Want to play melee, but seems magicia builds are the only viable ones for someone needing learn.

Darkshadow1911
Hello, title says alot. I have played alillte, and it was before necrom and I think even before the one before that. I have a lvl 24 sorc. So I'm wanting to start from 1 and I want to see the game. Mainly the story. But, I do want to be useful in the new game stuff when I get there.

Any suggestions?

It's easier to get decent damage out of a magic based toon in ESO. But, since hybridization, there is a disappointing degree of overlap between mag and stam toons.

In the end, it comes down to playing what you find fun to play. Overland and the main story quests do not require even close to an optimized toon, so just play what is fun for you. The way ESO works it's very easy to swap a toon from mag to stam and vice versa, so just keep playing and get your toon to CP160 at least, then consider looking at some pre-made builds online.

Also, there are a lot of builds out there you can look up, but with one toon at only level 24 you have a ton of questing to do just to get skyshards and lore books and get your toon set up.

Sorc is strong as mag or stam either way, so just play and get your main leveled to CP160 and go from there. It will be faster with training traits on your gear and using XP scrolls or pots.

The thing is that melee is not only stamina. MagDK is 2nd best DPS for PvE and it's melee. Really, everyone "should" be melee. That said, that level of requiring meta would probably be far away from where you are now and the meta may shift by then. Just play the class you want on the spec (mag or stam) you want, most of them are viable enough you'll be good to go.

I'm sure that when you get to a high level (43 maybe) you get free respec scrolls on levelling up, so you can try one out and if you.don't like them you can respec (change skill morphs and attribute scores). They don't have to be used straight away. You can keep them until you are a high CP level if you want to try your setup for longer. You can respec in major towns too.

2 handed weapon skill line has good survival skills too that give a shield, and zoom to attack from afar etc

Question since we are talking about classes, tell me alittle bit about necro, please, I know I can watch movies but I want to hear different options. I have always wanted to play one (i love the lore idea) but I am scared because of the town thing. So, info, suggestions, Ideas?

I am finally about to sit down and play tonight, making a Dragonknight for lvl 1 and I am not going to rush, alot to learn. What weapon do I want to focus on? 2h, 2x 1h, SandS? I am going to do mostly pve without alot of dungeons at first. Also, any good guides on what skills to take when as I level the armor (speaking of armor do I want heavy or med?) skills and weapon and even classes skill morphs?

    Thank you

The only time that the town thing would come into play is if you're trying to duel in a town. Necro's not currently doing very well in the PvE or PvP scene unfortunately. For a DPS, the main thing is using blastbones every 3 seconds.

A DPS Dragonknight's main skill is Molten Whip, which is a class skill that is melee. Because of this, daggers are best suited for frontbar weapons since they are also melee and have some good passives. Backbar can be a 2h or an inferno staff depending on what you need for sustain. Medium armor.
If you decide to make a tank, that's when you use heavy armor and a sword and shield. Dragonknights can make fantastic tanks as well, but one cannot really be a DPS and a tank at the same time.
You can take points out of skills at any time by going to a major city and spending some gold at a shrine (and by some I mean it is super inexpensive, especially if you don't have a lot of skill points) or you can respec completely by going to an armory station and loading a blank slot, so don't stress about wasting skill points. Basically, level all 3 of your class skill lines to 50 as well as daggers, medium armor, 2h, and destruction staff.

Arcanist is ranged no matter what because of the beam. Stamina is the preferred spec for it but physically you look like you're doing spells. You can (and should) play in melee range though and they also use daggers for frontbar.

Melee range has increased over the last year, so you can run a "melee" build like a Stamina Arcanist with daggers on the front bar. Even though the primary skills like Beam and Flail are ranged, you need to light attack enough to generate ultimate, but be far enough away that the target can not interrupt your beam.

Even if you were to go full "melee" build and run a DW/2H stamblade, the melee range has increased enough that some might consider it "close ranged" from ESO in years past

As for changing classes, you can create a new class any time. Once you get over the Level 50 threshold, all alternates immediately level up to the CP level of your highest character. So if you levelled your current sorcerer up to CP 160, everything you create after that would hit CP 160 once they hit Level 50. There is no need to delete and start over.

This just isnt right. Mag sorc is much unloved at the moment. Sorcs use melee way more than magic as a result. This won't matter much getting to 50/160.... but it's still just not correct.

Hands off of Necromancer! Its a demanding and unfun class, that needs a lot of proficiency to enjoy!

Take Templar! Easily the easiest. 😉
If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

Magicka is more PvE based and Stam is PvP, mostly.

The best thing they could do would be to introduce a new resource like Power.

It would be what melee DD use. then they would have stam to dodge and block etc like magicka do. Then you could balance out trial groups and have a mix of both.
