MMO old-timer (48) seeks mature guild for PVE. PVP, and Crafting

Hi folks, my name is Terence and I'm looking for a guild.

I'm 48 years old, irl a composer of electronic music and a systems administrator. I've been involved in MMOGs since CompuServe and INN back in the early 90's (anyone remember Shadows of Yserbius or The Imagination Network?) I was playing EverQuest at launch (Ogre Shadowknight) and I've not stopped tanking since.

I've played just about every MMO (other than the final fantasy series, and Guild Wars I) and I've really enjoyed many of them, but as anyone who plays MMOs knows the community you play with heavily influences your experience in the game. Since leaving EQ, I've not found a guild/game combination that can compare (or that has the ability to endure). Some are too casual, others too hardcore. Some guilds are staffed by drama queens, some staffed by those who are far too uptight. Some talk politics and religion (one guild had a teabagger Obama-basher jesus freak who would not shut up, ever) and others are nothing but non-stop teen angst and drama. One told me that "MMOs aren't games they are a lifestyle choice" and although I rebelled against that at first, I kind of see the point, now.

To be honest, I'm very picky about guilds. I want to find people who are like me: game-focused, liberal, tolerant, friendly, and knowledgeable - the online equivalent of the folks I used to play pen-and-paper RPGs with back in the day. Freaks and geeks, as my wife would say. The folks that hang out at renaissance fairs, steampunk conventions and comic-book shops, the ones who devour fantasy books and film as if they are the only thing that can sustain them.

ESO is the first game in a long, long time that has me completely captivated, that ignites my passion for the small-group game (and crafting!). I want to dive in to the game the way I dived in to EQ back in the day. To that end, I'm trying to find a guild of old-school MMO veterans, people who are team-oriented, conscientious, mature, and drama free. People with an abiding love of the genre. If this describes you or your guild, contact me in game. I'm not really looking to start a guild, I'm looking to join one.

If you have big plans for your guild in ESO, and a spot for a middle-aged fantasy freak, send me a PM. Thanks for reading!

You can PM me here on the forums, or you'll likely find me in-game on my Orc Dragonknight Voidus Insidious, or his Templar counterpart Sabbatus Insidious. Or, you can mail me in game @Sabbatus. I hope to hear from you soon.

I guess I should have posted that my level 12 Orc is currently Aldmieri Dominion, but I'm not married to any particular faction at this point (although AD does seem to be owning PVP in the Dawnbreaker campaign I've been playing in.)

Hey Terence, I'm a Gemini, I like long walks on the beach and nights in front of a fire.

    KIDDING!!

My fellow geek husband and I are also in our early 40's, have been gamers since the inception of the 'Big Red Box' - yes, you know the one - and have MMORPGs since EQ1.

I applaud your philosophy and game attitude - though we do not typically hang out at ren faires, I LARP and both of us are in the SCA - so it's kinda ren-faireish?

Though we both have the 'end game' mentality, regretfully with the inception of RL jobs and a mortgage, we no longer have the 8+ hours a day to devote to the game that 'hard core' guilds require, or to be honest the prep that that 'end game' raiding takes. Still, it'd be nice to see the odd 'green text' run across one's screen, or a good group to go dungeon-diving with.

If you do find a home that fits your criteria, I'd love to hear about it. And although I'm perfectly content to run around with just my beloved to keep me company, if you find that perfect guild of 'old school thinkers', we may just put in an application ourselves.

    Good Hunting!

Ahhh, feels like home. I'm basically sailing in the same boat. Except I'm a tad older, 60 in June. My wife says I don't look or act like it. And that's just fine by me. I'm a retired Canadian Military man. I have 3 children, grown with families of their own. Youngest boy followed my footsteps and is a bombardier in the Canadian Artillery.

I find joining a good guild a major chore in most MMO's I've played. I'm a really easy going guy so I don't believe its my personality that is the problem...I'm not perfect but Im also not a sh*t disturber either.

I've been flip flopping around since the 5 day head start on what class-race to play. At the moment Im using a Red-Guard, dragon night.

