Let's take a break from endless complaints. If you still play pvp here it has to be for very good reasons.

Mine:

Because other MMOs I tried have terrible PvE and I can't stand mute NPCs. Always quit after a few minutes.

I rotate between PvE main and PvP main. I enjoy the combat system but proc sets can make the game feel so broken sometimes that it puts me off PvP and I just play PvE or a different game.

Because the game encourages you to be mega OP, and other games work hard to put a limit on that to preserve the integrity of multiplayer.

It really is like we're duking it out on high level-"how hard can I break this game" Skyrim builds.

    Horizontal progression on gear sets.

You can come back after a 6 month pause, a few hours of retraining muscle memory later:
40% chance your build from 6 months ago still works
30% chance you can make your sets from 4 years ago work
30% chance you can farm/craft something competitive in half a week.

I like trying to outthink intelligent opponents, as opposed to trying to perfect set rotations to defeat scripted NPCs.

I also like the large AvAvA format. Bugs and developer inaction aside, I have yet to find a more engaging concept than ESO PvP.

LOL, that reminds me of DC zone chat where at one point I basically knew everyone on the faction. If I saw a congregation of enough familiar names and faces something big was definitely going down.

For me, it’s successful teamwork to defend or take a keep (whether sieging or melee combat), to hold off a emp push, to withstand the assault of the hammer on a keep and take it and run it back to the attacking faction and use it against them, or to take back the map after being gated.. It’s exhilarating!

PVP in this game involves team based strategy that pushes me to perform under pressure in a way I find enjoyable and challenging. It has taught me to keep a cool head in combat, and to be observant of my surroundings on the battlefield.

It keeps my reflexes for combat sharp. When I actively PVP on a daily basis, I become better at PVE because the constant practice makes my muscle memory and reaction time faster. I find I can think on my feet far better because of PVP. Before I started participating in PVP regularly, I did not feel enough "life or death" pressure from most PVE content to care enough to refine myself. I now participate in higher tier PVE content as well because PVP has restored that drive to be successful.

That and I just enjoy the vibe of Cyrodiil. PVP doesn't make me angry or upset, like it can some people, not even when I die. When I PVP, I am completely relaxed, yet totally focused on strategy. I do it to chill out.

Even though I'm calm, the absence of safety in the PVP zones gives me an adrenaline rush I like to lean into. Knowing I am possibly being hunted while I am in pursuit of something myself is exciting in a way PVE is not. I like the unpredictability.

I've played PVP/PVE combination games for years though. I like PVE, but I find I need PVP in contrast to it to retain my interest.

I used to play a different game, long ago, where we had weekly sieges only on weekends. I like ESO's PVP system better because I get to siege whenever the heck I want to.

But you'll never see the price it costs
The scars collected all their lives

Before it all starts, they suffer through harm just to touch a dream
    Oh, pick yourself up, 'cause
    Legends never die

I used to stay for BGs but back when they initially made them solo queue only, pretty much everyone I played with quit. Some people kind of returned once they added the separate group queue, but didn't stick around for long after that. They had already found other games that held their attention more way before Zenimax finally did add group queue to the game. Now the only thing that pulls me back combat wise is the fact that I don't have to gear after I take a long break. Honestly though.... if it wasn't for housing, I wouldn't bother with ESO at all anymore.

I stay because I love AvAvA siege warfare, and this is the only way to get it in a high fantasy MMO (unless you want to go truly old school and play DAoC). The whole concept behind Cyrodiil is awesome. I love stealing and defending the Elder Scrolls, I love setting up impenetrable chokepoints at keep breaches, I love doing the opposite of what the enemy expects and wiping them, etc. I’m also in a few really great PVP guilds that make it all that much better. It’s fun coordinating sets with other group members and getting the most out of what each set and class has to offer.

I just wish Cyrodiil received more resources and, most importantly, HIGHER POPULATION CAPS. It’s still fun, but it’s a shadow of its former self because it feels so much emptier these days — even when we’re pop-locked and there’s an hour long queue to get in.

I think all of this (you said it perfectly), plus for myself giving up selfish solo play (ganking) for the most part, committing to the end result (win the hour, win the Campaign), supporting my Alliance, guildies, and groups even while playing solo and enjoying the ride has just enhanced my love for ESO PvP. Significantly lowering my expectations of what the devs release live has really made it all the more chill and fun to tinker around with whatever is released and happens next.

And because the PvE infrastructure that supports PvP is pretty awesome in this game. (not mentioning U35...major exception here ;) )

All this, and the friends and acquaintances I've made that I get to pvp with regularly. I don't know that the above would be enough anymore without anyone to group with.

I don't, save for the occasional BG and/or PvP event. Getting a character PvP-ready is too much of a hassle for someone who likes variety, so I only have 2 (and a half if I count my True Tank™, with some caveats if some sets are ran). BGs are filled with people who don't know what they're doing, mostly PvE toons there for the XP bonus, or they do but they'd rather duel/seek kills for minutes upon minutes instead of following the objectives. Which leads to some of my fast PvE characters winning Capture the Relic BGs very quickly without even being touched - literally, they'd die instantly upon being touched. So that's just not fun to me.
IC is mildly entertaining during the preloading phase of PvP events, but only on PvP characters - alts get their dailies preloaded. Cyro is DAoC gone wrong, and I hate it when things I'd potentially like go wrong, so I don't really touch it unless forced to.

The combat system the original devs created is still the best PvP combat ever created. It's a crying shame the new blood at ZOS refuses to support PvP and the original vision for the game.

Hopes are high with most people who have quit ESO due to lacking PvP support that another game will come along to fill the void.

Troll tanking is a legitimate strategy. It focuses enemy resources onto you and away from the squishies who can actually deal damage. Plus it stacks and packs them into a tight bunch so your bombers can come in and blow them up. I don't do it myself, but I've been around long enough to know why it's done.

People often say in zone chat, "What are these players thinking? They're not doing any damage." I tell them, "They are probably having a great time, laughing their butts off in front of the computer. Are you?"

Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Because once in while I can't kill my opponent and they can't kill me. We just end up walking away with a wave. Then the zergs are fun whichever side of it you are on. 40 people trying to take a keep and I'm helping defend or visa versa.

I do like trying to play as an assassin in PvP: Getting up close into an ongoing fight and taking out a target and then trying to disengage.

Unfortunately, in Cyro it takes a while to get anywhere. Keep flagging, keep walls, no wall-hopping and detect pots make melee assassin play untenable, ranged ganking can’t take out tough targets, and range ganking squishies I just don’t find sporting.

I dont. I gave up a year ago. I finally after many years made my peace with the devs not caring about pvp one bit.

I PvP very casually, but it's the same reason as PvE: I really enjoy the combat. I also like how the AvAvA map is set up, and when performance allows, large keep battles (or just a typical Friday night in Glade, if you are DC :)) are really fun in Cyro. The hammer can also be fun if populations are balanced.

IC is mildly entertaining during the preloading phase of PvP events, but only on PvP characters - alts get their dailies preloaded.

I always forget which alt did what when I try that....

I am a frequent PvP skeptic here, but I will note that even trying Cyrodiil some is a pain now with such low pop caps. Almost impossible to get into 1 of the 2 with the possibility of a big battle where I might survive for a while.

Because currently I suck at it, terribly, and it's such a fun challenge trying to continually learn and improve. I love the siege warfare and the way a group can just pop up and function together sometimes, like magic, and other times just fall apart. It's so interesting to me seeing the way a single leader can direct the flow of battle in zone chat and with a couple good calls change the course of the night. I really enjoy the strategy involved and the way the map changes constantly.
