Degradation Speed/Cost

I understand the game is right out the door and people have a lot of unrealistic complaints. But please keep in mind, I'm usually very understanding of flaws and what not in games and actually profoundly against outright complaining unless the problem is pretty serious or if the problem isn't perceptual but rather unanimous in discontent.

So, my thoughts, I'm wondering if my one complaint about the game has been noticed by others aside from myself. It seems at level 30+ that I am being forced to loot everything I can for gold in order to pay for my gear. Even if I don't die my gear seems to degrade so fast that all the gold I previously made is then spent to repair my equipment. Costing around 2k each time. I know that the armor degradation is pretty unique to ESO and past elder scrolls games but I'm wondering if they have really considered repair costs. It seems like for players who really enjoy grinding for gear, or sets, this repair cost becomes quite detrimental.

Maybe it's just me, but hey, that's why I made a forum.

Let me know your ideas on the matter.

Good question, but I'm not sure you're going to get much response just yet: not many 30's yet.

I agree somewhat even still being low level. It seems that degradation/damage to armor happens at quite a fast pace. And occurs for even minor bumps (I've had it happen jumping off a smallish rock, and even on dismounting from my horse) that don't seem like they should cause that much damage to occur. It's a minor concern but one that should probably be addressed in some way.

It's been annoying how fast everything degrades, yes, and my sole character at the moment is only level 8. I don't get a lot of gold right now. If I remember correctly, I only have a couple hundred right now because I spent it on various things. I like the degradation process on a general level, but I don't like spending several hundred over the course of one day of playing when I only -get- several hundred over the course of one day of playing.

I have found that it is cheaper to either make new armor with crafting or buy repair kits to fix your armor.

I'm very surprised at how fast my heavy armor degrades just from normal combat. Scaling back the cost a little bit would be a good move.

I will sign on to this The degradation is too fast to be realistic

Degradation is far too fast, my experience is only with heavy armor so far but yikes! I can't make enough gold to keep up with the cost!

Especially when you prefer crafting and breaking down gear rather than selling it. Then it loses all that value too. Spend 1k+ on a trip of stuff that sells for 600 after being broken down >_> bullocks.

B - or anyone, where do we buy the repair kits btw please?

The repair kits only go so far when you have big bills. I, too, think repair costs are way out of balance to what you can earn. By the way, repair kits can be bought from many crafting sellers.
Someone suggested just replacing your armor instead of repairs...not feasible for special non-crafted armor. I'm still too low in Blacksmithing to make decent armor...and crafting is expensive too.

The repair costs are ... amazing. I haven't yet been able to justify repairing to myself. What exactly causes all of the damage? Is it just getting hit in combat? Someone mentioned falling / landing. I checked after dying and it didn't seem to have a large effect, somehow just regular wear and tear is destroying these things very quickly even when you do not die.

It would be a lot nicer to have armor damage come from just death.

And, separate question on this, am I correct in seeing the damage effect both the armor rating as well as enchantment effects?

Yes they damage both. It's absolutely *** nuts. I'm veteran rank 4 now. I am unable to do many quests as a mage because I refuse to repair my gear for OP quest bosses. I mean I could, but 5 fails costs all the gold I'll make in 6 hours.

Absolute, what the ***, to degradation costs. It's only gotten worse as I've leveled.

Don't repair everything all the time. Sometimes replacing your gear rather than repairing can save you quite some gold. I upgrade my gear every 3-4 levels. I have quite a few skill points spent in crafting to make this even easier.

I stopped repairing my gear and the difference in expenses is noticeable. I only repair if I mess up too often and died so many times my gear is all messed up.

I think it's good there is such penalties in place. Dying should be meaningful and repairs is one of the ways to implement it. It also increases the value of new gear which is good for crafters and trading in general.

I find that repairing only what I am wearing is a lot cheaper than hitting the repair all, since that also repairs everything in your inventory. Usually saves me a few hundred gold a repair.

Just to throw it out there, if they can find more of an optimal cost for repairs they will probably create a more effective gold sink, since more people would spend the money on it. This is maybe only an issue during leveling, where there is a real option to ignore the damage and just replace every two levels. Maybe just at lower levels relatively, don't know.

It's not just deaths--if it was then that would be pretty reasonable for sure. Seems to be just from combat in general, having trouble figuring out exactly what generates armor decay and by how much, and if it is maybe bugged. Knowing more may take away the annoyance over it (e.g. don't get hit by power attacks or something specific).

I'm maxed crafting and wearing a half legendary/half epic gear I won't be replacing until Vet 8 probably.
