Question about making a library in housing

I decided to make a library in the first section of the Telvanni Peninsula free house, Kelesan'ruhn, the Necrom style building not the Telvanni mushroom style.

I have a furnishing of what I think is the Necrom Bookcase, Elegant Grand that is rather large, and started putting the furnishing books in the lower half of the shelves. Those are already full (I just placed them flat on the shelf in a hurry, just to get started) but now I am wondering how I can put books in the upper half and still be able to read them. I am using the individual books found from treasure maps.

This may only be a problem on console and with PC using a controller. The cursor is fixed in the center of the screen and I don’t think I will be able to click on books onto the upper shelves if I have to tilt the camera upward far enough to reach them. They will be obscured by the edge of the shelf.

I would appreciate any advice on how others have successfully done this. I do not know anyone on PS that has set up a library.

My thoughts are that I would have to place something like steps for the character to stand on to read the upper shelves, or just stick to shorter bookshelves. The other option would be to have the edge of the books stick out beyond the edge of the shelves, but this would not be preferable.

I would suggest yeah like a stepstool, or placing decorative items in the top rows.

Thanks for the reply. That is unfortunate since this is a nice big bookshelf. I will have to come up with something that doesn’t look too obtrusive then.

I've been using Redguard Bookcase, Arched and have to put a Redguard Bench, Slatted in front of each one. It's weird because the books are in front of your face, but you just walk up to them like you're going to read them and nothing happens, unless you have something to stand on. Even my tallest character, a max-height high elf, I need the bench to read them.

Ok a couple of piccies of my method to reach higher bookshelves, first off just a "Murkmire Ramp, Reed" set at an angle so that it can be walked up

    grvOYpz.png

Secondly an updated version that looks more "Library ladder" to me, just adding a couple of "Elsweyr Wagon Wheel, Ironshod" .....

Finally another item you can use and make look like a ladder "High Isle Railing, Carved" it's in the left corner....

As you can see these methods can easily reach a second Alinor Bookcase, Grand Full above a first, just sink the ramp or railing into the floor for lower shelves.

Hope this gives you some ideas! <3

These are all lovely replies, very helpful, thanks so much for posting.

I figured I would use some scrap wood from the Home Goods furnishers just to play around and see how to make the books accessible and not block access. I really like the look of the ladder and the ramp/short stairway is a nice small size.

    Thanks again

I believeI am using a high-elf bookshelf, but the spcific one I can tell you when I log in. It's a small bookshelf with wide spaces between the shelves, and gives enough room for even the biggest lorebooks standing spine outward. Ypu do need to position them slightly over the shelf edge, as there's a bug where you can't read books under the lip on the top of the shelf, like an invisible wall is there. Otherwise, if you have the patience to shelve your book collections (there's an issue with rotating linked objects like books and them misaligning when placed), it's the best shelf I have found with a simple design that comfortably fits loreboks and actually looks nice like a real bookshelf.

get the prefilled bookcases and place your readable books on display shelves or the slanted northern elsweyr merchant tables
