Are epic companion gear worth buying/which companion is worth using?

So i wonder does penetration is important when it comes to companion gear?
Is it worth having purple companion items?
Another thing i wonder which companion do you recommend?
I am using mirri because of bonus bags and very specific negative traits which i do not do.
Bastian is out of the question since i loose rep with him when i steal/murder someone.
Isobel Veloise - that -10 rep for murder is kinda big, especially if it doesn't have a big cooldown.

When it comes to better choices we have Azandar al-Cybiades and Sharp-as-Night.
So which one would you recommend?
Cheers,

You should definitely consider deactivating the companions when you go stealing and murdering NPCs. Afaik there is no comp that gets positive rapport from murder. There really us no use to having them around.

You should choose your conpanion based on your combat needs.
Sharp is the best Tank, imo. Isobel is good, too.
Azandar is the best Healer, but Mirri doesn't suck either.
Bastian is the best choice for Oakensoul Heavy Attack builds.
I have heard Ember is the best DPS, but I don't know if that is true. I dont think they should DPS. They are best as Tanks and Support.

Purple companion gear is worth every piece of gold. Come buy some from me. 😉
Just kidding. Only purple gear with Quickened trait makes a difference.

    every companion is worth using.
you can put them in whichever role you want.
though i do agree Azandar is very good at healing.
i have also had Mirri, Ember, Bastian, and isobel as healers and they were all awesome.

i recommend completing their quests and achievements and playing with all of them to see which one you like more and to get their Keepsakes permanently.

and purple gear is useful though you can also collect it from killing monsters.
    miaow! i'm Luna ( she/her ).

Ember is fine with criminal behavior. Look at the racial passives and class to determine which role to give each companion. Otherwise any companion can fill any role equally well for the most part. I think Azander, being an arcanist, is probably the strongest tank. Ember is probably the best DPS as a kajiit sorcerer. But the differences in roles for companions is minimal I think. In the end, the perks from max leveling the companions are probably the biggest benefit from having them.

I run without companion since I have all their passives unlocked, just find them more annoying than useful most of the time, but I will use them on a tricky world boss or to solo dsa. Run Telvanni Efficiency and equip your companion with some quickened gear and you can make them always have a skill off cooldown. Purple gear gives little benefit for a high cost, only get it when you're committed to a companion's build (and can afford it). And most important: either you or your companion needs to slot and use a taunt. It will make your fights much more predictable, and people joining you for a world boss will thank you.

@Zodiarkslayer Sharp doesn't care if you murder people. But he gets upset when you pickpocket the poor. :)

I do agree, put the companion away when stealing or blade of woeing.
