Lacking in furnishings from Guild Traders

Is it me or does it seem we are lacking in available furnishings for sale from Guild Traders? I know certain types can be a hot item when certain DLCs are out, but I have been looking for lighting and other items, and many of the new traders are just not selling furniture. I seem to quickly run out of heartwood and mundane runes, so sometimes I just buy the actual items. But unless you want a bunch of fish and laurel branches, you can't find many items. I don't mind doing the cobbling thing, but always seem to run out of available space in houses.

In my experience, most furniture unfortunately sells for less than the crafting cost, and it can be difficult to predict what items will sell and which will linger on the store until the price is dropped so much that the crafter takes a loss just to get rid of it. I just sell the mats instead... I imagine that's what many are doing.

    Maybe it's a console thing?

On PC-EU I can usually find what I'm looking for, although if I'm honest I will 90% of the time look for the plan first and if it's a Luxury Vendor item I will have stocks of it myself.

I would hate to have to try find any item on consoles though, we are very spoilt by trading addons on PC.

People don't make furniture to sell nowadays because the furniture material price is so high. You will loose a lot of money compared to just selling the material.

So people mostly sell items they didn't need or no longer need.
[Lie] Of course! I don't even worship Daedra!

usually if i sell any furnishing items, its basically dropped items (paintings, archive furnishings, some other random items here and there that come as a full furnishing and not a blueprint)

i would never just make and craft random furnishings, its unlikely it would sell and there is the mat cost to take in stride

its why people usually offer services as crafters, they arent usually going to make and craft random pieces of set gear from set stations because its unlikely people would bother buying it unless they were specifically looking for it, the market is too specific/small

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

I seem to find that people simply don't want to purchase a furnishing if they can get the plans instead.

I routinely pickpocket/steal my way through Leyawiin Castle on a daily basis. I've lost count how many Skooma Bubblers I've looted in there (seriously whats up with the servant staff and their unending supply of skooma bubblers), and they just sit there on each of my Guild Traders rarely selling even at low price points. Then one day not too long ago, I pickpocketed what at first glance was yet another bubbler, but nope, it turns out I got the plans instead of the item. I put that on a guild trader at a very healthy price and it sold within minutes. I was still in the banker's UI managing my traders and stock when I got the mail ding.

Thanks all. All very insightful. I guess I never figured furniture items to be a loss, but makes sense. Also, yes, I bet it is console. I keep forgetting how different it is between. I guess I will have to do some more master writs so I can open up certain styles I want from the furnisher and then buy the mats. I also need more master writs, they're not dropping for me again lately. Vicious circle. lol

    That's pretty cool @DenverRalphy.

I just wanted to add to what I said earlier that another factor playing a role here is the limited number of trading slots. Many furnishing items will linger on the store for a very long time, and even if they generate a profit, it's often a loss in the sense that other items could have been listed in that slot that would sell faster and generate substantially more gold.

And rather than just being negative, I wanted to offer a suggestion too - many guilds (either housing guilds or larger trading ones that I've been in) often have members who know a lot of the recipes and are willing to craft furnishings for guildies (though generally they will want the mats to be supplied by the customer). I don't know if OP is in any such guilds or if that's as common on console as it is on PC, but it's an option to look into for getting some of the rarer furnishings!

I am in a couple of housing guilds. One doesn't have a trader yet though. I supposed if I really wanted something I could just ask if anyone knows it. I'd rather learn them for myself if I could. Just sometimes I like to buy items rather than make, like candles, lighting, platforms, etc. Or more decorative pieces.

I hope they will somewhen make it possible to deconstruct player-constructed furniture, similar to armor and weapons. That would bring a bit of movement into housing and the furniture market.

How so? Are you thinking players will buy furnishings just to decon? I suspect if this was implemented it would be like deconstructing gold gear and getting a chance at only getting one gold mat back, though.

After many years it is entirely possible to know whether a furniture item is worth crafting to sell but I do agree with others that most are not.

If you think about it the people who know the most plans are either completionists and not particularily into housing so don't know what sells OR have the knowledge but are into housing and want their housing materials for themselves.

I don't know how far you are into the game, content wise, it's worth remembering to check the zone furnishing sellers and the achievement ones too!

They can have surprisingly beautiful items.

