmer in Summerset and a non-Dunmer in Vvardenfell, which is just kinda disappointing. So, it'll probably be the same with Imperials in Gold Road.

Lack of our character's race recognition is a huge immersion problem in ESO.

Our Khajiit character is not recognized as a Khajiit by any NPC, including Elsweyr.
Our Altmet character is not recognized (and weirdly suffer prejudice in Summerset) by any other Altmer or any other NPC.

The same for all other character. They are all (with very rare occasions) treated as a foreigner "blob" in any region, specially that ones part of ESO races' cultures.

I think there’s a few quest lines where you are recognized as an Altmer. I wanna say the Rellenthil quest, wherever sinkhole is. There’s others where you were recognized as an offshore Altmer. Beyond that chapter, I can’t think of many other examples where race is visibly recognized.

I don't think it's that immersion breaking to not have everyone you ever meet or interact comment on your race. It's nice to have a few NPC's that mention it in casual discussion, but imagine if everyone you talked to in real life commented on your race/ethnicity at every interaction. It would be pretty daggum rude and inappropriate imo.

Having a few characters reference it in passing every now and then is fine. The whole world doesn't need to shout that I'm a Khajiit every chance they get, even in Elsweyr.

I didn't notice any race-specific dialogue from the gold vendor for my Imperial character. This could be because she has so many different dialogue statements that I just never heard them.

The female banker in Alinor also has completely different dialogue if you're an Altmer.

I thought the recognition of race in Summerset was very well done. It makes sense that you would still encounter prejudice on Summerset as an Altmer from Auridon or the mainland. Of course it would be ideal to be able to choose from where you character is from, but that would require different options even within recognizing race and I won’t ask for that much, just at least recognize race where it would be jarring not to!

This is why my characters all have to come from some obscure village somewhere off the map. Not too many other ways to hand wave it in my head.

Pretty much this. It's far easier to come up with a believable backstory (in my own mind is all I'm meaning) when whichever girl comes from a "back of beyond" somewhere.

There's other threads talking about this same thing, and let me tell you, there's tons of unique dialogue all over the game recognizing your race. Two of my favorites are as an argonian. One during the first summerset quest reporting to razum-dar about the missing people, and a second during the mining samples fetch quests in blackreach, where you have the option to tell off the forman for being a jerk.

People just know some hundreds other people, also the game not showing all living there.
But if you are in an village with an single Khajiit in an zone they are rare like the Rift he would acknowledge you as one.

For imperials, they don't look that different from Breton or Nords. Redguards is the only human race standing out but guess an Breton living in Al'kir for years would get an serious tan, but also tan lines.

While racism exists in the Elder Scrolls universe, most of Tamriel's races live together quite affably.

    People are people.

    So are kitties and lizards.

It makes perfect sense to me that most NPCs don't comment on my character's race.

This is incorrect. There's quite a lot of racial recognition in the game, albeit not as much as it should be and can be quite random when they appear, but it definitely exist and do for all races.

Well, all races except imperials. It's infamously bad how they don't get any racial recognition despite the topic being imperials. Like how King Emeric and others calls you friend but also insult imperials right into your face, and all you do is just stand there all :| Thanks, Emeric.
