No new Ancesteral Motifs?

I am wondering if we can expect any more Ancesteral Motifs in the future. I love seeing the updated designs, and I like hunting for them. As far as I know, no new styles have been released in Necrom. I hope that this will not set a new trend. While I am grateful for all the recently added furnishings to the scrying system, I hope the developers don't forget about the awesome ancestor motifs.

Blessed inheritor is kinda like Dark Elf.

and Y'ffre's Fallen Wood looks similar to Wood Elf heavy so maybe we'll get more bosmeri event styles that are similar to the base game motif.

remastered versions of the base game motifs are nice, but with how hard it is to find the necessary treasure maps it takes super long to find.

i hope any future ancestral motifs are like House Hexos(ancestral imperial) since that's from a daily quest

Given the super rare drop rate of treasure maps and the even lower drop rate of the lead from treasure maps, they might as well be gone for good. Even with Deadlands event the drop rate of Ancient Daedra was minuscule.

They really just need to update the base game motifs to be on par with the current motif releases. Ancestral motifs have their place in the current format and every race should have one released at some point. With their base game motifs of all tiers updated to reflect the greater graphical fidelity of 2023/2024 tech. So many motifs are increasingly unusable due to how lower quality they are relative to newer releases, which are still sparse so there is no excuse really.

Can we just... not have the same drop method though?

I finally grinded (ground?) out the rest of those, and that was such a miserable experience that it made me want to toss this whole game out the window, and I'm so over Antiquities at this point to boot.

I finished Ancestral Reach a year or two ago when Skyrim/Reach maps were not too expensive. I didn't take notes on how many maps it took, but the last leas was about the 28th or so lead I got. Makes sense since there's no curation so of course I got duplicates before the others came up. Those also had 8 map sources.

The other three have fewer map sources (6 each for High Isle and Blackwood, and only 2 for Deadlands), but again I could target those maps at traders when the respective events happened. But still that much money on guild traders to buy nearly every map on the server (and I did...) was not fun for a chance at the lead. Especially since my last lead I dug up - lead, not map since not every map had a lead - was like the 40-45th or so for Deadlands and High Isle, and number 57 for Blackwood.

I am excited for more motifs (especially if Ancestral Redguard looks more like OG Redguard instead of the current one), but please either give curation on the leads, or give a drop chance from standard chests, or something to help out with this.

    Please no.

Every time they've 'updated' things to have 'better graphics,' that ended up making it look worse. Compare Redguard light now to the other racial styles - Redguard does look better graphically than the others because it was one of the ones that was remade... and it looks awful compared to what the original one looked like. There's also the fact that there are different channels (compare the dye channels in Hexos cuirass to Imperial cuirass 4 and you'll see that you can't dye the trim on the new version), and just general changes graphically have been not well received (the Templar shovel that no longer matches the rest of the plar's light spear kit, anyone?)

Adding the Ancestral motifs was a great way to give updated motifs without removing the old ones. It just needs to not be the most miserable experience in the game to get them.

Hidden behind two of the small zones Treasure maps with less than 1:50 drop chance?
No thanks. Ancient Daedric is the clear example how NOT to introduce the new motifs.

The problem is the sale of treasure maps. Have a look at High Isle ones with people asking north of 100,000 gold each.

To get a Ancestral Breton piece you need 1 in 5 minimum if not 1 in 8. So you looking to spend 1 million gold on treasure maps that will give you an Ancestral Breton piece which you might have, which means selling it for less than the treasure maps needed is a net loss.

Same applies to treasure maps for the Deadlands.

I will agree is a broken economy.

The sale is not the problem, the incredible rarity and the double RNG are the problems. Both are the reasons why the maps are so expensive.

That's going to be a hard pass for me. Hunting down all of the leads for the codex for previous Ancestral motifs (looking at your Daedric) were an absolute nightmare that I have zero interest in repeating.

I’ve never seen a community so against improving outdated old textures. Some of the original armors/outfits from release are hideously outdated. It would be great if they would update to look like more modern types released in the last couple of years.

That's because historically, this game has never "improved outdated textures" without changing the feel of the thing. There's a difference between upscaling the textures to 4K and completely changing the old thing and gaslighting everyone into the idea that nothing changed.

They "improved" the spear used for Templar jabs by giving it a new model (despite said model being a vampiric staff that was not designed for stabbing). They "improved" the Redguard light armor by changing the model to make it less skimpy and now it looks like modern t-shirts despite the older version not being offensive in any way.
About the only "improvement" they did that worked (imo) was removing the chest window from Orcish heavy armor since that one actually didn't make sense logically.

And doesn't everyone on this forum constantly harp on "we should have the option for [insert thing here]!" What's wrong with giving the option for new things in addition to the old?

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic, as it's crafting related.

    Thank you for your understanding

The Ancestral Motifs were probably originally created for NPC use over player availability--the developers seem to prefer using newer motifs and costumes in newer content when possible, since older models clash with the newer meshes and textures for the new location's environment. Ancestral Nord for Greymoor, Ancestral Breton for the returning Ravenwatch, House Hexos for Blackwood.

Ancestral Dunmer wasn't really necessary because there are a lot of existing Dunmer motifs and costumes. A generic Dunmer motif is also a bit redundant now--three-fifths of the Great Houses and the Temple are adequately covered between the Hlaalu, Redoran, Telvanni, Buoyant Armiger, Morag Tong, Doctrine Ordinator, Militant Ordinator, and Dead Keeper motifs, plus several costumes (and there's even some unplayable variations, such as the floor-length version of the Telvanni Wizard-Lord Robe costume). And Blessed Inheritor takes some design decisions from the base game Dunmer motif, so that'd do in a pinch without an entire new motif.

We have Ancestral motifs for High Elves, Nords, Bretons, Orcs, and Imperials, plus Akaviri, Daedric, and Barbaric (renamed Ancestral Reach), so we're missing Dark Elf, Wood Elf, Redguard, Khajiit, and Argonian, and Ancient Elf and Primal. Dunmer have a lot of motifs already; Khajiit have Anequina and Pellitine, and Argonians have Elder Argonian. I expect that the next new Ancestral Motif would be Wood Elf or Redguard style; Bosmer only really have Stags of Z'en otherwise and Yokudan and Ra Gada are showing their age.

people are against replacing old motifs with new outfit styles, it's not improving.

the 9 base game racial motifs all have four tiers of the armour and weapons.

the ancestral motifs so far have not had that and only use tier 4 or a bit different.
and a lot of people love some of the lower tiers more than the 4th.

i love the wood elf light tier 1 and medium tier 1&2 chests more than the others as they don't cover the whole torso nor have tassets and loincloths.

also zos changed the Redguard motif really long ago, which most people dont like.

Their existence hurting people so much that they want to deny other's access to it unless sourced from easily farmable spot? Kinda excessive tbh, some stuff is okay having a bit of rarity for the market and attachment value.

OP here, I just want to quickly say that I started this discussion about the fact thatI was dissapointed about no more Ancestral Motifs being made/released, not about the way we obtain them. That's a complete different topic. I should have worded that more clearly.

I'm all for new styles, but the sourcing is the crux of the issue. The solution could be as simple as curating the lead drops and then everyone would be on board, but when you have to dig up 100+ maps just to get the last Codex entry and final motif chapter, that is incredibly off-putting. ZOS has some great ideas and then completely stumbles most of the the time when it comes to implementation.

Yes, curated leads form the treasure maps would be a big help while still keeping the motif pages from being too common.

This crowd is completely jaded by years of incredibly bad implementation. We know that if ZOS adds more styles, it's going to come with a soul crushing grind.