I plan on keeping up on Blacksmithing and maybe one or two others crafts.
I would love an invite from a quild that wants people like the OP and myself.

    Hey Terence
Our guild Righteous Fury is a small one at the moment. Our core founders have been playing MMOs since EQ. Most of us are in or around the 40s mark in life as well. We don't put restrictions on age we do ask that people are mature.
Check out our site that we literally just put up: http://righteousfury1.enjin.com/

Sabbatus, I wish you luck on finding a guild and share most of your points when it comes to "today's Guilds". I'd blame WoW for most of the problems, but it also has to do with who's playing these games now. When a person of no special and real importance in the real world can make a completely new persona, basically a huge lie about what they really are, then it's harder to find an actual good and decent group.

I started off playing Earth & Beyond as my first MMO, then going over to Star Wars, which to me had the best crafting/collecting system in the beginning. After fighting the urge to follow the herd for almost a year, I finally played WoW. After 9 years, and plenty of other games in the middle trying to find that one WoW killer, I gave up on MMO's. I haven't touched one since, and only because I enjoyed the beta of ESO so much have I returned to the fold.

If you find a guild that contains "old school" players who actually give a crap about their fellow members, not just a clique of top players who keep everyone not in the top 20 under their boot-heels, let me know.
All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near.

All you fellow older gamers, consider popping in for a message @makarion . I've started a guild called "In Dulce Decorum", currently just for my love and I. We are pve players (zero interest in pvp), and we like exploring, crafting and dungeons in about equal measure. Hands are getting a bit too old for raiding (more's the pity), but that doesn't mean we need to slow down in doing what we enjoy: experience the game with friends old and new. We're mostly Aldmeri Dominion, by the way, and based in the US.
We've been around the block, and we've got the scars. No reason to get up in arms about stuff, since we've all been there. Share the memories and the gaming hours with fellow veterans. Couples very welcome: we're family people.

PS. Too old to take crap from people who think that foul language is "edgy". We're not the right place for you if you need to vent frequently and can't stick to being considerate. That includes us being liberal regarding lifestyle choices, and reticent when it comes to religion and politics in guild chat.

Wow, I clicked on the right thread. Like all of you I've been looking for a guild that is the right fit since the one I was in in wow imploded. In my 40's as well, I started out in EverQuest which is where I found my wife. Most of the guilds we have found are as has been observed--clicks that don't want to work together for the greater guild or they just want to play in that click, throwing up a 'wall' to any who would like to join their hunting; or ranters/gripers/drama queens. Though my wife has found new life in RP in Rift, that is not really my bag, as it were. I would very much like to find a group to hunt, level, explore, dungeon delve with in this game.
Though I have 3 characters my focus atm is my nightblade furball in the Aldmeri Dominion named Nyssia Wyvar. (I have no idea what my '@name' is in game.)

love that so many people in this game feel the same way I do! No matter what guild you join it was nice to read your post. My guild has a lot of my RL table top gaming friends in it and other people we have met through MMO's and their friends and few people we just recruited who seem pretty cool. We love faire and rp although we don't really do that stuff in MMO's. I can't promise that no one will ever bring up religion or politics but when it does come up it generally is a comment on some leader being stupid and we move on. I can speak for the people I am friends with personally in this guild. None are extremists. Different backgrounds, different beliefs but none of those things affect how we game together or how well we get along. PM me if you want in our guild!

I'm right there with you all, though maybe on the younger side. I'll turn 32 this summer. Ebonheart, but willing to make a jump. I've had a few successful guild experiences and always found that the older the average population, the more relaxed, friendly, and fun. I think the distinction between hardcore and casual is more about a different set of priorities than it is about achievement in-game; I'm more focused on enjoying the guild as a mutually-beneficial, social structure than as a ladder to climb. I'll be following this thread to see where we "compatibles" end up--or maybe we start out own!

