Happy 30th Birthday to the Elder Scrolls Franchise

The very first Elder Scrolls game, "Elder Scrolls: Arena" came out 30 years ago to this day. I didn't realize until I saw it on Reddit, but I actually share a birthday with a franchise I have been playing for over 20 of those years now. Neat! Anyway as a long time lover of the franchise, and a player of ESO since console launch, I wanted to just wish a happy cake day lol. 🎉🎂

What's some of your favorites plot lines from ESO? Something you like about the franchise in general?

Sister Terran Arminus: Hold! The Scroll is here!

Empress Regent Clivia Tharn: Where? There's nothing.

Sister: This is where I left it. Give me a moment. You'll see.

    Empress: The Elder Scroll!

Sister: It's not ready! Don't touch it!

Empress: The Scroll is mine. Kill them all!

Franchise in general Oblivion is the funniest game in terms of Dialogue especially Imperial Guards. I enjoy punching one of them just to hear them yell "Stop right there Criminal Scum..." (Its their Helmet). Some of the Orc characters in that game have very funny one liners as well.

happy birthday Elder Scrolls! ^_^ 🌙🌸
the scrolls are now 30 years old wow

    edited to add:
i love that the Elder Scrolls games have so much to do. i love decorating houses the most.

With plot line are you referring to story or a quote?

if story then i love Manor of Masques from Summerset, i love Alchemy and i hope she's in more future quests.
the Murkmire zone story was also awesome.

if quote then i dont know, it's hard to remember dialogue.

Morrowind was it for me — I played it when it was no longer new, but my computer was old, thankfully, else I would have missed out on my first RPG! I love the otherworldly atmosphere of the game, the lore, how the lack of instant health regen made venturing into some areas truly dangerous!

Morrowind was my first Elder Scrolls game as well.

I remember Daggerfall, but it was a dodgy CD from a dodgy shop in a dodgy district of Hong Kong. The game had some bug that I couldn't fix so I never completed it. Those winding 3D dungeons though. OMG!

Morrowind was the sweet spot for me. Actual exploration - so fun.

Oblivion onwards: follow breadcrumbs or head towards quest marker. No exploration anymore. Also, terrible UI obviously designed for consoles. Sigh.

I never had a problem with Daggerfall. Honestly.... I've never really had bugs in games. I might be the only person in history to have completed Forgotten Realms: Undermountain without issues or patches....

Daggerfall was AWESOME. I love it to this day - once I get my new machine - 2 days! - and get it set up, I'll be loading Daggerfall and playing again. All those dungeons.... generated more or less on the fly....

I really didn't like Morrowind - not a dunmer fan, and.... well, it's the only single player ESO title I've never finished.

Apparently the exact release date of Arena is a matter of some uncertainty and debate, but March 25th works for me.

    Happy 30th Birthday, Elder Scrolls!

Played every single Elder Scrolls game since the start, including Battlespire and Redguard.
Favorite is Daggerfall. It took me 16 years to finish it...3 different PCs and multiple saves of which some were on 3.5 floppy disks. Buggiest damn game ever! In fact, a Bethesda developer made a special patch for me and I drove down to headquarters to pick it up directly from them.

Are you playing Daggerfall on Steam? If not, what's recommended (other than *never* just walking across the map, lol)

    exploration?!

Started with skyrim and played it like assassins' creed. Quest is just following the magic path (wish we have routing in ESO too) and kill everyone and their cows.

never got the full story but assassination was very thrilling at low levels.

Yeah.... do NOT walk across the map.... *shakes head* Dead before dinner prob'ly!

No, not on steam, I don't use steam period. I'm actually not sure how it will work on the new machine (which is 9 years newer than this one.... and a LOT more advanced). I'm not sure if GOG has it, or if I can just use DOSbox.

Having a clearout a few days ago I found a complete set of Elder Scrolls : Arena on 3.5" floppies. When I locate my 3.5" disk reader I'll load them up and see if they run under Win 10.

mmm...i was living in Hong Kong then, and that is where i also got a dodgy CD... so i am guessing it was either Sham Sui Po, Mongkok, or Wan Chai
