So new graphic specs.

I wonder how many people who could play the game won't be able to because of these graphic changes for PC. So sick and tired of MMO Devs doing this without giving a dang about those players who don't have money to keep updating their PCs to play something they could before.

The recommended CPU came out 13 years ago. The recommended GPU came out 10 years ago (minimum spec is 13 years ago too).

This is incredibly old in tech years and is extremely generous when it comes to a reasonable amount of time to expect to have to update your old computer.

That's coming up to 3 generations of consoles for reference, which have a pretty long life cycle of 4-5 years.

I disagree that they don't care about older specs, if for no other reason than $$$, but the cost of supporting really old hardware at some point must outweigh the loss of the few who are still holding on to such old hardware. I find this completely reasonable from both a business and personal standpoint.

The recommended specs are still both over a decade old. If you want the devs to continue supporting the game, they need to cut the cord on hardware over 15 years old.

If you're playing on hardware over 13 years old (the recommended specs), you should be willing to accept the fact that you're not going to be able to run the vast majority of games.

You could get cheap hardware that's like 7-10 years old and it would still be above the newly updated specs.

So we highlighted this in the patch note for it, but this change should not impact anyone today. Ultimately, while we try to support as much hardware as possible, it's simply isn't realistic to be able to support every hardware configuration.

Just also wanted to note that we do consider the player environment when making these changes. The hardware spec change is still in-line with majority of players.

And you know what's going to happen? Those people will do what you say and move on from the game. And what is happening now to the bicycling industry will happen to the MMO market. Trek Bicycles globally and other top brands are about to lay off almost 50% of their workforce. Because of the Lance Armstrong fraud and focusing on the high-end bicycle market. They were so focused on selling the top gear for the sport that they forgot about the average rider who wasn't interested in racing. Now they are paying for it. A bicycle tune-up today cost over 100 dollars. Most people can't afford to drop that kind of money for a tune-up. Bicycle shops are almost empty these days because those average people are sick and tired of the pitch they get as some as they walk in. You may think this has nothing to do with the MMO market but it will.

Bicycle shops don't even exist in my area, if you want a tune up you do it yourself.

Supporting ancient hardware isn't a viable long term strategy.

You're comparing Apples to Oranges. ZOS is still supporting hardware that's over a decade old. That is an eternity in the PC hardware world. They didn't update the specs to top of the line, brand new hardware. They aren't catering to people that dropped 3k+ on a PC. They're ending support for PCs that are a decade and a half old (an extremely small minority of players).

If your hardware is older than 13 years (again, the recommended specs), good luck finding games to "move on to".

A very small percentage, almost certainly < 1% of the player base. And that doesn't mean those systems won't be able to play the game, it will just perform worse. Steam and other PC platforms don't just run periodic hardware surveys for their own benefit: they provide the results of those surveys to their content providers, precisely so the devs of long-term supported games such as ESO know when to move on from older hardware.

Maybe not? And you don't get it?

Bike industry had a *huge* upward trend during Covin restrictions (at least here in Germany), due to limited supply of parts from China, prices probably doubled. But now everyone and his dog have a new bike, and probably won't buy another one for a couple of years.
And: Nobody said a bike was cheap to maintain. Yes, grandma's bike is easy to fix, but modern bikes are more complex, so you should just use the old maintanance rule: Spend 5-10% of the retail price to keep your item in good working condition, per year. So that's an easy 100-200 EUR/USD - per year. Or spend nothing, and it's ready for the dumpster in 5 years. Doing a bit of math, that would be financially worse.

And: Why should I not buy a bike - because Lance Armstrong admitted to doping? Lol. Everyone knows that every professional cyclist is doping. Some get caught, some have better "medical preparation" and don't get caught, for now.

And btw. - bike repair shops are *packed* with customers - the shops usually will refuse to work on bikes not purchased in that store, due to serving their customers first. And then there is no time left for anything else.

Honestly I think the vast majority of people would love for ZoS to bite the bullet and give us a major graphics overhaul instead of having pets and mounts look like possessed mannequins...but you will always have someone with a 386 and a Monster 3D screaming about legacy Hardware compatibility.

I'm really glad other MMO's have decided to go with what the vasts majority wants and update their graphics.

Isn't that what graphics settings are for. Allow some upsized textures for the 4090 crowd on high settings, while retaining the existing textures for low/medium.
