So heavy attacks with a lightning staff aren't direct damage? They are damage over time? While both ice and inferno HA are direct damage?

If true it just doesn't seem fair since splash damage got nerfed they really don't hit very many targets and for time they take less than inferno heavy attacks. So why is it not direct damage?

Lightning HA consists of the channel (DoT, 2 ticks) and the final tick, which is direct dmg.

Can't see anything unfair in this tbh.

fire staff currently applies a dot after the heavy attack hits so it does both too

ice heavy is probably the weakest in terms of dmg, but it gives you a dmg shield which is nice for survivability

As it turns out they are all the same as in they all do some amount of direct damage so you are right there is nothing unfair. I had read that the Lightening staff didn't and I just wanted to know if it was true. Thanks for answering.