Oh and my hot tip for a lighting plan you will not ever regret buying is the Praxis: Hlaalu Salt Lamp, Enchanted, it's small, has green, blue and red settings, can easily be put into walls, statues etc. etc. To this day I still use it all the time!! If you happen to have 700writ vouchers, it's part of the Ebonheart Furnishing Folio, along with.....
    Blueprint: Frog-Caller, Untuned
    Design: Pottery Wheel, Ever-Turning
    Diagram: Hlaalu Stove, Chiminea
    Formula: Alchemical Apparatus, Condenser
    Pattern: Dark Elf Tent, Canopy
    Sketch: Silver Kettle, Masterworked

Some of which might sell for a decent price if you don't need them yourself! <3

This is definitely happening on XEU. Some traders have barely a page of furniture and if it’s more, it’s usually items obtained from fishing and freebies from events since the Witches Festival or items bought from the dlc/latest chapter home furnishings sellers.

Thank you @freespirit! Yes I love them hlaalu lamps!! I used all my master writs on some clockwork plans recently, I have to build it all back up again. I haven't had time. And yes, I have tons from the achievement/home furnishings from different locations. A bit pricey, but some very worth it. Some I don't have unfortunately because I don't really do many veteran dungeons or trials anymore.

Looking like a console thing then. This is what I was running into and why I posted. I kept going to trader after trader (many of them seeming like new guilds) and they don't have much.

People used to sell furniture in traders. I used to sell the bear rugs and sofas and other staple pieces that were a little more rare for new players to get the blueprint for, and newer players used to gobble those up. People used to have furniture stores too. But the cost of mats is too high now, and the only furniture I see in traders are leftover pieces from someone’s build, always sold at a loss, if sold at all.

I occasionally sell furnishings when I end up not using pieces I crafted for a build, but they take awhile to sell. There doesn't seem to be a big market for furnishings so that is why I don't sell more.

Thanks Lasertooth! I'm a part of your guild! I try to buy from our peeps as much as possible.

Because I just decorated two big homes, I'm lacking in mats. I've spent a bunch of in game gold the past month and still am quickly going through it. It's amazing how many designs I still don't have! I need more master writs. I'm not getting any good ones from doing my daily writs anymore. So...I like to buy furniture from vendors as it's easier if I don't have the mats, etc. It's a vicious circle. lol

I wish you still did! :) I'm noticing that there are a ton of newer guilds on xbox na now. Many of them don't even have mats either. I'm hoping it's in a lull right now, and housing will boom again.

If you don't totally hate ToT, play a couple of sets of NPC games everyday, that will provide a small amount of furniture mats.... it adds up over time.

I hear that xbox has some bot issues too but maybe find youself a quiet area and spend a while collecting mats, refine them and sell what you don't need, I sell every gold mat I receive over a certain number that I keep for myself. Also I do quite a few sets of crafting dailies everyday, the surveys are a great source of mats to sell.

I know console economy is very different to PC but truly if you love housing and it appears you do, you are going to need a healthy income.

It still shocks me how much I spend on every housing project and much of my time is spent trading to support my housing addiction. Sometimes I buy mats, sometimes I buy furniture during a project, whichever I choose, it always involves spending gold, I am way too lazy to do as I advise and farm mats, instead I sell other items! 🙂

I have been told the same regarding ToT. I don't really get it tbh. I've tried to be taught and it doesn't sink in. lol. I'll try and have my husband teach me, at least to maybe get some of those mats.

Hey Ellmarie!! I recognized your GT, your houses are beautiful! The best way to enjoy housing is to amass extraordinary wealth, lol. Easier said than done!! I wish the developers would change this. The cost of housing mats, especially mundane runes, has gotten ridiculous. On Xbox/na mundane runes are about 120k/stack. I make most of my gold flipping items unrelated to housing. If you ever need any help making gold (there are many ways) I’m happy to advise!

I find furniture tends to take a long time to sell, even the higher-end desireable stuff.

If anything, you might be able to find a crafter who knows the plans and get them to make it for you.

If you are on PCNA, I'd be more than happy to craft you items, provided you bring the mats for them. I've got all but a few of the most recent plans which I am in the process of collecting, so shoot me a mail if you want. ^^

I also used to buy a lot of furnishings from traders and yes, there was a much bigger variety in the past, nowadays it's mostly dropped stuff, and the crafted ones are usually duplicates or surplus that housing players have left over, since it's not worth it to craft something for the purpose of selling it due to the prohibitive cost of materials. The next best thing is to ask friends or guildmates if they know a given a recipe and can craft you the item.

One of my big wishlist items for the game is a player-populated job board, where players post a "job" (with their reward, which can be a combination of gold and items) and players can accept them as quests. The job can be for anything craftable.
