Where’s the love for Curse Eater?

This seems like an entirely underutilized set with how good the bonuses are. Healing yourself cleanses you, as opposed to Mara’s Balm or Hist which require an outside cleanse to get the benefit. Is there any particular reason this set doesn’t get more use in a world of DOT builds now?
DO. NOT. WIPE. (in game OR out!)

very good point and I would add Wyrd Tree as another set I rarely see despite the amount of Proc Sorcs and Proc arcansit around in PvP.

Because wearing this set makes you a danger to anyone you heal.

The advent of Plaguebreak made every single purge in the game dangerous to use at anytime. Throwing on Curse Eater is even worse, because you can't really control when and where the purge happens.

It's almost like they shouldn't try to solve problems (purge spam) with sets (Plaguebreak).

Is 'Hist' effected by Battle Spirit or is it one of those sets like draugrkin?

To add on what @CameraBeardThePirate said, Curse Eater can affect not only the wearer of the set but anyone they heal. It used to be a staple set in organized groups, on top of being able to use purge abilities (purge, netch, templar ritual's purify, the necro ones). This becomes a serious danger when one or more people in the group are affected by plaguebreak which can effectively wipe an entire group if they're relatively close together. So now we just spam shields instead o:)

And Hist sap is affected by battle spirit, yes.

So with the inclusion of Plaguebreak, it has completely nullified all of the sets that are capable of cleansing negative effects? That seems like a clearly unbalanced effect from a single armor set

Unfortunately. That's not to say you can't use it but there's now a significant risk associated with it, that was previously nonexistent.

Not in all settings. Casual PvP? Knock yourself out, purge all you want. BGs? Usually OK to purge there - but know that as soon as you go up against more coordinated groups, or basically any bomber, you're a liability to yourself and anyone around you if you purge.

To all those discussing Plaguebreak here - I think it's only fair to mention that Plaguebreak is seeing less general use these days and has become more of a niche set. Meaning, I only see people really gearing it when they realize a ball group is in range and, even then, they tend more toward Azureblight instead and/or with it.

I've been getting more confident in purging and finding it safe in 99% of situations. I guess I'm just trying to suggest that ALL purge-related sets are much more safe today than they were last... year? ... when plaguebreak was all the rage.

In small-man fights, I find purging to be a necessity these days with the status effect builds. And most often, when I have seen plague on someone or my purge has popped it... I can't think of a player wearing it who felt like an actual threat.
Again - that's specific to small fights. We rarely run with more than 3 in our group and, unless zerg surfing, rarely have to fight more than 6 or so.

Zerg surfing? All bets are off and I'd recommend avoiding Curse-eaters, Wyrd Tree, Mara, etc. etc. as others have.

Wyrd tree and Maras seem to work well together. It appeared I was getting big heals ever 15 sec when wyrd removed all my harmful affects and Mara seemed to proc. Not confirmed though. Maybe it just appeared to synergise
