What happened to Nightblades is unforgivable

Extremely weak, convoluted and nerfed skills, lack of balance and completely outdated.

Nightblade was my preferred class, it was fun and pretty engaging to use. It was the thief class, the assassin. No more. Forgotten, neglected. This is so sad.

NB is one of the sacrifices of zos not balancing PvE and PvP separately. NB has been very poor in pve for a long time now, but due to its strength in pvp, any enhancement to it will lead to dissatisfaction in the PvP community. For a TESO sized game, a single Battle Spirit is nowhere near enough for the balance needed, and if NB wants to come out of its current predicament, more refined balancing is necessary

EDIT: Have the buffs only benefited PvP then? I know NB isn’t generally the class of choice for group PvE DPS, but I thought the class was in a better place for DPS than warden or necro or sorc without pets.

Now regarding aesthetics / visual cues, I would agree that what’s been done to the class is unforgivable — the permanent red glow that appears over equipped weapons just for having Grim Focus slotted on either bar. :disappointed:

NB is one of the most OP classes in the game. It is the most OP class in PvP right now. NB has everything; the strongest burst heal in the game, and the strongest burst damage at the same time.

I actually enjoyed my Nightblades until they became suffused with that horrid (IMO) permanent red glow that only I can see tied to an important skill choice. Now they don’t see much use at all.

This is how I would balance Nightblades

    - Shadow Cloak would be a heal and function much like Dark Cloak does now but without the minor protection buff (As that is what Dark Cloak would add) Shadowy Disguise would grant you reduced stealth detection when slotted in addition to the heal effect, the only difference between the morphs is you would choose between Reduced Stealth Radius or Minor Protection, no going invisible in the middle of combat.

    - Cripple and it's Morphs would become instant and lose the projectile effect.

    - Magicka Flood would also grant an increase in Stamina

    - Veiled Strike and it's Morphs would be moved to the Assassination skill tree and trade positions with Blur (It makes no sense being in the Shadow Skill Tree when all the other conjured weapon abilities of the NB are in the Assassination skill tree and Blur makes no sense being in that tree either)

I love my Nightblade, she's my main, but underpowered for sure. I mostly use her for crafting and if I do dungeons or some such her role is healer. And yes, sometimes it does seem that PVP is why PVE can't have nice things...

The class is so lacking behind in raids in terms of damage. Which makes an assassin class only played as healer if your group wants a safe route. Barrier spam with high ultimate regen.

If your raiding group wants group wide Major Berserk this class is not even selected in roster. Most rosters are Arcanist stack and they do slot Camouflaged Hunter which gives both Major Savagery and Prophecy, which makes Sorcerer and Nightblade give effectively same buff due to hybridization and Sorcerer has group wide Major Berserk with ultimate.

You can of course still hit acceptable numbers for trifecta runs, but why bother with extreme action per minute play when there is Arcanist. There is also community behavior. They do not even recruit Nightblade damage dealer.

Nightblade in PvE is extremely lackluster, although PvP they are a dominant bomber/ganker class (albeit more difficult to play than most).

But PvE I’m with you. Stamblade in particular has suffered the most, with almost no innate survivability in combat and what strengths they do have are pretty easily outdone by other classes. I seem to recall Surprise Attack giving major breach a long time ago, but now it’s only minor (and it seems concealed weapon is the favored of the two with its many buffs). Killer’s blade execute past 50% isn’t actually effective until around 25-30%, making it on par with Impale but at a greater cost with distance from a boss. It would be amazing to be able to use Siphon abilities more as a stamina based class, or at least make them stronger even for Magicka without the necessity of using the Soul Reaver set. As of now the majority of the skill set is out of touch for stamina blades, with the exception of Leeching Strikes.

DK is possibly the most balanced class in the game, having usable skills across the spectrum regardless of tank, DPS, and slightly lesser degree healer. Nightblades have almost no utility as a tank, are just Ulti-gen bots as healers, and run towards the bottom of the pack in terms of DPS.

NB is not s tier in pve but not bad and one of the best in pvp. I have a mag blade with bastion as healer that can solo most everything in game. The class is just heavy micro managed and has a harder learning curve.

How comes nbs have bad survivability in pve? With all the defensive options they have I find it pretty good for soloing, my favourite even.

I guess I meant more survivability outside of vigor. I’m just not seeing the defensive options for them, but I’m mostly speaking from the stamina PvE side. PvP they have healthy offering, mirage, refreshing path, and magicka based have Sap and Siphon Soul. Maybe add in some innate evasion, which would be in keeping with the ethos of the character.

I think both DK and Arcanist are well balanced. Clearly many classes need a boost in dealing damage in PvE (NB) or both PvE and PvP (necro, non-pet-sorc, necro, maybe warden and templar, and definitely necro).

Nightblades do well as tanks though. Not meta but, I’ve run a lot of vet dungeons and trials with NB tanks. I wouldn’t mind an additional boost there though.

For tankblades I would like for zos just to remove the standing still requirement on dark cloak and make it based off heavy armor count or something else. Its just annoying in pve, and doesn’t have the impact they were looking for in pvp; a separate stat for healing output would. Also, they need to improve bolstering darkness’ pve end game utility its been mostly useless for 6+ years now.

    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

I haven’t enjoyed NB damage since the spammable last changed. I can’t seem to find my flow with them now, at least as a damage dealer. I don’t mind healing on them, which just seems odd since they’re an assassin flavored class. It’s fun though, so is tanking.

Don’t forget sorcerer, reduced to pet-sitter (nothing wrong with a summoner playstyle but it shouldn’t be the ONE useful thing that sorc can do. :/

And vampire. It’s pretty much a one trick Undeath passive pony — essential for PvP and pretty much garbage for PvE. And I’m still bitter about no bat swarm without also transforming into an alchemical monstrosity.

I agree it sucks that Bosmer don’t have a stealth bonus but at least their passives are better than they first were after the change. That’s something at least.
