Seeing DPS Archanists is just....depressing

The massive damage they do right now....bleh...make me feel like not even bothering to play any DPS character in group content.

So because a class deals damage you can't be bothered to play?

I don't want to put words into the OPs mouth, but I think it's the *massive* part of arcanist DPS they're concerned about. Like, their own other-class DPS, which is far weaker in their opinion, makes their character feel worthless by comparison

Ya what Kite42 said. I have most of my characters duel or tri-purpose so...been tanking and healing more :)

    Fair enough,

I cannot play any other class other than Magsorc, Dragonknight Tank and Temp Healer. I have leveled all other classes to 50 and i just dont find them fun to play, i always revert to my standard 3.

Arcanist is fairly easy to learn and deal damage on. It does comparable end-game damage to other classes with the right setup, and a little bit of practice. There's also no learning curve for newer players when it comes to light attack weaving. You should still do it, but it won't affect your damage much like it does with other class rotations.

Other classes, for the most part, tend to require the player to learn their rotation super well, and be very good at light attack weaving. If you don't, you won't hit end-game numbers. But the end-game numbers are just as high if not higher in some instances than Arcanist.

All this tells me is you're being discouraged by arcanist because you're not able to hit end-game numbers with other classes, but you see more people able to do that with arcanist. In Pugs, you probably won't see people hitting end-game numbers often. But with arcanist being so accessible, you'll see them hitting those numbers in Pugs. The damage floor of Arcanist is higher than with other classes. But the ceiling isn't higher. There is no other class that gets 50% of their damage from one skill, after all. That should tell you that it's not a difficult class to learn.

Thanks....that's probably it. Next time I go into a trial I'll look for Acanists. That said, I haven't bought Necrom yet. After U35 I wasn't sure I was even going to look at this game again. Maybe I'll get it on sale next time around.

Arcanists burn through packs of mobs fast, but if you want to really be sick make a Heavy Attack 1 bar oakansoul sorc with two pets.

I do TONS more damage on him than I do my arcanist.

you aren't playing arc right then lol.

i can parse 113 or something on stam sorc, 90k on heavy attack sorc, 116 on arc.
a heavy attack sorc will not out dps an arc who knows how to arc.

I run magicka not stamina, I don't run daggers either. Both are oakensoul builds.

I can get more done in the world regarding world bosses on my easymode HA sorc than I can on my arcanist. Swapping to heavy armor for tanking kills the arcanist DPS, the sorc pulls ahead.

@Pixiepumpkin I'd love to see a build for that...been looking at an easier time then light attack weaving thanks.

    Its pretty simple.
I think sorcs are best becasue of passives. Not sure, but it works.

    Basically I run
    64 into magicka
5x Sergeant on the weapons, neck, 1 ring and shoulder (I do this for a reason, but it would be best to run it on chest)
5x Orders wrath mixed with light and heavy. I bascially run 3 heavy, 3 light, and 1 medium. I do this to "wash" out the negative effects of heavy/light, and for some armor, maintain some penetration/crit. etc.
1x Oakensoul. I run bloodthirsty, but I think arcane or infused would be fine (I might go back to arcane on all three jewelry)
1x monster helm to your liking (I use slimecraw)

I often swap out the body pieces (chest, legs, belt, gloves and boots) for Aetherial Ascension if I am taking on a world boss, I swap out unstable wall for the undaunted inner rage for a taunt. I might swap helms as well (

The "proper" HA build uses a different set, but when I was testing them I did the best with orders wrath and I like that its craftable so I can mix set weights.

I then run the volatile familar, twilight matriartch, Daedric Prey, Unstalble wall of Elements, Bound Aegis (you can flex this one, I just like the extra magicka it provides) and I run charged Atronoch. I think you can flex this one as well, I just like keeping sorc abilities on the bar for the extra % to spell damage.

I run wrathful strikes, fightning finesse, weapons expert, deadly aim for blue CP

Rotation is Volatile familair, Daedric prey, Wall of Elements HA x 2, Daedric prey, HA x 2 until you refresh wall and monkey (familair). Its pretty easy. I also use the matriarch a lot in trials to off heal, but I dont tell healers, I do it only to take pressure off, but dont want them to slack of.

I don't think its a perfect, dialed in build. I am sure math experts can tweak it better, but I really enjoy playing it. If I run the pure DPS mode, I generally pull 14 to 15% of the overall DPS in pug trials, even vets. So That is good enough.

I made an outfit for him I really like. Between that, and his strengh/flexability, I really enjoy playing him.

No issues. PM me if you need a greater breakdown, but its not that complicated and I think has a lot of wiggle room.

All I know is that when I get 75k crits in a trial, I get a big smile on my face. :D

aside from the offensive animations which block players paying in first person view, i find them boring. That is i'm playing in a dungeon the other day trying to get my endeavors using weapon skills so i'm spamming my LA and my one weapon skill and then an arcanist comes and lays waste to everything b4 i can hit much. boring! also i had to go find things after dungeon ended to spam my weapon skill on in the wilds to get my endeavor since i couldnt get hardly anything in the dungeon.

In my Planesbreaker core the arcanists do 30-90K more aoe damage than the sorc.

ya, I did not mean to sugges that sorcs do more, they don't I certainly do not. But I do much harder single target than the arcanist (he is magicka, one bar, oakensoul. same as sorc).
