It's been, VERY, tiring, trying to build my MagWarden Cryomancer into something I can live with stat-wise, but for a while I thought I had it at a good enough place. Until tonight, when I realized I wasn't utilizing any of my Undaunted Mettle Passive, and when I swapped out my Light Hands for a Medium weight, I enjoyed seeing my Max Resources get higher, BUT, my Spell Critical Chance which I had sitting at 50.whatever% dropped to 49.6% :/ 0.4%! That's all I needed to get back! I NEEDED, to get back, I felt capable with 50% Crit Chance, I couldn't play without it. So I had an idea,

I'm using the Thief, all my Divines armor pieces increases the Mundus effect. All the small body pieces are purple quality. I'll just make one of them Gold. That changes the Divines trait from 8.1% to 9.1%. That's probably all I'd need! Put it in the bank, logged my Crafter, had to buy some extra Wax, improved, logged back to Warden, equipped the piece and... 49.6% -> 49.7%. :#

An extra 1% Divines effect only had a ZERO POINT ONE percent change to my Crit Chance. You can guess I was properly disgruntled. I was becoming desperate, staring at my character sheet, staring at my Skill Passives, staring at my Equipment. Then, another idea. If making my body piece Gold quality gave me 0.1% extra Crit Chance, and I was already so close to 50%, what if I just made the rest of my Armor Gold? I counted. I needed to improve three more Divines pieces to Legendary. I had, THREE more purple Divines pieces.

Threw em all in the bank, logged my Crafter, spent 120,000g on a chunk of Wax, improved them all, logged back to my Warden, threw em all back on, and,

kEewZLE.png

FLAT 50%.

I don't care anymore. I spent a LOT of Gold on something so petty and frivolous and I know it takes me forever to gain money but I don't care anymore. I managed to eek out some extra Magic and Health AND kept my Crit Chance at 50%. I don't have a problem I swear I'm fine. NO DON'T POINT OUT MY SPELL RESIST IS ONLY 78 AWAY FROM 15K STAHP.

    I get it.
I do the same with my HP and resources (have to be even), and to a lesser extent with other stats (have to hit thresholds). Makes the build crafting a bit more challenging
I usually end up running an infused small piece for the last 100 points or a single stat glyph, just so my mag doesn't go over.

Order's Wrath might actually put out more damage as it increases your crit damage on top of your crit chance over something that would give a flat increase to crit chance, like Mother's Sorrrow. Not to add fuel to the fire, but have you tried Gourmand?

    Sorry, too soon? :p

Gourmand sounds like a helpful set but my Character's an Argonian with 30% Crit Damage buffed already which I'm fine with. If I really wanted to push it I'd have rerolled into a Khajiit, but I already have four other Khajiit in the lineup.

Besides my little tizzy over that stupid Spell Resist I think NOW, I'm settled with my build....it IS too bad I can't wear a Monster set like Nunatak, cause of the Master's Staff.

........I just wondered what it'd look like if those Medium Order's Wrath Hands, were instead Heavy. :/

i have a bosmer arcanist that sits at like 52% crit chance

and it kind of makes sense a divines change of 1% resulted in 0.1% actual crit change because that 1% is increasing the value of the crit mundus stone, which on the scale of things is a rather small increase (it adds up with all 7 pc of armor)

To be fair even with all light armor you still get 2% resource buff from Undaunted Mettle. The change of one item to medium lets it jump to 4%. Introducing a heavy piece gets it to 6%. However as you say removing that light piece reduced your crit because of the passives, dropping to 5 light pieces instead of 6 would have a similar impact. At least with 1 medium you bump up your crit damage and raw damage by a slight margin, heavy armor does not really give you any extra damage capabilities. I think you're at a good point as it is so no need to fret about optimizing that Mettle passive.

My main thought of changing the Medium to a Heavy was adding just that little bit more Armor which would round out my Spell Resist to 15k. (and settle my OCD by having that at a nice round number).

Although I'm looking at the Medium Armor Passives and even with one body piece I'm getting increases, right? 2% Critical Damage and Healing, 4% Stam Recovery, 2% Spell Damage.

Correct. A heavy piece will give you a little additional health and help your resource recovery a bit but in terms of dps the medium piece will be much more helpful

@ArchMikem , I respect your OCD theorycrafting impulses.

Once you have your PVE build perfected, I encourage you to dip your toe into the PVP pond…

Are you incorporating light armor pieces into your build and have your light armor passive maxed? Light armor increases your crit chance as well as your offensive peen. Also, try slotting the magelight ability from the mages guild skill line (or hunters eye from fighters guild if that is your thing), or chug Spell Power Alliance Pots that also give you major prophecy. I think you're overlooking some sources of crit chance. I can get a character to 55+ crit chance easily if I want, but it comes at the cost of weapon damage and crit damage (not crit chance).

Every single Mag character I have uses Magelight and even Meteor on the front bar for those passive buffs, it's just being Argonian, and ZOS has made it much harder over several updates to build Crit Chance.

Yeah, being an argonian makes it tough. They're actually fantastic for support characters, but make very poor DPS IMO. All my argonians are tanks because of the potion passive makes it super easy to sustain.

Wait people play with purple gear? Even when you upgraded multiple peices of gear for only 120k?? That won't even be enough for just one gold armour piece on PCEU.

Wax is selling on XBOX NA for about 5k or 6k per I think, inflation hasn't hit us as hard as you guys. Even so a lot of people do still play not bothering to upgrade to purple cause of the miniscule Stat to cost ratio. Only things really worth improving are weapons and large body pieces.
