Major Lag in gameplay recently

I'm really struggling with major lag with combat and overall play in PVE recently. I believe this was after the recent patch to change PVP caps. I have checked to see if it's a network issue but no change in performance for me. I've tried multiple times of the day. Am I the only one experiencing this?

I'm on NA servers on PC/Mac (no difference for me.)

Me too. I've had such big lag on a few occasions (including today) that when I finally got into the game, I found that my keybinds hadn't even loaded properly, and my character was using the defaults, so I had to quit the game and restart. It's definitely more than my geographical location accounts for.

Frame freeze every 5 minutes, indeed it's like watching a slideshow since last patch.
Lag so bad it caused my death a couple of times.

My wife and I had some issues yesterday. We were spiking around 900ms (we have 500 up/down fiber). It was taking me about 5 to 10 seconds to harvest a node (I saw the spike while farming). She commented to me that NPC's were walking super fast everywhere.
Hard to say if this was an issue on zos end though, although net performance has seemed to decline in game Vs other games or activities (no issues streaming on our end).

I was experiencing some stuttering and general performance issues after the PVP caps reverted. Realized that somehow, FPS had been uncapped with the last update (was previously capped at 100 FPS for me), and the stuttering was happening when my FPS was in the 150-200 range in major cities. I manually edited the User Settings text file to reintroduce an FPS cap, and all the stuttering went away, back to smooth and silky. Still have some occasional ping spikes, but nothing major.

Those of you experiencing micro freezing and stutters may want to try capping FPS again on your end. Alcast has a guide here on how to adjust your FPS caps: https://alcasthq.com/eso-unlock-fps-cap-guide/

Out of interest, are you guys with lagging and misfiring skills using wired connections for internet, mouse and keyboard, or wireless?

    All wired here. PC-NA

Performance varies very drastically and unintelligibly (to me). The same HM prog one week apart can have decent performance or performance so terrible that 3-5 people routinely suffer from ping spikes and disconnect the whole two hours. Last week I got spikes between 3.4-8.7s in latency for an hour on Ansuul (my typical ping is 58-69ms), and Mystic Orb took six presses without going off at all; this week, I didn’t see anything above 160 or so, and skills worked as well as they can. Same trial, same fights, same day and time, and no event either week.

This was also my experience in Cyrodiil. One day a faction stack will lag but is doable (40-60 fps on 5600x 7900XT 32GB 3600mHz RAM); another day it will be a <10fps slideshow for the whole group and skills require those 5-6 presses. This was all well after the main server replacements but before the recent testing.

The fact it happens to multiple people in group (whether PvE or PvP) also suggests to me that much of this isn’t a client-side issue.

I think that's a fair conclusion, although it could of course point to a network issue rather than a server one, especially where the group or guild experience is the same for players from the same part of the country or world. Either way, the unpredictability of it makes it difficult to track down or replicate.

Yes, in the past there have been localized disruptions for sure. (There was once an issue in much of the northwestern US, iirc, that was out of ZOS' control.) In the cases I mentioned above, however, we have players from NA, Europe, Africa, and various parts of Asia all experiencing similar issues at the same time. I should have mentioned that initially.

    ETA: corrected locations

Also forgot to mention that some days there are instances when the whole group (or at least most) gets a freeze at the same time. I know sometimes the client freezes on an individual basis, but the group freezes are curious to me. I figure it must be the server at those moments.

I use wireless internet (with fairly reliable downstream of 100Mbps or more, and upstream of 30Mbps or more), and wired keyboard and mouse.

Didn't someone hypothesise in an earlier iteration of these network lag threads that the lag might be due to some specific routers used between the player's location and the EU/NA server? (I think someone mentioned Akamai or something?)

Akamai is the DDOS prevention service that ZOS uses. If it's possible for you to talk to your ISP, explain the issues, and ask them to route to the servers in a different pattern, you can try that. I don't know how "normal" ISPs react, but it's always a good thing to ask - if they say no, you're no worse off than before, and if they can help you may be much better off!

Since I have only satellite through Hughes Net, I can't really ask them to re-route. But I don't have much lag (outside of the time to the sat and back) so for me it doesn't really matter.

I hope your ISP can help you out!
