Is Sorc/DK transparency a hindrance?

I realized today that while I'm being grabbed and lifted into the air, or rooted and my character is knelt over, that I literally cannot see what my character is doing. As a tank player (and I'm sure I can speak for almost all other tank players out there), is there any way we can disable this?


I could make a video but if your character is transparent, it is EXTREMELY difficult to tell what animation your character is performing especially with all of the other abilities in the party going off. I know ZOS has been working hard to get skill effects right but I think as someone who spends a good chunk of time and money into this game, that we should at least be able to see how bosses interact with our character.


As it stands right now, I see floating blue nothingness mixed in with 700 abilities and a bunch of flashes. It is not clear at all. I can barely tell when I'm blocking. Please ZOS, please... give tanks a fighting chance.

    Edit: I actually agree to a point, bc Hurricane and that DK heart healing skill are kinda annoying to use. It'd be cool if the transparency lasted like a couple seconds, but the rest of skill kept going. I don't really have a problem with Lightning form tho in this regard, just that it feels like its got no range on it.

    True though, like make the transparency last as long as the Major Expedition, and in that way it won't be distracting for 20-30 seconds.

    I had trouble at the beginning but now I have a much better handle on it, but I've also got some combat addons. The transparency is cool I guess but I feel like it doesn't really make sense, it'd function just fine without the transparency and only the wind. Or maybe the wind + some rock plating on the body.

    Or yeah, have the transparency be an indicator for the expedition.

    I think the option to disable transparency, or a skill style that changes it out would be good.

    I personally like the skills the way they are though
    Add a Scribing skill that works like Arcanist beam.

    Veteran players have been alienated and disengaged from Overland since One Tamriel, due to the lack of difficulty, and pushed into dungeons and trials; the minority of content in the Elder Scrolls Online. We can't take the repetition anymore, fix Overland engagement for Vet players. I don't even care if it's not combat related anymore, just make Overland engaging again.

    Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 10 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. Make a self debuff mythic. Literally anything at this point.

    I love transparency and would want every class got there own version of transparency, for example: the bubble of nightblade or templar, HoT from bitter harvester of necro, runic defence on your own for arcanist.

    By turning transparent, you are freed of your physical form and ascend into a bulk of living energy !

    As one who mainly tanks, I know what I'm doing from knowing what button I press or click, by knowing what action the boss is taking, by knowing my health and resources and buffs and debuffs.

    In terms of visions and views, I'd say maw of inferno and flesh atro ult are of much more hazards as THEY ARE NOT TRANSPARENT and BLOCK YOUR SIGHT OF BOSS. (I won't suggest making them transparent, though. Instead, the daedroth should appear from behind of the specific enemy and flesh atro spawning at the caster and smash the area with long arm(therefore the arms strike from above and no body parts around))


    PS: don't bring me up with combat alert or other similar add-on, they don't fit in TES universe

    there's a buff icon for that, and you the visual effect is actually visible. even me running as tank with gloamshadow(which also has similar effect of turing you into a living shadow) can tell the infection and cleanse in time. Players who don't know this mechanic and not even would learn or play the mechanics are of more troubles for most of the time.

    It's been a pain for me since the very beginning. It is especially troublesome when the server is lagging badly and I need quick confirmation that any of my actions are even taking place. Literally the only thing about Gold Road I was interested in were the custom effects for skills and even that was a disappointment when I heard that they aren't even going to affect class-skills.

    I also loveeeeeeee the transparency feel but I play with a lot of BLOOM so everything is overly shiny and bright, meaning in my form, I look like a puff of blue air. It's insanity when trying to see if you activated that lever quickly or need to do it again. It's just not always the most... accurate.

    On the topic of fitting into the TES universe— that’s what I meant when I said the invisibility doesn’t make sense. The hurricane winds must be destruction (or maybe alteration), but invisibility (would this really be the Chameleon effect instead?) is… illusion? It’s one spell but it’s doing a destruction (or alteration) and an illusion aspect when the entire point of the spell is destruction (wind) or maybe alteration (defense). You could argue the wind is alteration maybe, but I think both invisibility and chameleon are illusion spells and there’s no way the wind is illusion because its doing damage— its real wind. There’s no reason you should be invisible if we’re going to bring what makes sense in the TES universe into this, because you’d essentially need to be casting multiple spells at once for 0 additional benefit since the invisibility doesn’t do anything towards making you sneakier.

    The DK one bothers me, because I don't know why a skill about having a powerful heart makes me invisible. I want to see my outfit, not 20 seconds of a floating heart!

    It makes sense for sorc to become "like lightning", but it feels off-theme for DK. It's also a very dramatic visual for a small buff—especially when it's used more as a burst heal.

    Just as a reference... my character looks nearly invisible standing in this blue pool that I actually can't tell what action my character is currently doing. If there are two bosses, sometimes a slain boss looks more like my character than my own character.

    *my character is not the yellow bear... but the invisible blue smoke standing next to it*

    I get it is part of the theme but always been of the opinion sorcerer lightning form effect is a distraction. Whether visually for tanking, or aesthetically (covering outfit).

    The sorc one is epic just needs a touch up instead of blue ghost. more defining animation, not just ghostly.

    The dk one is weird, from hedgehog spikes to ashes and a burning heart, may as well add phoenix wings to it after going invis/ashes, fi that's the theme.

    The name "lightning form" would need changed probably, but I agree that turning transparent doesn't feel right. I think for Streak it makes more sense as being a lightning form since you're bolting forward. But honestly just a whirlwind of lightning around our player like in Skyrim I think would work better for for hurricane/form skill. I want to see my character I worked hard on customizing. Maybe the transparency is useful in some pvp scenarios? But having the option to choose which style we prefer sounds ideal.
