Bow is great for one bar builds, for a few big reasons:

    1) Bow lights and heavies do TONS of damage if you're consistently light attack weaving, as each light/heavy gives a stack that increases L/H damage by 5%. On a one bar build, these stacks pretty much never fall off.

    2) One bar builds have decent crit chance and crit damage thanks to Oakensoul, so Bow's absurd amount of crit chance plays into that strength.

    3) Since you have limited bar space, using a Bow allows you to not need to run a snare removal, since the roll dodge will give you speed.

    4) One bar builds tend to be a little less durable since you don't have as much bar space for utility/defense. Range helps alleviate that.

That's not to say other weapons won't work though. The most important part about making a one bar build is finding a good damage combo and finding a good defense combo. So long as you can settle on one of each that works with whatever weapon you choose, you're good to go.

one of my necromancers that i use a one bar style (oakensoul), i primarily use for the archive, but does OK in BG too

in this setup i use an ice staff, because it gives me better tanking options on a 1 bar setup as well as ranged dmg

it offers great sustain too using ele sus which is free cast

due to being setup as a tank the dmg isnt super high (it can be great inside the archive though) but it works well enough for me that it did OK when i ran some BGs with some friends on it
    plays PC/NA

    active player since april 2014

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

You wouldn't be able to use Maarselok on a Bow 1 bar, since Maarselok requires a melee heavy to activate.

You want something well rounded for a one bar build. Things like Order's Wrath that give both damage and survivability are great. Things that save a bar slot can also be great (think things like Gryphons, Night Mothers, etc). You can also have a lot of success with something like Serpent's Disdain on a one bar, but you'd have to go destro to fit the status effects you'd need for the build to be viable.

Does fire staff and lightning have lot of status effect than ice staff?

All the staves have the same amount of status effects - the status effects come from Ele Sus and Force Pulse.

The difference is what type of build you want. Crit and durability? Go Frost staff. Pure Status Effect/DoT? Go flame. Burst damage? Go Lightning.

since its more of a tank build i do oakensoul + leeching plate + serpents disdain + 1pc baron zaudrus (i almost wish i could have 2 pc of that set though due to being a status effect heavy build lol)

for the weapon i use an ice staff mainly for the blocking bonuses, otherwise i probably would use fire staff as that buffs dots/status effects
