So what is your favorite website for class builds? i was using this one https://alcasthq.com/category/eso-builds-classes/
but was told it was not a good place for builds.

so I'm here asking for a debate on good websites for class builds.

I used to look at builds provided by Hack the Minotaur https://hacktheminotaur.com/. I've not been on the site for a while though until just now to grab the link so not sure how up to date it is. There are some fun builds to play around with.

If you look at his arcanist builds, it's a pretty good example. He has sets that were meta for other classes (like relequen/pillar and whorl/pillar, both with kilt) and no beam. It looks more like he builds more around copy and pasting the same sets to every build than building around the class kits.

The builds are just copypasted the last couple of years. Plus many explanations make little sense.
Skinnycheeks and TheTankClub (as other have stated) are very good resources.
I also like to go on Deltias Site. He often has some inspirational out of the box-ideas for builds.

    Can you explain why?

    The builds are very outdated.

Every time a new update comes around, all the pages get "updated for x" added, but that's about the only change that's made.

Unfortunately the SEO of that site is pretty good, so search engines still think it's relevant info.

The content creator with the most in-depth research and information at this point is Skinny Cheeks in my opinion, but the others mentioned in this thread offer lots of valuable info as well.

    Just avoid alcast.

I tend to stick to "written" guides only

Skinny cheeks is great for endgame pve dps

Deltias is good for very basic cookie cutter builds for both pve and pvp

Hack the minotaur is nice for themed solo builds

Tank club is solid for an introduction to tanking

so I'm looking at https://skinnycheeks.gg/arcanist and I'm not certain what weapon setup to use as an all purpose, I don't have the time or resources to have multiple sets of gear for different things.

    would appreciate the advice.

transitioning to these builds would also require me to level some skill lines from 0 to 50, so what would be the fastest way to do that? would dolman runs in alkir desert work? i gotta level fighters guild anyaways.

    Sure.

Alcast's site has good basic info across all ESO features which is useful, especially for new players, but after that it's a bit 'jack of all trades master of none'.

    As for builds:

    Bland one-size fits all vibe.

Obvious copy and paste generic builds.

Lack of depth and build variety.

There's no such thing as an all purpose setup in this game, multi-purpose is the best you'll achieve. :)

But the common weapon setup (for damage) is frontbar dual wield, backbar destro/2h/dw/bow to trigger infused weapon/spell dmg enchant. (He has a video on enchants explaining how this works).

When it comes to the actual sets, all the suggestions on that page are good, but some of them are easier to obtain than others. Some examples: Order's Wrath is a strong damage set in general, and crafted so easy to get. Deadly Strike is bind on equip, you buy it with AP or using the guild traders. Pillar of Nirn is bind on pickup and requires farming a dlc dungeon. Pick a combination you can obtain right now with minimal effort, and assume that over time you will either change it or add more sets for different situations.

not true - I used correct phrasing and got adult content.

Maybe I should have omitted the words penetration, staff and monster helm.

Xynode is also not a good resource. His builds are mostly just bad but he words them like they’re good for everything up to trial trifectas.

It seems he’s found his niche in one-bar builds for casuals, so I guess if that’s what you’re looking for then great but definitely not one of the best places to go.

where would you suggest i go for builds? making my own will end in disaster lol, i would probably do worse than most.

Soarora’s first post in this thread (post number three) has all the resources you’ll need. And here’s a decent -ish guide for healers (albeit slightly outdated): https://eso-u.com/articles/complete_guide_to_healing_in_eso_for_all_players (EDIT: weird, direct linking doesn’t work. Just go to eso-u.com and look up the healing guide there.)

I think I found what I need/want to do on skinnycheeks. I need to find some beginner one handed swords to use until i can get what i need for the build.

what dungeons are more likely to drop decent starter cp 160 on handed swords i can use as filler until i get something for the end game build?

Just use crafted sets until you’ve acquired what you need from dungeons or trials. Order’s Wrath is very good for a crafted set.

so this is a pic of a dps build for arcanist on skinnycheeks website.
as you can see it has pvp and arena items.

why the pvp and arena items? does it mean this build is for pvp? or does it just add more dps to the build?

There are PvP sourced items that work well in PvE. Deadly is one of them because it buffs DoTs and channeled abilities, making it great for templar and arcanist. It being PvP sourced just means you can buy them at guild traders.

The setup you showed is in fact the meta DPS build for PvE trials right now.

For every recommendation you are given there will be someone (or someones) who will say that person's builds are trash. Keep in mind in PVE pretty much whatever you have fun playing with is viable. It's not until you go into dungeons and endgame (so, trials, hard modes, trifectas, etc) that I'd worry. Now, my personal preferences are MalcolM for PVP, Skinnycheeks for DPS, tank a mixture of Hyperioxes and the Tank Club. I don't heal yet, so IDK about all that.

Well I guess it all depends on your playstyle. I have found his builds helpful for me, indeed every bit as helpful as many of the other's folk have listed, but I am not an elitist, I am very much playing this game to have fun, not to be in the top 1%. I guess it depends on what the OP is looking for.

Personally I have had tons of fun running with many of Xynode's builds and his "all about mechanics" guides have really helped me with many dungeons and trials.

I was surprised to see a certain build creator on the "avoid list" for so many. I have been using a couple of his builds and they seemed ok.

I checked out the skinnycheeks site and felt overwhelmed with too many build options.
