How to gain quickly AP?

I try to level one character to grand overlord rank and I use buffs as much as possible like Mora's Whisper, food and events but my APs are just crawling. I've calculated that from tribune grade 2 rank that I am right now it will take approximately 3530 keeps to be conquered... with the current event buff...

Is there a way to speed this up?

Defending a Keep during a massive fight is a good way to go. The really long defenses that you eventually push back award a ton of alliance points. This was done to incentivise defending territory.

Another way is to kill other players efficiently and reliably. Easier said then done, I know, but ball groups have been infamous for getting a bunch of people who don't know any better to follow them around for the sole purpose of farming them for kills.

A third way is to heal your allies. If you heal missing health on an ally you gain alliance points for it, but it has to be missing health as over healing doesn't count.

BGs. Even if you come in dead last you get 15K+ for under 10 minutes work.

Delve buff (Blessing of War) in Cyro gives 20% AP, which stacks with the event bonus and War Torte (which increases gains towards your rank). But entering a delve is a little risky in a campaign with a long queue, since it may take a good 10 minutes or even more to get back to the overland instance. (You don’t go to the back of the line, but the game isn’t properly able to put you back in overland on demand a lot of the time.)

war tortes helped a ton, the colovian one (50%) is the easiest/cheapest to actually bulk craft

i found BGs to be horrible avg AP gain because of waiting in the queue, and 0 AP during the match (so shorter match = better AP technically)

keep defenses are definitely the best, and yes those last few ranks are extremely grindy lol

when you hit rank 40 (i think legate grade 2), your at the "halfway mark" for the total AP needed to hit rank 50

it took me some serious grinding last year during the pvp events in order to hit rank 50 from like rank 41 lol (in one of the events i made like 7 mil AP rank xp (since war tortes dont actually give more AP lol), and was basically in cyro for 4+ hours a day

well, it helps get it faster, if you are just participating in cyro almost every day even outside of events, and using war tortes as much as possible, it will help increase it over time

usually outside of an event i can make between 50-100k AP in like <2 hours if its an even pop active map (i usually run around solo but help defend keeps and such)

during an event, i can basically just double that, last sat i was in cyro for like 8 hours or so and earned almost 475k AP in that time (still roughly 50-60k per hour, though with keep defenses and low pop bonus it sometimes comes in huge bursts)

Not at all. Just that if you don’t do PvP constantly, it is typically a years-long goal. Rushing it may well lead to burnout. I pushed for it one Midyear when I was a few ranks off and had a break in teaching. In hindsight I should have asked myself what the rush was.

also if it helps, you only need to hit rank 49 for grand overlord to get associated achievements and the 5 stars, rank 50 is grand overlord rank 2 which effectively does nothing outside of the +1 more skill pt

this alone technically saves about 4.5 mil AP you need to earn if you only want to reach grand overlord lol

@Necrotech_Master I queue then go into IC or do other things. The queue is really quick when there is an event like this one. But for non-event, you are correct

if you queue into a BG from IC or cyro, do you get put back in IC or cyro?

that would probably be added annoyance to me if it kept dumping me back to overland after i got into IC for some farming while waiting

Play in campaigns where your alliance have low pop bonus + get 20% ap bonus in any delve in cyro by killing delve boss.

i played IC/Cyro last night during the event running around in a duo for like 3 hours and I made 390k AP. That's without any AP increase buff.

We mostly gained the AP killing people.

As I have several PvP characters (1 for cyroiil, 1 for IC, 1 for bg) I wish they could just throw all rank AP into one pool. As a note: I made these three characters before armory was available and collected ap separately on them.

It's the worst grind I've ever experienced in an MMO, which makes it so absurdly misplaced in relation to the rest of the game.
It's been 10 years now and I'll be lucky to get to Palatine (rank 35) this event. BGs certainly seem the fastest way.

It dumps you back into overland which is a nuisance. If I happen to be in Cyrodiil and having a solid run, I just decline or ignore the group finder. Its definitely a back up option. But I took notice after this thread yesterday and I'm averaging over 20K in AP in BGs. Not there to grind so never really cared, but its substantial during these events

i would probably agree that BG would be fast AP method if the queue (pops nearly instantly) and matches were fast (completed in under 7-8 min or half of the max BG match time)

i would probably do BGs more if i could pick specific modes so i can try to get achievements, its horribly trying to work on achievements when everything is RNG based

Sometimes I get really high AP for an activity, e.g. repairing walls/doors or turning a ressource and sometimes standard values.

I understand that it depends on some factors applicable to the campaign and maybe others but I don't seem to be able to determine when these factors are in favor of AP gain and when not. I've tried right now several campaigns, one where all fractions where at cap, another one where my fraction was weaker in player numbers. In both turning a ressource gave 3k AP.

There are low population and low score bonuses, either are multiplying your AP gains, you can find these on score screen. These are most noticeable modifiers, if it is present. Owning all home keeps provides +5% AP gain, owning enemy keep is +7% and each edge keep is +8%.

I'm pretty sure in practice any BG other than the daily random is a terrible way to farm AP, even with an unusually fast queue.

repairing still adds you to the tick list for defense ticks, if someone happens to die around the keep their AP is added to the tick bonus with some other factors (such as how many defenders there are)

a single repair (outside of the even with minimal bonuses) is only about 50 some AP per repair, but if you repair around when a keep fight happens (even extremely minor one with only 1 person who died) you would still get the defense tick

resources on the other hand are 1500 AP normally, the event bonus makes them 3000 AP base, ive capped resources in a low pop bonus area and gotten like 6600 AP