43 here. Have made Avatars of Discord in the Daggerfall Covenant. Looking for "experienced" gamers:) OK a place for all us old guys and gals to have a home. Created AoD back in the early days of EQ. Have used the name in many games since. Not looking for the Uber, first, most fell. Just a group that can do whatever they want whenever they want. I like PVP and want to have a presence there. But I also like to craft and troll chat in cities:) PVE is the core of any game. If you would like to talk send me a tell in game on Gizmaul or Gordoil.

We're currently mostly leveling but are starting to do more dungeons and PVP as people level up. Partook of the beta testing and love what they have developed. I'm in the game as 'drtyoman' so say hi if we bump.

    • We understand people have significant others and lives, and therefor everything is optional
    • Many of the people in our guild are married or gaming couples
    • We are what we jokingly refer to as casual hardcore, and are here to have fun

I'm still getting to know people, feeling them out and testing the waters. Since we have 5 slots, I can see folks having 1 crafting/trade guild, one pve guild, one pvp guild, one personal guild (for extra bank space, since it is so necessary) and for the last slot I envision an over-arching pvp alliance guild.

I'm beginning to entertain the idea of starting my own guild, since so many folks seem interested in what I had to say.

    Hey there,

We are growing guild on AD (EU), I'll just pop our recruitment message below so it is quick and straight to the point ;)

"We are a guild who pride themselves on being different to the rest. As a home to parents, have-to-leave-all-of-a-sudden-kind-of-folk, social people and old farts.

We have a strict "No children" policy because most of us have them at home.

We hope to provide a fun environment for everyone to explore Tamriel the way they please, whether it be PvE, PvP, RP etc

We understand that real life is more important than a game and are using that to form the foundation of what we hope to be a great guild.

    Visit http://www.blackratsociety.enjin.com for more information/apply."

Or give me (@Chammy84) or our GM (@thunderpile) /w in game @Chammy84

Hope you all find what you are looking for soon.

    Best of luck

    Hello Sabbatus,

You may like to check out my guild, the Fangs of Ironglaive. We're still a fairly small guild (17 members as of right now), however we have high aspirations for the future. We are a PvE, trading, social, and crafting guild that plans on eventually branching off into PvP. Like you, we believe that a gamer's community is everything. Therefore, we created this guild in the hopes of creating a solid community of mature friendly players. We are looking for respectful yet fun-loving individuals who come from all walks of life. Based on your description my guild seems like a perfect fit for you; both philosophy wise and playstyle wise. Since you stated you prefer to be messaged in game, I will message you there as well. Hope to hear from you soon!

Looks like I found the perfect thread. My husband would debate my age sometimes although my ID says I'm 43. With two grown children and four beautiful grandchildren I have a very full life. However with being unable to work, I have lots of time to game.

My first online game was NWN, from there I discovered I wasn't too keen on rp. I've spent many, many hours playing LOTRO, SWTOR, and Rift. Questing, crafting and exploring are the ideal ways to spend my time in game. Typically I prefer to support my guild behind the scenes, ie supplying what crafting items I can. Once I can get over my extreme shyness, time permitting too, I try to participate in some group outings as well.

I'm looking for a group on the NA server that can put up with my weird self. Right now I have one character in DC, eventually I will spread to the other two alliances as well.

Send me a tell in game or a message here. I look forward to meeting you!

weellll.. I looked in the mirror this morning and there was an old lady there, I swear I don't know where she came from but she wouldn't leave so I said hi B)

I am mostly into PvE and gathering/crafting but the PvP in this game looks fun so I'll probably at least give it a shot. I don't care If I'm among the first to be top level and top geared but I absolutely DO want to be in a guild that plays regularly and who's goal is to enjoy ALL the content, including helping all members get geared up, get the group practice they need and the opportunities to take on the endgame content.

So.. Sabbatus, while no one is going to call me a geek for sure I've been playing MMO's for 10 years, this is my 4th (6th if you count Diablo's 2 and 3), and I too would be very interested in talking to you should you decide to form a guild or if not, to find out where you end up. I currently have a lvl 10 Templar that was supposed to be a healer but is looking more like a mage than healer atm in Daggerfall but I would not be adverse to rolling a new Templar (healer for real this time) in a different area. Her name is Amara Zhi.
