Weapon skill lines as main new feature of a chapter?

ZOS is known to introduce new skill lines with new chapters, which is understandable - promotion, marketing, etc. Now we're getting Scribing, which is something we've been asking about - well, spellcrafting, but still.

How do you think, would it be necessary for ZOS to introduce new weapon skill lines with a chapter, or with some 'minor' patch?

Chapter promotion, teasing always hypes us up greatly, but here, with Polearms, Hand to Hand, Crossbow or some other ideas, would it really have to be with the introduction of a chapter? They could di it as they did with IA - that was brilliant!

A weapon skill line (or more than one ) should not be tied to a chapter but be tied to another content patch. Making it part of a chapter would cause a lot of negative feedback, something an old game like ESO can't really afford.

Ya know, sadly I don't think we will ever see a new weapon skill line for one simple reason.

Every motif in game would have to have the new weapon type made in that style.
      But it gets worse....
Becasue the old motifs have lower resolution than the new motifs, if they were able to create 120+ new weapons in their respective styles, the older motifs would have their lower resolution with the new weapon made in the higher resolution creating a sort of disconnect.

And when you consider there is no way to really monetize the new weapon skins....well there is your answer. Its highly doubtful we see a new weapon skill line (even though magicka desperately deserves one).

That is unless they decide not to make new weapon skins for old motifs and we all know how well that will go over with the community.

They wouldn't have to add new weapons to old styles.
Apperance wise only new content would have a chance of drop of new weapons, sort of like some sets won't drop certain weapons.
Outfit/crafting wise it would be just like every other motif or style that a player did not learn.

Yea I personally think this is a flawed argument - primarily because nobody in the community would prefer having all the older styles over not having a new weapon in the game at all. They could very easily launch a new weapon and then in following updates add them to previous motif styles. By no means would they need to add everything all at once - that would be a monumental task for the artists.

Also, they could start with something like unarmed prior to spears/halberds, crossbows, wands, etc.

I think we definitely will see new weapons in the future - just a matter of when :)

This, and if the reasoning is that they don't want to add more modeling to the game weapon wise in general.... well, there's still no good excuse because there's already new weapon line ideas they could do that use current models. More staves, for example. There's currently one DPS magic weapon and one healing weapon. There are so many other schools of magic in TES lore that could be made into staves and I'd like to see an alternative healing type. Same with an actual spellsword line. Swords already exist. No reason such a line couldn't use the models the same way one hand+shield and dual wield use the same models.

Ohhh, I do love such optimism. But maybe it's just stating facts - both, for me.

Spears, Halberds, Poles, Glaives, Naginatas, as well as some knuckles for H2H - all of those could use assets that are already in the game, not to mention that we have some animations (eg. Khenarthi's Roost monks or those of Pyroture Encratis).

My wild guess is that if - when? - we were to get those weapons (and their skills), it would be when ZOS sent us to Akavir.

Heck, let ZOS make a contest for the best skill line for those. They'd flooded for sure, BUT it would just leave their team of magicians to do their magic with skills.

I'd like to be mistaken but, I think the Scribing system means that no new weapon skill lines are likely coming.

For a weapon skill line to occur the skill lines would likely need to both present something new and also provide similar value to the existing skill lines.

Doing that was somewhat challenging before Scribing but, after Scribing it potentially gets significantly harder. As your new skills need to be unique even when compared against a customizable ability.
